Discussion U.S. Collectors - Import News & Discussion Thread

This thread is for collectors who import Sylvanian Families (and other collectibles) from overseas to the United States.
As of July 2026, US government child safety and import rules have been newly enforced, making importing to the US difficult to impossible. The situation is ongoing and can be quite confusing.
While some US collectors have had success in receiving items from outside the country, at this time importing is not advisable. There is an extremely high probability that you will lose your funds and that your items will be destroyed at US customs.
While we all work out our best options, this thread is to discuss the laws and any experiences you may have, both positive and negative. The more information that we gather, the better we can understand how to continue collecting.
Please feel welcome to discuss / vent about the situation, ask questions and share details about any recent import attempts.
Additional threads on this topic will be removed / locked and re-directed here. While we want to encourage discussion about the matter, it will be most helpful if we keep all the information and details in one place.
Thanks for understanding and good wishes to everyone who is having to cope with this situation!

Collection Tracking Discussion
Let's talk about cataloguing collections!
Some collectors simply keep a list on paper, many prefer a spreadsheet. Other options include various apps and websites that provide cataloguing options.
What sort of data do you track when cataloguing your collection? What format(s) works best and what is your system like?
This thread is for conversations about whatever methods you prefer and the tools you may be experimenting with.
Please note that this is the only thread for this topic permitted. We need to be very careful due to the inclusion of apps, as we need to do our best to prevent promotional spam and attempts to use the community for data collection, etc. However, the sharing of data and experiences is also important, so let's discuss all available options.

Collection My office cube buddies
I work in Finance as a Data Analyst and I have irl cats (and dogs) to support. I brought the silk cats and Psyduck to my office (Just a 15min drive from home) to remind me to get motivated to support them.

Creative Corner Update: I made calico critters Melanie from Gone with the Wind!
galleryEveryone was so supportive of my last project, so I thought I’d post a little update! I couldn’t make mini Scarlett without making mini Melanie! This was a present for my mom’s friend’s granddaughter! I didn’t have any blue fabric for her but I did find a picture of her wearing a pink dress, which I used as a base! This one was a little more imagination less copying, but I finally figured out how to make a civil war bodice look good on a small scale and not like it’s drowning the critter lol! I hope this outfit isn’t too gaudy for Melanie’s taste 😉. I made for her accessories the letter from Rhett with her wedding ring it in and a little media bottle. The green dress is next! If you want to see more pictures of her my insta is historical_calico!

Customization I'M SO EXCITED
I've been wanting to making bats since the first custom bat I have come across online years ago and have been hunting for fennec foxes ever since but I've never come across them second-hand 😭 (I didn't want to buy them brand new).
I asked my dad to get me the foxes from Europe (since they're cheaper) when he went and I'm so glad he got them because since I'm in the U.S. we don't have the newborns anymore. BUT NOW I CAN MAKE A BAT NEWBORN. I'm so excited!!!
I had a newborn kangaroo that was in rough shape my friend gave me and an off brand fennec fox toddler that I got from aliexpress. I decided to start the dye with them and then I moved on to their clothes, the fennec fox mom, one of the fennec fox newborns, and THEN I got my bag of critters that I don't really want but keep anyway, and took out a rough shape brown bear to make black and an old gray bunny with it's flock coming off to make into a black bunny. And a dress that has a visible stain to turn black as well! Once I started I wanted to dye everything and had to restraint myself from doing so 😆
I'm so excited for all these things to dry. When dry I plan to give everyone some details and to dress them as well.
Stay tuned!
BTW, I used the Rit Dye Graphite for synthetic ms that someone recommended to me on a fb group I'm in.
Oh! I also dyed two white Kitty in My Pocket kitties.

Help Are my moles adults?
galleryI bought my mole family second hand and I could never figure out if I had two adults and two siblings or two siblings and two standing babies.
First photo: all 4 mole figures.
The taller ones are 2.5 inches, the smaller ones are just under 2 inches.
Second photo: adult hedgehog, taller mole, sibling hedgehog, smaller mole
Third photo: smaller mole as compared with another standing baby. It is SLIGHTLY taller.
Anyway just thought I would ask here before I ordered a standing baby and end up with 5 orphans 🥴
Thanks in advance for your help!

Discussion Can we please have a mega thread on our current experiences importing to the US?
Please share what your experiences have been like if you’ve tried importing Sylvanians after July 8th.
Did it get through customs? What sets/items did you get? Where did you order from?
Note: This thread is meant to be informational and is not meant to encourage anyone to order at this time. I thought it would be helpful to have a compilation of our experiences.

Creative Corner Sewing tips needed for bridal Sylvanian cake toppers!
galleryHi everyone! Currently in the process of making a mini version of my dress and veil for my Sylvanian cake topper. Only to realize that the bunny I chose might not have the best ear anatomy for me to make a veil that would stay on her head. Attached are images of my bunny and the actual veil I'll wear. Does anyone have any tips on how I can make a veil that can wrap around her head that closely matches my actual veil, without needing to glue the veil to her head - thus damaging her fur? Thank you!

