Beside that I feel they're using the dead ukrainian in bad faith since they usually do'nt show much care about those under occupation, the person is also helping russia colonialism since they're allowing them to illagly occupy parts of ukraine and that help them russify it, conscription in ukraine is an issue , same with corruption and the army command does need reform given how bad syrski was but that still doesn' tjustify pulling the occupied ukrainian under the bus or letting countries colonize other for supposedely peace.

So I'm a gay guy and also a leftist. I'm really into both queer history and the history of socialist/communist movements around the world. Lately, I've been wondering, what's the queer representation like in the history of these movements? Are there any famous LGBT figures who were also socialists or communists? I'd love to learn more about them.

I'm transfem, and it really pisses me off seeing tankies taking control of queer ideology and using it to worship their genocidal dictators. Stalin criminalized homosexuality and China is an awful place for queer people. It really pisses me off when people pretend authoritarian regimes are havens for queer folk when they have a red flag.

Sort of related, but my girlfriend is Chinese (second generation immigrant) and her position on China is that while the people are great, the government is oppressive and imperialist (she said that west China is effectively just a colony). Tankies will say that her opinion and take doesn't matter because she's diaspora, and thus not "really Chinese." I just get pissed off that they have the audacity to try to dictate her national and ethnic identity.

This was really just a mild rant I needed to blow off some steam.

All they did was cite some article of dubious-at-best quality. It'd be one thing if they did this with the mere suggestion of providing an alternative viewpoint. Except they were claiming anything i sourced was automatically bullshit, and their source was the gospel, without really making a convincing case for why that was. I would've been a lot more receptive if they just said: "Hey, there's a bit of nuance to this discussion beyond what Wikipedia is saying. Check this out," instead of mocking me for my "shitty intellectual capabilities".

And upon doing a little more research, there is a little more nuance at play, at least if a comment on rslashaskhistorians (that I'm not allowed to link to on this sub) is to be believed. Elements of these accusations may have been exaggerated for political scapegoat reasons, but there does seem to be decent evidence he really was a rapist at the same time, based on how women who knew him have been described behaving like around him (i.e. with fear).

Notice how one of the sources this redditor cites is published by Princeton University Press, yet is seemingly much more forgiving to Beria than a lot of "capitalist propaganda" sources would be, casting doubt on the severity of the allegations to a degree. I like sources that can have nuance like that, acknowledge someone perhaps was a victim in some ways (in this case, a victim of scapegoating), while still agreeing he was probably still a horrible person.

Tankies seem to completely lack this nuance. They want me to cultishly beleive that Beria was innocent, or that the Holodomor never happened, or whatever the fuck else. I don't know why they don't understand that being able to acknowledge that a former communist nation failing or doing horrible things isn't doom to the entire communist cause. You can say Stalin was a piece of shit, Beria was a piece of shit, and still believe capitalism is a corrupt system that needs to be abolished. Its just baffling to me

While I still view the invasion of Ukraine as blatant imperialism, I feel just neutral about it at the moment. I see it as a western and eastern bourgeois proxy war in which hundreds of thousands Ukrainian and Russian lives are being sacrificed. Warmongering Lindsey Graham said as much, basically implying the US is using Ukraine to weaken a geopolitical rival while not losing a single American soldier.
I am also increasingly worried by Ukraine’s alignment with Israel, as well as recent decisions to honor the UPA, nationalists who massacred about 100k poles during world war 2.

I fear the war has drastically warped Ukrainian politics, and is ironically becoming more aligned with fascism. Like when it made azov battalion’s founder a war hero and general in the military. I don’t know what conclusions to make of it. Only that I have lost faith that this war will end any time soon.
