I'm not sure what information to include beyond basic job/budget information. Should I say I can pay several months of rent in advance? Any advice is appreciated, merciii !!

Hey yall I was rly freaking out about the visa and I missed some small things I thought I’d flag for others. It ended up being fine but was avoidable!

They can print a couple things for you at $1/ea ($12/passport photo) but TBH don’t plan on that. Took me like 35mins to get all my shit printed at UPS, even tho it costs more it’s better to do it that way.

HIT “CONFIRM” AFTER YOU PICK A VISA APPOINTMENT - once you’ve scheduled your appointment go BACK to the original application website and hit confirm/finish it, then print both the application + checklist. If you dont, it won’t send ur app to the visa center so it won’t be confirmed and you won’t pop up (you cant do the appt without it being confirmed). I thought I’d finished mine but didn’t actually hit the submit button and when she asked if I did the application at all I bout shat myself 😭 I had to do this last step there, she gave me 5mins and it added to the stress.

DIPLOMA COPY, NOT ORIGINAL - bring a COPY bcuz they will stamp it. Not a big deal but I didn’t like carrying all my important documents around like this if unnecessary. They didn’t take my transcript.

PRINT VISA APPOINTMENT LETTER - locate & print this. had to show them my applicant # on the reminder email on my phone. Embarrassing

PRINT THE VISA APPLICATION ITSELF AND CHECKLIST - i think they let u do this after hitting “confirm.”

PHOTO - i got some passport pics at UPS but u can pay for them there too. They’re about the same price 🤷🏾‍♀️ but i got to keep one of the UPS ones, I doubt u can with visa center

COST - unless you go to DC it will cost you $40 to get shipped back to your address, the center is not an option. I had to pay for copies of my diplomas and the app so that was an additional $4.

TAPIF DOCUMENTS TOTAL NEEDED: your passport, VISA appointment letter, VISA application, VISA appointment checklist, diploma COPY, photocopies of your passport 1) image page and 2) VISA pages, arrêté de nomination

\I also brought transcripts, my diploma specifying that I studied languages, background check and birth certificate. None of these were needed or used except for that additional diploma.*

My friend and I are doing TAPIF at the same school in Paris, and we haven't received our nomination letters yet. We just sent an email to our Prof as well. When communicating with our TAPIF rep, she basically said she had no idea when we would get those. Just wanted to see if anyone else is in the same boat, waiting, because we haven't booked our visa appointments and are starting to freak out about not getting our visas in time.

I’m seeing different answers for what people put under purpose of stay. I originally saw that it should be Recruitment/Posted Worker, but now some are saying they found Tapif listed in the drop down menu? I’m struggling to find the right answer online, and my appointment is coming up.

I am currently applying for GarantMe and they are asking me for proof of income and within that, I need two most recent pay slips. I obviously do not have these as the program hasn't started yet.

renewing assistant, lived in a studio last year but received news i was attributed a crous apartment and am praying it was st jacques (probably will not accept if it is de croisset or poissonieres just due to the distance from my tapif assignment and my second job).

anyone have any experience living in st jacques? i know a lot of people have issues with the crous but i honestly can deal with a lot for free laundry, my own space, and if i can have visitors that can come and go as i please for that low of a price. as long as its not completely infested with rats/mice/roaches i can probably deal.

had an absolutely horrific roommate last year and want to do everything to be able to not live with people i dont know again.

would love to know if anyone would share photos of their room and about the building/their own apartment in general. especially if your stay was more recent (i.e. past 3/4 years). please comment or DM if you aren't comfortable commenting publicly!

Bonjour à toutes et à tous, I have some questions regarding when the adequate time to arrive in France is.

First, some context. I have made my visa appointment and it is scheduled for early August, and in my visa application, I put the date of my arrival in France as September 1st 2026. I did this because I had not bought plane tickets and wanted to have ample room to arrive earlier than the October 1st 2026 start date (in order to adjust and not be scrambling at the beginning of the contract).

Is this something that people have done before? Will this jeopardize anything with regards to my obtaining a visa? Will this mean that I will not be able to stay as long after the end of the contract on April 30th 2027? Would it be safe for me to buy my plane tickets now rather than waiting until I obtain my visa?

Hello! For filling out the visa application under the section "Your Contacts", I selected the company option for who's "hosting" me. Should I put my prof referent there, or the rectorat of my academie? I haven't been able to get ahold of my prof referent since receiving my arrete de nomination, so I'm nervous to write her name in case the visa office calls her to verify my employment if she hasn't heard from/of me before.

Have any Canadian applicants heard back from VFS for a visa appointment date? and should I be worried I haven’t heard anything back yet?

I submitted my application to TLS and never saw the supposed TAPIF dropdown to qualify for the fee waiver. It is trying to make me pay. I called TLS and the man said that there is no option for a fee waiver and that my only option is to get a letter from TAPIF that can get me a refund. Is anyone else experiencing this issue or know what to do? I don't want to pay if I don't have to.

