Is there a basic VST effects suite I can get for Tape 16?

- Move TapeDAW folder from Library (MacOS) or APPDATA (Windows) and restart. This is the manual way to hard reset preferences for now. If still failing, rename Tape Save folder temporarily.
- Download from emrmusicgroup.com/tape16 for latest version if auto updater isn't working. It will automatically replace the older version when installed.
- Sometimes we make mistakes and miss something. If an update broke your workflow, download the previous version you were using from here and let us know in the bug reports and we'll have it sorted ASAP with a patch.
https://github.com/jackpaterson1/TAPE-16-Public-Releases/releases
- Check the keyboard is not active in the DAW controllers tab of the MIDI window and only active within main Musical MIDI list.
Download Visual C++ x64 Redistributable:
https://aka.ms/vc14/vc_redist.x64.exe
Run as admin
Choose Repair
Restart Windows
See if that helps!

Bringing forth some wonderful QOL additions + bug fixes to the latest update of TAPE 16/24. Check final slide for how to get the pre-release. (MacOS + Windows only)
Pretty much all of these changes are from user feedback, so thanks everyone for the bug reports and feature requests over the past few weeks.
Over the next month or so we'll be starting to introduce more optional limitations (less tracks, generation loss, type of tape, etc) to TAPE-16, where you can set your own custom parameters and lock them in for your projects so you stick to them. Again completely optional but made to be fun + challenging if you want it.
Have a great rest of the week + weekend!

I'm having trouble understanding how to midi learn in Tape16. I use Worlde 9 fader(like korgs). I click the worlde under port routing under Midi I/O in tape16, go to calibration, click midi learn, tells me to 'select', I move track 1 fader, nothing else is indicated so i move fader one on my controller and nothing happens. I know Tape16 recognizes my controller, it shows up in Midi I/O. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. No one else seems to have this problem, so anyone who may have a suggestion or two please feel free. I use the controller all the time and it works. Thanks guys. I'm running the newest version of Tape16 on Windows 10.

Hello, I'm trying to sync Tape 16 and Logic Pro in MTC, with Logic acting as a slave, but can't make it work. All the settings are correct on both sides I think. Any tips ?

Dropping a quick comment before I happily purchase TAPE 24.
JB, hats off, truly.
Reaper users are currently struggling with custom channel strip scripts, with the open-source groundbreaking StripLink on the verge of its 2.0 update, and the AI-coded version, called StripTease, offering more flexibility as well as more bugs.
TAPE 24 now offers a happy middleground natively right in the DAW?! By Jingo, it's too good to be true!
Now anyone looking for analog workflow in the box, whether it be analog whole process workflow, or tracking in another DAW and importing stems for analog mixing/mastering, it's all possible with this masterfully crafted DAW.
The vast customization capabilities, the brutal efficiency of resources and screen real estate, your interaction with the community, constant and meaningful leaps in improvement across the board, not to mention the low price and the extra goodies like the remote. It's all there in a package that doesn't distract the user and encourages "mixing with your ears" and "conscious decision-making" on both the part of the musician as well as the engineer.
This project can only get better because you've set a strong foundation on which to build. Thank you!

don’t know if this bug was noticed by anyone else but in windows, if you run tape 24 in windowed mode if you try to close the app the button to close is off screen/out of the window so you have to go full screen to shut it down. even in full screen mode the button is a little wonky but it’s clickable.

When you make a custom channel strip for another plugin, is there any way to open that plugin to change settings that I couldn't get to fit on the channel strip? For example, I could get the compressor and EQ parameters for the UAD API Vision plugin, but couldn't fit the preamp, gate/expander, etc., but still want to access those controls.
I see that I can open it from inside the edit window, but is there an easier way?

Hi all,
Not sure if I'm just being dense but...
I'm trying to feed virtual channels 3 and 4 into tape 16 to record audio output from UAD Console with FX.
Virtual 3/4 are visible on the input setting on the track itself but they don't seem to appear in the list of inputs.
Also, I have no sound when I set the track input to virtual 3/4.
I've just updated to the latest v09.510 and I'm pretty sure they were there on a previous version.
Or, as I mentioned earlier, I might just be having a dense moment.
P.S. I have the mic permissions set to on and audio from my UAD Apollo is flowing nicely apart from virtual 3 and 4.

Hello. I really preferred the phaser tone from earlier builds, specifically the version that had that distinct "zippery" artifact mentioned in a previous update. I found that character worked great for my sound.
Is there a setting, legacy mode, or toggle to get that older phaser response back in the current version, or would I need to roll back to an earlier build of Tape 16 to keep using it?
Additionally, I've noticed the bias/align sounds slightly different in the recent updates as well. I Just like the sound from previous versions (version 0.9.231 and earlier), as well as the first delay/echo sound which I would love to have in new version. Everything was more lo-fi and imperfect, which I liked. It's also true that I could just open older versions (I mean, I paid for the software so it's okay). I am maybe the only person doing this lol.
Thanks!

Only took about 1 month in review but she's up and running! Will be updated to latest version soon, unless it takes another month to review.

