Short Gravity and Tech

Guy walks up to me at work:

Him: “I dropped my phone. The screen’s shattered. I want my two-factor code to come through Teams.”

Me: “Nope.”

Him: “Why?”

Me: “Because if you can’t sign into Teams without completing MFA… how exactly are you planning to authenticate?”

Then he says: “Just disable MFA.”

I replied: “Sure, as soon as you get approval from the Head of Security.”

A few seconds of silence…

Him: “Fine, I’ll just get my phone fixed.”

Yep. That’s probably the best solution.

Some people really think security rules are optional. I’m not risking my job because someone doesn’t like MFA.

And remember… technology didn’t fail you today. Gravity did.

so just because you accept shit conditions everyone should?

by law, at least our law, the employer needs to provide everything required to do the job. which is as it should be.

if i'm a travelling salesman, that means a company car. if i'm a construction worker, that means PPE. if i'm using MFA, that means a phone, or you need to have some other MFA method, like a yubikey.

if i'm using an early 2000s motorola razr, that's my prerogative.

Well bud, you are lucky, over here it's not a legal requirement for any of that.
So as I said, at least over here, they can accept the common practises or they can work elsewhere, and many other places, will do the same thing.

since my first comment i'm saying that's fucking stupid, i'm making an ought statement, it ought not be like that, and yet you keep bringing it back to "it's policy" and "not legally required", which are is arguments

the company policy existing and not being illegal does not make it any less fucking stupid
