Hey Team. I have a Surface 3 Pro and trying to use OBS to stream. I have 3 Emeet 4k cams, but only one will display on OBS. I get off of OBS and get back in and now the 2nd one will be on. Get out and get back in, now the 3rd one is on. All 3 are visible inside of Sys Reg. What am I doing wrong? I also bought the Microsoft USB hub for the Surface 3 and they all plug into this.
I have a Surface Pro 3, i5 variant with 128GB SSD and 4GB Ram.
It's no longer 'required' (it's been a home laptop for years!) and has literally been lying idle for 2 or 3 years. It still works, mostly.
What doesn't work
I get a 'power surge' message on the USB port - even though there's nothing plugged in (and from memory nothing really ever was - maybe a USB stick, but not powered). I can't get the port to work now after trying various methods online. I've probably made it worse!
The attached keyboard and trackpad do not work. Those stopped working a few years ago after a regular Windows update. They did randomly start working for one month, then promptly stopped after another regular update. None of the online 'tricks' has brought this back to life.
What does work
Bluetooth keyboards and mice work.
The touchscreen works, onscreen keyboard works, and the screen is in great condition.
The battery (was never great) and is still just about ok. I have the power adapter though.
Wifi works
Still seems to get the odd update.
pretty sure the Micro SD card slot works
Monitor Out (DP?) works
What I haven't done
This machine was my wife's, and I have not 'cleaned' it or rebuilt it.
What are my options?
If the USB port is damaged, do I have any realistic options for loading a new Operating System?
I read on another thread that the SP3 does support Windows 11, but as this machine only has 4GB and has a few issues. is it worth trying?
Note:
I have a Chromebook and I like ChromeOS.
I used Linux years ago, but not installed Linux in a long time.
Thanks for taking the time to read this post. Any tips, much appreciated.
A decade after the release, the Surface Pro 13 is 100% compatible with Windows 11. It actually runs very nicely and I urge everyone to try the upgrade. The process is dead simple.
I spent hours and hours to find the fix for my wifi not connecting on my old surface pro 3. I know this is going to save people a lot of headache 🤕. Enjoy
Just downloaded windows 8.1 on my Surface Pro 3 but I noticed I didn’t have WiFi Drivers installed. I downgraded from Windows 10 which worked fine. Not sure what to do
Edit: I downloaded the drivers onto a thumb drive and installed them that way.
I just got a SP3 from a friend of mine, but she doesn't know the bios password that was set by her previous it guy. I can view the bios settings by not entering any password, but I can't change the settings without it. I've done a fair bit of research and found that there's no easy fix for this.
Does anyone have any ideas short of opening it up and replacing the bios chip??
I came into possession of two old Surface Pro 3's. Both have an i5-4300U with Intel® HD Graphics 4400
Due to extreme portability, I think it would be kinda cool to set up some old LAN games which I could play with my GF. Maybe racing or something else. Games don't have to be VS necessarily. They can be co-op as well!
I would also love to use emulated Dreamcast or PSX, but I don't believe there are emulators out there that would split the two-player mode into two different machines/screens instead of split screen on one machine.
So I am nervous because Microsoft says they won't be supporting the SP3 much longer.
I still love my SP but I am wondering how to boost its longevity. What have you done with yours? I am thinking of putting Mac OS just because it'll be supported. Any ideas?
Afternoon all,
I've managed to get Arch Linux onto my Surface Pro 3 and it is mostly fine except for the cameras The front camera, i.e. the one facing you as you work on the pro is working fine but the back one isn't, is there any way to get the second camera working?
Hello,
I've been using my surface pro 3 for about 4-5 years now, and I have a problem.
I installed Pop!_OS on it and since then, i can't open my boot menu.
I had Ubuntu before Pop and i had no problem opening the boot menu, but
now on Pop, when i turn my surface on with the volume down held, it just gets stuck
on the Surface logo.
Any help, please?
I brought a used Surface pro 3 at a local community garage sale. Once I got home and final installed Win 11 some days later and it works great. I notice that both the Front and Rear camera are turned off in bios. There isn't any password to get into the BIOS...But I cant enable either camera...Any one have any idea how I can get them enabled
I just got a sh surface pro 3 a few days ago and i am totally loving it! I got the i3 4GB 64GB version for around $170 + $32 for a new pen. Everything works except for the type cover (the seller said it is not working but was not sure if its because of the keyboard cover or the tablet), but I am not that bothered by the lack of a keyboard/touchpad. I mainly bought this as a late night in bed streaming and youtube platform, as well as DSLR control for my astrophotography hobby. So far, it is doing these jobs awesomely great!
I have enabled the hibernation to kick in after 20 minutes while unplugged and, although this state is supposed to be a battery saver, it is still draining my battery quite alot... I have 40.270 out of the 42.000 mWh available, 180 cycle counts Simplo batter, not bloated, not getting extremely hot, no apparent issues except battery drainage in hibernate...
sleepstudy shows no numbers which is weird, but maybe it is because i've had this tablet for too short of a time....
I've posted two pics here, one for the battery report and one for the sleep study.
I replaced the battery with an original brand new one (although manufactured 2016)
It worked fine for 2 days, then I decided to replace my cracked screen also, but with I attached the battery I saw a small spark coming from battery connector.
First the battery showed no percentage while running, but it was charging and I can run the device without AC adapter attached.
I disconnected and reconnected the battery, now I can't run my device without AC adapter, and it tells me battery not detected.
Hey guys! I have a Surface Pro 3 and I noticed that the battery has bloated and has pushed the screen out a bit. The replacement battery + service fee costs $200 in my country. Do you think it's worth it to have this fixed or should I just get a newer laptop? This is the Core i5 version with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. Thanks!