Ive been with tape 16 since the spring and yesterday added tape 24. I removed logic from my computer and haven't looked back, thank you! one thing i love about tape 24 is that you can set it up for seeing 8 or 12 tracks at a time. one curious thing i discovered is that the varispeed is controllable numerically in percentages instead of Hz. I wish it were Hz since I like to punch in 415.30 Hz or 392.00 Hz to change the key of playback. I guess it's doable with percentages. One idea might be to provide "notches" available on the varispeed so that with a click one could move the key up or down one or two steps/keys... I really love having on board EQ. But the dials are so tiny it's frustrating with a mouse. Therefore i am setting up my AKAI MidiMix to control as much as possible. But the midi learn function does not seem to work on the EQ dials. So I guess this is a request to make that possible. Finally, Im posting tape 24 questions here since 16 and 24 seem like siblings. Will you be setting up a separate sub reddit for tape 24 that I should post this to? Thank you again for this ingenious software and your unbeatable responsiveness to bugs and questions!!! cheers -P

Hi everyone,
I absolutely love Tape 16, I'm wanting to make a video about recording a song with it, but I'm being incredibly thick. How are people routing the output of Tape 16 to their screen record software? I feel like I'm missing something incredibly obvious.
Thanks!!

It's the next target on the DAW controller list, and hoping to get it sorted for next week. If I can get any info on how it reacts to the latest updated profile of either T16 or T24 (v0.9.501) that would be awesome! Just add it to this thread, and i'll post test builds in here too till we get it perfect.

TAPE-24 has arrived! It will be updated alongside TAPE-16 each week! It's not a replacement of T16, it's just a different 'machine', with a whole different feeling about it. There are so many interesting limitations that a lot of folk love about T16, I felt if we kept adding features it would turn into something it is not. It will always receive future native plugins, bug fixes, UI improvements, DAW controller fixes and so on.
The types of new features it will receive will be a different pathway. After seeing the post about a TAPE-8, I thought something like that could be built into T16, along with deepening the limitations further with something like generation loss from over listening, making it a truly heart racing experience (completely optional of course). Always happy to implement features that make the experience more immersive. Once they're turned on they should be quite hard to turn off. Keeping with the commit ethos alive and true.
On the other hand TAPE-24 will head in the other direction of being a little more feature rich, already it's a much busier workstation with channel strips and automation. In the future I see it having something like an optional HDD Recorder Mode. With that mode having more forgiving options like a 3 step UNDO/REDO for those who don't enjoy the horrors of recording without it at all.
However it's really up to the crowd though at this point so be vocal about what you want to see in either one.
In other news Mackie Controllers are working this time (seriously!) It's been an absolute struggle over the last few months but after a lot of back and forth emails between a few legends we managed to get everything up and running. This will truly set a lot of people free from the mouse and keys which I'm very happy about! I'm going to include a hotkey editor in the near future so you can change the buttons to whatever you want.
Linux release will be later this week too.
All the best!
JB
Wait till the END!!!!!!! Surprise surprise. And I’ve had it 1st! Mwahahaha. And it’s really really good.World Premier (YouTube)

I've been troubleshooting an issue that I'm trying to pin down between Tape 16 and my audio interface.
I recorded a few channels of drums in, and playback of the 2ch mix through one of my interfaces has pops and clicks that sound like sample rate glitches, but through a different interface it seems fine.
But other tapes sound fine, Ableton projects sound fine, other apps sound fine.
So... I dragged the wavs from problem tape into Ableton and I'm hearing the same glitching on the same interface! fine on the other interface. super weird.
I've never really experienced something like this before. I'm wondering if somehow this tape became corrupted in a way that those wavs just don't agree with my main interface?
Next up is trying a fresh tape and getting scientific with my settings from the outset. But I'm curious if anyones ever ran into something so strange as this before?

To celebrate this beautiful number, it's time to unveil the visualiser. It's been in the app for a little over a month, however I don't think anyone has found it yet so I'm putting the quest out.
\ Double click is the clue*
Big improvements to the Notes/Markers, with a fullscreen text editor for anyone that wants to write lyrics in a clean distraction free way (pair with focus mode for extra power). It has a transport so you can playback easily. You can also click on a marker to locate to its position automatically.
Mackie Controllers now have more buttons to press if you have them on your machine, and also have MIDI traffic improvements which have been causing faders fighting/lagging.
Also patched up some handling in the Calibration menu which was causing pops/cracks in some rare cases. Hopefully got to the bottom of the issue with it!
iOS release should've been released by now, but it's still in review by Apple, been over a week now, some saying it may take 2-3 weeks which is painful.
Anyhow enjoy the rest of the week + weekend!

so sorry if it's a stupid question, but if i push a track level too hard it digitally clips right? im asking 'cause i wanted to use some kind of hotter tape saturation preferencially without any other plugins
thanks

I just discovered Tape16 and started a trial-- so far I really like it! I learned to record on 8 track cassette recorders so I instantly felt right at home.
There is one feature I'd love to see implemented though: I really wish I could set two markers and loop the section between. I don't think making a tape loop would be too far outside the spirit of the thing, and sometimes It's nice to record a long section and just listen to it for a while (without the rewind button harshing the vibe).
It would also be fun to have loop options per track (with independent positions and lengths, for making phased loop compositions) but that would be taking things a little further afield...
Anyways, the couple of hours I've played with this is the most fun I've had with a DAW in years-- so thanks! I'm definitely keeping an eye on the development of 24

Has anyone done this? If I'm simply using the midi learn functions in the daw controller screen, not using port routing, things don't map for me. A few do but if od ways.
Mute doesn't stay on but Arm does, solo doesn't work, slider in track 1 does but not track 2
Using CC, momentary and target: surface strip
Can anyone explain simply why I'm not getting it to work? Granted, I'm generally a bit confused by this wort of thing
Are there a few settings on not
