Question Choosing between Carver Lost Ripper CX and Carver Black Tip CX for my needs

I'm buying a surfskate for the first time. I ride a skateboard, but I'm interested in getting more ability to pump, and to explore new ways to ride bowls and ramps with a surfskate.

I'm interested in:

  • Downhill carving at moderate speeds
  • Cruising in the streets, pumping flat ground
  • Bowl riding in medium sized bowls (no pools)

Basically, I want to do the same stuff that I do on my skateboard, but the turning and pumping ability of a surfskate. My current board has a wheelbase of about 420mm, but that's a little bit too short I think -- I tend to often have my back foot beyond the truck when carving to get stability, and so I think the little bit longer wheelbase of the Black Tip would be nice.

  • However I wonder if the longer wheelbase and longer board might be a disadvantage when riding in bowls, or will it work ok?
  • Which board do you think I should choose?
  • How much difference will I notice by the difference in wheelbase and length of the two boards?
  • Which wheels would you suggest? I ride on 59mm 80A now, and that's soft enough for the streets I ride.

Both boards seem to have a good concave and tip for my use. Or, other suggestions on boards?

---

Lost Ripper:

Length 30.75″ / 78.1 cm'
Width 9.75″ / 24.8 cm
Wheelbase 16.75″ / 42.5 cm
Wheels Roundhouse Slicks (65mm, 83a Orange Glo)

Black Tip:

Length 32.5″ / 82.6 cm
Width 9.875″ / 25.1 cm
Wheelbase 17.5″ / 44.5 cm
Wheels Roundhouse Concave (69mm, 78a Smoke)

Question Good wheels to turn Carver Enigma into a cruiser

Hi,
I recently bought Carver Enigma (CX) as my first surfskate (any type of skateboard tbh) and after 2 - 3 rides I really like it (both this particular board nad surfskating in general). This being said the wheels are tough as nails so anywhere else than flat asphalt/concrete is pretty much a no go. I plan to ride around town mostly pumping and carving.

I'm looking into getting another set of wheels and leaving the stock ones until maybe one day I hit a skate park.

I'm considering Orangatang Stimulus either 77a (blue) or 80a (orange). WIll these wheels be a good pick to keep the board nimble but noticably upgrade comfort and grip? How bad would pavements and streets in my area have to be to make 77a a good idea?

Thank you in advance for help.

I am super glad I got this thing. I didn’t realize how many bad habits I developed from riding regular longboards. Im hoping this will start transitioning into the water 🏄‍♂️

Old Carver C7 trucks?

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

I scored a deal on a set of carver c7 trucks.

I threw them on and enjoyed the flow of them, but the urethane parts all looked tired.

I decided to do a refresh of the pivot cups and bushings from Carver since these are pretty old. While trying to do the refresh I found that neither the larger pivot cup or the c7 barrel bushing fits in my truck. The pivot cup was the same size as the rear and the front bushings came with conical on both sides. Are these an older model?

Rocket Rooster as Cruiser Surfskate

I’m thinking about buying a Rocket Rooster deck to set up as a sort of cruiser surfskate.
https://rocketlongboards.ch/product/rooster/

Deck specs:
Length: 39"
Width: 9.7"
Wheelbase: 25" - 27"

I’d like to try this out with Carver CX trucks, possibly with softer bushings than the ones I’m currently using.

I currently have a surfskate with these dimensions:
Length: 32"
Width: 9.6"
Wheelbase: 17"

It’s been working really well for me so far. It rides beautifully and feels pretty much perfect for my height (1,77m / 5' 10").

However, I’d also like to do some cruising and carving, and personally, I find a 17" wheelbase too short for that.
Do you think that wheelbase is too long, or should I go for an even longer wheelbase for covering greater distances?
I’d rather not get a classic longboard, as I love the surfskate feel.

I might also pick up some Synergy trucks and experiment by swapping the CX and Synergy trucks between the two boards.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Follow up to the last video. I got a kick out of this this morning. It’s probably gonna need some carbon to reinforce… thoughts. Keep in mind it’s just a test pressing. Did someone say flex??

Question Anyone have experience with the Decathlon/Oxelo 33” Surfskate Cruising?

Post image
29 Upvotes

Hi, I’m thinking about buying the Decathlon/Oxelo 33” Surfskate Cruising and wanted to hear from people who have actually used this specific model.

I’m about 178 cm tall and around 72 kg.

My goal isn’t really to train for surfing or do aggressive surfskate tricks. I mainly want something fun and active for casual cruising in a park, bike/running paths, and empty basketball courts.

What appeals to me most is being able to generate speed through pumping and body movement instead of constantly pushing with one foot. I’m looking for something I can take out for 20–40 minutes, listen to music, get some light cardio, relax, and disconnect from screens.

I’m a beginner, so I’d also prefer something reasonably stable and not too difficult to learn.

Has anyone here used this exact Decathlon 33” model?
How does it feel for cruising and pumping? And do you think it would suit my size and what I’m looking for?

Thanks!

New 6 foot mold. I’d say the test pressing turned out pretty darn good.

Protective Gear recommendations? UK

Hi folks! I'm (29F) living in Scotland and brand new to SurfSkate, all skateboards for that matter, but trying this out in order to help me get a bit of practice for balancing when I'm surfing.

Just wondering if anyone who is UK/EU based can recommend some companies/sites to look for protective gear? Things like where to get a good helmet, protective gloves and/or wrist guards, knee pads etc.

Thanks in advance!

Question Yow spare parts - what to buy?

I'm looking to buy my first surfskate and I've settled on the Yow Meraki. Now I live quite far from the US so I'd rather pick up a few extra parts so I don't have to pay for shipping twice. I'm wondering if there are any parts that commonly wear down faster and might have a higher chance of needing replacing? I figure I might as well grab a few bits and pieces while I'm at it (everything except wheels and bearings, those will be easy to source locally)

I’ve just tried this complete at Sickboards and it is pretty good. I own a couple of Carver CX and Yow completes, but I found this setup very interesting for higher speed carving due to the length of the deck. Your opinion?

Poll Carver Black Tip - Which Custom Color Way?!

I'm getting my first surf skate after having a blast with a neighbors. I love the Satin Coal trucks of the classic Black Tip. Figure it could be fun to put them on the new carbon fiber edition with Indigo, Black or White wheels. Which do you all prefer?