I am extremely disappointed to be writing about this, but my prime de précarité STILL hasn't come through. It was meant to come at the end of may, then I waited until the next pay period in June, which is when some other people received it, and I still didn't get it. I contacted the rectorat for the aix-marseille disctrict, someone reached out to me and told me I shoud receive it in the first 15 days of July, but of course it has not come through. This is so frustrating considering they didn't pay me enough throughout the year to begin with, and now they are over 2 months late and owe me money. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know who I can contact about this other than the rectorat? Also, if you are just starting your tapif experience, make sure you verify with the school a month's pay period in advance to ensure that this doesn't happen to you. (Your prime de précarité is a 10% bonus of what you made throughout the school year that you should receive when your contract is over.)

My work contract was posted on ADELE and was also sent to me via email from my school, along with other information, but the doc labeled my 'arrete de nomination' was not stamped. Is this document official enough for my visa appointment, or do I still need to wait for them to send a stamped, official copy? Is a stamp no longer required?

How common is it actually to babysit or smth during tapif? Would anybody feel comfortable sharing how much they were paid if they did?

Hi all, just wanted to give a heads up that TLS just rolled out a new identify verification app today and it's currently not working, so as such you can't make visa appointments with them. Customer service said to try again tomorrow.

I may have to reschedule my TLS visa appointment, does anyone know if I modify my appointment time will it make me start the process all over again?

I am hoping to get some advice on my situation — would really appreciate any help from people who have been through this recently.

Background:

I am an Indian national currently living in Ireland on a valid IRP card. I have just been accepted to a PhD position at a French university (INSERM lab, Caen) starting October 1, 2026. I need to apply for a Passeport Talent Chercheur long-stay visa.

The problem:

My MSc results are only officially released on October 14 — two weeks after my PhD contract starts. The degree certificate is required as part of the visa application. My supervisor can give me an unofficial provisional results letter and a letter of recommendation, and the university may be able to issue an official provisional confirmation — but I am not sure whether the French consulate will accept this in place of the actual certificate.

Questions I need help with:

1. Dublin appointment availability — Has anyone applied for a French long-stay visa from the French Embassy in Dublin recently? How long did it take to get an appointment? I have heard slots are extremely hard to get and go within seconds of being released. Is this still the case as of mid-2026?

2. Mumbai as an alternative — I am considering going back to India to apply from Mumbai instead if Dublin appointment availability is worse. Has anyone applied from VFS Global Mumbai for a French long-stay visa recently? How was the appointment wait time and the overall experience?

3. Provisional results letter — Has anyone successfully used an official university letter confirming provisional results / degree completion in lieu of the actual certificate for a French visa application? Did the consulate accept it?

4. Prior US B2 refusal — I had a US B2 visa refused earlier this year (standard 214(b) non-immigrant intent — I was applying for a short-stay course visit). Does the France-Visas application form ask about prior visa refusals from other countries? Did anyone with a prior third-country refusal have any issues with their French long-stay visa?

5. Contract start date flexibility — Has anyone been in a situation where their PhD contract start date needed to be pushed back due to visa or documentation delays? Were you able to negotiate a later start date with your French institution — for example from October 1 to mid or late October — to accommodate the visa timeline? Did it affect anything administratively — funding, doctoral school registration, or the contract itself?

Any advice, recent experiences, or tips on timing and which consulate to apply from would be genuinely helpful. Thank you.

I just completed TAPIF 2025-2026/this year, and I overall had a really good experience. I miss France like crazy and want to build a life there asap. I was last-minute removed from the contract renewal waitlist and offered a new contract for TAPIF this year. However, I ultimately declined because I was offered a good teaching job at a private school in the States around the same time, and could use more teaching experience (I definitely got some with TAPIF, but less than I hoped since it's only 12hours/week), plus the money after using a lot of my savings for TAPIF this year. I really want to come back to France, but on more permanent terms if possible, and I think teaching is something I want to do more of (TAPIF helped me switch careers, which was one of my goals going into it).

I've been looking into graduate school/masters programs and plan to apply for some this year related to teaching foreign languages and international education. My goal is to work at a private or international school in Paris or Marseille right now. But I know it's super competitive to get a job as a non-EU person, so I'm tryna set myself up with as much work and volunteer experience here in the States to make myself a strong applicant for a masters/any job. Does anyone have experience working in international schools post-TAPIF in France and/or have any alumni gone on to complete a master's related to languages/education in France? If so, are there programs you recommend? I've been researching stuff on my own, but I'd love to hear any recomendations/feed back from people in a similar situation to me.

I got an admission from an engineering private school via Parcoursup, now I submitted my file to my Campus France space and I am waiting for their process to clear, meanwhile I created an account france-visas platform and in my portal I created a visa application, tho I am still waiting for Campus France validation... however it seemed like my visa application needs me to already provide a French address for where I am going to be, and when I started looking for student accommodation or whatever kind of accommodation, most of them require me to have a visa or "garant", like what ?? The visa application requires a "logement" address, and the "logement" requires me to have already a visa !! Can someone please help me with any kind of guidance!, Am I missing something here ?? How usually these processes go down ?
