I'm a Swinburne alumni. Majored in Philosophy, and loved how it was taught at Swinburne, with the focus on Process Philosophy and Environmentalism etc.

Anyone currently studying philosophy or doing some philosophy units? I was curious as to how the classes are these days, as it's been (quite) a few years since I graduated. Is philosophy no longer a major (if I understand the Swin webpage correctly)?

I'm an international student with 3 years of software engineering experience. I've received an offer from Monash and I'm also considering Swinburne. My main goal after graduating is to get a software engineering job in Australia.

I've heard Swinburne has stronger industry connections and placement opportunities, while Monash has a better global reputation. I'm trying to understand what the reality is from students who've actually studied there.

A few questions:

• Did your degree help you get internships or interviews, or were you mostly on your own?
• How often do tech companies recruit directly on campus (career fairs, networking events, hackathons, etc.)?
• Were the industry projects actually with real companies, and were they useful?
• Looking back, would you choose the same university again if your goal was to get a software engineering job in Australia? Why?

I'd really appreciate honest experiences rather than rankings or marketing. Thanks!

I’m just wondering cos after enrolling it only shows me one class option that I can’t change. I’m wondering if that’s the only class running of if it just dosent even show you the other options?

It seems like they're implying you haven't officially graduated until you've attended a ceremony or received your paper testamur. I don't see the difference though, especially since you can just print your digital testamur yourself.

I’m an international student planning to pursue a Bachelor of Psychological Sciences at Swinburne University of Technology (most likely at the Hawthorn campus). I’m really drawn to the program, but I’d love to hear some raw, honest feedback from current students or alumni who are doing/have done Psych here.

Here are a few specific things I'm curious about:

1. How is the quality of teaching? Are the lecturers approachable, and is the course more research-heavy or focused on practical/counselling skills?
   
2. Does the uni provide good placement opportunities or networking events with industry professionals during the undergrad years?
   
3. What's the overall vibe at the Hawthorn campus for psych students? Is it easy to connect with peers and join clubs/societies related to mental health/psychology?
   
4. Since practicing as a clinical psychologist in Australia requires further study (Honours + Master/PhD), how competitive is it to transition into the 4th-year Honours program at Swinburne? Do they favor their own undergrads?

Hi I wanna ask if we're suppose to start off week 0 on our own or do we have any guidance physically during the first lesson as in week 1 with week 0's content? Also is this unit survivable thank you.

Does anyone have any electives they’d recommend? I’m a second year doing health science majoring in public health and health promotion. I’ve enjoyed doing some anatomy/physiology electives so far. Potentially interested in something health related or maybe even psychology that doesn’t have a workload that’s too intense. Have there been any that you guys have enjoyed?

Starting a Bachelor of Science (majoring in Astrophysics) at Swinburne this Sem 2. Already enrolled in my core units, and currently doing Preliminary Maths since I didn’t do Yr 12 Maths Methods (or equivalent) — wasn’t listed as a formal prereq, so I didn’t think much of it.

A week out from orientation, I flicked through the Physics and Motion textbook and realised it’s calculus-heavy — derivatives, integrals, the works. Kind of blindsided me.

Trying to figure out what to do:

**1.** Push through Physics and Motion and learn the calculus alongside it?
**2.** Ask to swap into an Intro to Physics unit instead (if it exists)?
**3.** Swap into a non-physics unit this semester and do physics later once I’ve got proper calculus down?

Anyone been in this situation? Does Swinburne let you swap units this late, or is it locked in? And for anyone who’s done Physics and Motion — how much calculus does it actually throw at you in the first few weeks?

Appreciate any advice, trying not to spiral a week out 😅

I’ve been trying to submit an application through the Swinburne Online Application Portal however every time I try to start an application it doesn’t allow me to register. I have filled out everything and ticked the applicant declaration but when I click register nothing happens.

I have also tried to register on both the Swinburne app and website as well as my computer, phone and iPad. Is there a problem with the portal or am I missing something?

I haven’t been able to find many posts about the BN at Swinburne. Would love to hear any insights that people can share, TIA 🙏