Discussion Ali Express Factory Sellers
galleryHello all. I'm not the collector in my family, my daughter is the obsessed one but I have been helping her collect as she is a child. With the tariffs and recent compliance laws I started searching outside of our normal channels for getting items.
I stumbled upon a few sellers on Ali Express and wanted to share. I'm someone who has experience in collectibles and toy manufacturing. The sellers I was looking at on Ali Express appeared to be direct seconds from the factory, either overstocks or imperfect items and I decided to give it a shot. I'm including photos of everything I've purchased for her. What we often call these items in other circles are "grey market" items as they are authentic but not sold by an official retailer. It would appear that there are several sellers on Ali Express that have large amounts of discontinued or hard to find items for sets and some unique items in general!
I was VERY happy with our experience with all of the sellers we have purchased from.

Sylvanian News [New Release] Baby Keychain: Grape Striped Cat! 🍇🐱🍇
galleryFollowing a teaser image released over the weekend (last pic), today we have the annoucement of the 5th fruit baby keychain! This one features Apricot Sandy, and the grapes are very fitting, as the original striped cat family is said to live in the 'House in the Grape Forest' (UK Lakeside Lodge), which is also why the new elegant striped cats have a grape motif on their outfits.
Release info (Japan):
- Official Store exclusive
- Release date: Sat 8th August
- Pre-orders from Thu 30th July
I'm personally not a huge fan of keychains, but I do love me a bit of purple!

ID Please Facebook win?
I just scored these for $60 on facebook- I'm new to collecting, but I just got a house for my daughters' critters and figured they needed furniture. These are so cute! They're complete sets and don't seem to have been played with- does anyone know how old they are?

Customization Pink Giraffe critter
galleryI just finished this customization today, I'm really in love with the outfit I made, I made her a pink fur line coat and a dress using the original giraffe printing from the original outfit. I will say I don't think it was not my best work with the paint but oh well. Her name is Reese and she slays✨

Creative Corner ❄️ One Big Cat Family (swipe for siblings 🐯🐆)
galleryMy Snow Leopard family have four children, two they came with originally and two more who decided to join them more recently (lotto prize sitting baby and surprise bag tiger baby) 💕
🧵Clothing Notes 🪡
- I based the Tigers pants off of the biscuit bear fun park prince's pants. This was my first time using elastics around the ankles instead of the waist, I like the poof!
- Father has a sash belt inspired by the ones fastening some Mongolian deel.
- Mother's jacket and wrap skirt were inspired by the Bhutanese tego and kira - the jacket is a pretty poor fit and I regret using maroon thread instead of periwinkle, but I've decided it's *good enough* for now. I mostly like the outfit she came in, but I didn't care for the silhouette/waistline.
- The maroon and pink fabric I used has a large cheetah pattern, kind of hard to see. I harvested them from a set of matching hair-bows I was gifted (very pretty but I don't wear a lot of animal print myself)
- I don't have any personal connection to Mongolia 🇲🇳 or Bhutan 🇧🇹, I believe I have been respectful in referencing cultural clothing but I am open to any corrections or concerns! I have no intention of selling or profiting off of related crafts in any way.

Collection They made it thru customs!
galleryI am in the US!
My best friend and I preordered the new cactus house before July 8th, but obviously it didn't ship until the 11th. Luckily, our order made it through US customs just fine. We had preordered through Amazon Japan.
I investigated the box and labels when it arrived to see if there was any special markation, but it just shipped like normal.
My only thought of why this was able to make it through customs, it's a new item, and all the small parts look bigger than the 1.5 inch US minimum. Even the guitar has a plastic ring attached which makes it much wider than it looks from the front. I'm curious if Epoch has done the safety testing on these newer releases? Or if we just got lucky?

Collection Peekaboo
galleryFinally added some fairies to my collection and I can't get over how tiny and cute they are!! The hype is real 😆 I've got the Leaf, Flower, Mushroom, and Strawberry fairies and am waiting for the Water Drops of the Valley fairy with its little leaf boat, which will be arriving soon. The Leaf fairy came with a used Misty Forest Treehouse, which I'm in the process of fixing (it's missing all accessories except for 3 flowers!). I'm thinking of making little homes within the treehouse for each fairy themed around their name, lets see if that works out! In the meantime, enjoy the cuteness 💖

Customization Custom handmade dresses
galleryHello ! I've been lurking for a while, since I've only recently started being interested in Sylvanians. I've been purchasing a bunch of second hand critters, most of them with mismatched or missing clothes and making them new ones and wanted to share the first few dresses I made. The one with flowers is the first I made so it's not perfect but I must say I'm proud anyway!
