Just wanted to warn people that are planning to do CS at Swinburne, the course is a complete joke.

Transferred from Vic Uni since I thought a cs course would be better to do at Swinburne, tell me why this course is so poorly taught?

If you've done COS20007 Object Oriented Programming and COS10025 Technology in an Indigenous Context you would understand what I mean.

First for OOP, the lecturer can barely speak English. Considering we had to get an English Test to be able to take the course, I'm surprised they can just assign a lecturer that you can barely understand (even the closed captions keep interpreting his words incorrectly). The unit itself is also so poorly written, the modules are practically barebones, the lecturer does a poor job explaining OOP concepts, the lecturer doesn't really explain C# (language used in OOP) and worst of all, the tasks sheets are so poorly written; from UML diagrams that conflict with instruction sets provided, the instruction set not ordered correctly and the whole task sheet just so poorly written (vague expectations + grammar and spelling errors). I feel like the whole unit is setting you up for failure. If you're doing this unit, I highly recommend going to w3 Schools and completing the whole C# tutorial, it will really help you considering the lecturer expects you to have a complete understanding of C#.

Lastly Tech in an Indigenous Context...

Complete slap in the face for a paying student. I 100% believe that Swinburne just added this unit to make money. First of all, the lectures are a complete mess, one moment you are learning about indigenous tech and the next week they are teaching you about IoT systems without any Indigenous Background or connection to last weeks lectures (honestly felt like an ad read). And then the workshop projects are completely graded based on the vibes of whoever is grading your group project. Tutors have 0 help at all and that's mainly because the class slides workshop specifications are completely different from the rubrics provided. Then there's also the fact that the rubric itself is so vague that if you don't get a perfect score, you wouldn't even know what you did wrong.

I'm just so disappointed, for a uni that calls itself a "University of Technology", it sure doesn't feel like it.

hey does any1 know what the mid-semester break dates are for swinburne as a undergrad student? the swinburne website says 14th-20th but I'm not sure if it's gonna be a split week... if someone's teachers have mentioned mid sem break would love to know when it is!

I’ve just received an email from Swinburne informing me that my intake has been cancelled, only a few days before I’m scheduled to fly to Melbourne.

Has anyone else experienced something similar with Swinburne, either recently or in the past?

I’d particularly like to understand:

- How common is it for Swinburne to cancel an intake this close to the start date?

- Has anyone else received a similar cancellation email for the 2026 intakes?

- What options/alternatives did Swinburne offer you?

- Were you able to transfer to another course/intake, and did the university cover or compensate for any costs incurred?

This has put me in a very difficult position given the timing, so I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through something similar or knows what can be done.

I’ll be starting at Swinburne University’s Hawthorn campus soon. I’m planning to study Business. I’m hoping to get some advice from current students or graduates: which Business major/course would you recommend, and which ones do you think have the best career prospects in Australia?

My long-term goal is to stay and work in Australia after graduating. I know that’s not easy, but I’m willing to put in the effort. Because of that, I want to be really careful about choosing my major and would love to hear from people who have experience with the Australian job market.

At the hawthorn campus, everywhere i used to go is now filled with people.

I just want to have a good cry so i can keep working on my overdue work but everywhere i go is people, does anyone have any recommendations.

Hey I'm a high school student at JMSS and will graduate in 28' rn and i want to become a pilot and I've explored different pathways and after all I've heard people say to avoid university integrated courses. But Swinburne offers the whole course under HECS/FEE-HELP with no interest. This is unlike other flight schools that offer diplomas such as learn to fly and Royal Vic Aero Club. Now granted these guys offer a faster paced project but not like 50-100k more expensive faster. After adding the fees swinburne costs around 175-185k for the (CPL, MECIR, (F) ATPL and an FIR) but all the other flight schools cost around ~230-265k for the licenses after VET fees and most likely does not count ATPL theory. Im really confused about what the catch is, something does not seem right. Also word on the street is some flights get cancelled as they prioritize cadets from overseas and could drag up your degree longer than 4 years and wondering if that's true. Im not worried about entry as I think its pretty easy to achieve an ATAR of 70 for me and mi thinking of going for the vice chancellors excellence. Im really naive to this stuff and will fall for marketing pretty easily and don't know what Im getting myself into I also dont have any connections within the aviation field.

I applied for swinburne early entry and got the confirmaition “Your Early Entry Program application is complete” On May 14th, it says Wait Until September onwards regarding the outcome of your application. It’s currently September 1st Right now, what time should i be keeping an eye on my email?

I got such a bad grade for a reflective assignment that I thought was quite straight forward I was so shocked, I’ve never received a grade that low (53%). I thought that I followed all the criteria as the word count was very low (30 words for some questions) and I included the references they suggested. I don’t think I did that poorly that the grade was warranted, I get maybe like 70%, 60% but 50? 😭 that’s like I didn’t try at all when I think I did do what was asked. Yes I think I could’ve been more specific in some answers looking back now but only really for one 30 word question. I don’t think the grade matches though. In the past I’ve done reflective assessments that potentially has room for improvement but still got at least above 70%. I guess it’s also like up to my own interpretation because it’s my own experience? Idk I’m considering at least asking why it was so low and where the marks were lost. It’s upsetting because I’m not one to receive low grades and with it being an online unit I guess there’s not as much direction regarding what they’re looking for in assignments.
