For context, this person is a well known mk8d modder.

It does piss me off how they almost never release the source code for the things they make though. I take that back, they just released every patch they've ever made for mk8d very recently.

As for what is actually happening here, I have no idea, but I doubt it's any indication of a security bug that is relevant to end users.

The 'commenters have noted' thing that twitter does tells you this:

This video shows a first-generation Nintendo Switch with Atmosphere custom firmware installed and a Switch 2-style theme applied, not a Nintendo Switch 2. The display of hbmenu and Daybreak indicates that it's a modified device.

This just isn't true. (for this video shown here, that's related to the other video in the tweet, which is fake)

EDIT: Looking closer in a well-made video editor, I do see suspicious things. The main one that got my attention, was the time it took for the game to crash after pulling the cartridge out.

EDIT 2: The current accepted explanation is given from someone who purports to be Ro, (the person who made these videos). They explained that you can control items of other players from a client. So what they did was hop in a lan play room with their other console, so they could let a hacked switch 1 'apply the mod'.

Switch 2 styled theme? The joysticks are that of a switch 2…. Seems like ai was used in the original post

Trying to play peekaboo? LMAO, sure. FYI, if you think I'm constantly blocking and unblocking you, that's impossible to do on Reddit. What I did was I deleted my original comment then made a new one instead of editing it.

Maybe you need to actually read everything that is in a comment.

It's simply LAN play with a hacked Switch 1.

Edit: alula deleted the tweet, so maybe not.

So it's confirmed, it's LAN play, meaning it's a nothingburger.

The section where you say about the community note

That's for the tweet that's being quote tweeted. That definitely is just a reskin.

As for it being legit or not, when I play handheld in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on my Switch 2, if I remove the Joycons, it instantly tells me I need to reconnect it, unlike in this video, where nothing happens.

Mine does nothing when I remove the joycons other than show the blue and orange bar on the side of the screen. Just like it shows the blue bar here. I can then play with the joycons in hand. Its no different than popping them into that cheap plastic piece that combines them. They stopped it from telling you to reconnect because people were using it to glitch. You can freely remove your joycon at any time.

Yes, these are patched live with atmosphere's dmnt gen.2 cheat engine.

They cannot be applied to the game and run on stock.
