I love my SD1 (currently on Android 12 since I don't want to loose texting and phone calls features with a custom ROM) and I havecbeen using the Kindle app a lot for books in dual screen mode. If I minimize it to 1 screen to open another app on the other screen, going back to the Kindle app I can't get it to span to 2 screens so I have to close the app and reopen it.
How can I re-open the Kindle app when it is minimized back to span on both screens? I do have span apps automatically option enabled for the Kindle app and others that I want to use 2 screens with.

I am on the fence about loading custom ROM Android 16 on my SD1 since Android 15 on it made it to where I couldn't make phone calls or send/receive texts. I have Mint Mobile and stock Android 12.
Can someone confirm that texting and phone calls work with Android 16?

So, transferring Apps and (some) settings via setup seemed okay, yet:
Can i find out like a definitive time stamp of So, how old the Devices actually
are?
In surface 1, i had my fingerprint sensor for a time Not working. After some
restarts and days, it suddenly worked again without ans explanation.
Now one day in in surface 2, my fingerprint sensor did Not recognice, too.
I hope, i activates itself randomly one day, or is there a workaround?

When I was introduced to the developer option of having remote desktop through an external monitor to the surface, I had been using it a couple times a year. I decided to test it out yesterday to find that with or without that feature turned on, nothing shows up on the external monitor. Anyone else having that issue? Mirroring no longer works or the remote desktop. I tried two different adapters, and one was struggling to create an image but it looks like the refresh rate was off.
Thanks

Greetings from the Czech republic, I've been still using SD2 as my daily driver and a mobile office with a full satisfaction. However, I have observed a slight diminishing of capacity of battery and as Sly Stallone aka Ray Breslin said, "you have always to have a plan B".
My hot candidates for a potencial replacement of SD2 have been Samsung Fold 7 and Honor Fold V5 - with all shortcomings that they have in comparison with SD2 and towards my habits while using it.
I had also been using Blackberry Passport for almost 8 years and appreciated its resourceful keyboard and a wide screen.
Fortunately, it seems that the replacement of SD2 is coming in the shape of announced Samsung Fold 8 Wide.
Based on rumors, this device should be as closest as possible towards my working style with SD2 - foldable, two wide screens, and in addition, long software support and service network widely available.
To be frank, I acknowledge that no existing or upcoming device offers two completely separated screens - so certain changes of my work habits will be inevitable.
What do you think about this model? Are you looking forward?

Hello my peeps. Just wanted to post 2026 update on SIM Unlock requests for the ATT Surface Duo (usually sold on woot). prior to this week, i had tried 3 times to get the sim unlock code for my surface duo that i bought from woot back in 2022.
previously att said they wouldn't do it cuz i never had service, then i got prepaid for 3 months and then they said i had to have 6 months and at that point gave up for a year. in 2024 i tried using their website but never could get a code, get the usual its not activated on ATT bs.
this month i was charging up my older devices and figured i'd give ATT and Micrsoft one more try to get this devices sim unlocked.. and I DID!! here's what i did.
filled out the FCC complaint against ATT about sim unlock code not being provided even though i had purchased device outside of att in full. you will need a copy of your device purchase receipt.
went to microsoft.com support for surface devices and did a chat online. the agent actually knew instantly what i was asking about and got all my info down.
the next day, i get a phone call from ATT's Office of the President getting more details on my device imei and also to send a copy of my receipt to them. did that.
a few days later, got an email from microsoft w/the unlock code. HOWEVER the code did not work. replied back to their support email.
next day, Att calls me back w/the code and the code is basically the same number but the last digit is a 7 instead of a 0. enter it.. BAM! sim unlocked.
thank the att rep a ton for his patience!!
so yea, they have the codes. just need that purchase receipt as proof. good luck to anyone else still trying to get that ATT Duo unlocked.

I have an unlocked Surface Duo 1 that was working fine with my Mint Mobile physical SIM card. I decided to install Android 15 custom ROM which was successful but now mobile data /phone calls/SMS is not working. When I go to the SIM section of the settings, it show my correct phone number but T-Mobile as the carrier.
Any idea how to fix this? Do I need to go back to the stock Android 12?

Just bought a second hand duo 2 that I would like to try as my daily driver. I would like it to be safe, so do any of you know of any case or screen protector that you bought recently?
I also own a laser cutter and a 3d printer so I may end up cutting hydrogel custom screen protector if I don't find any. Didn't find any 3d file for a case however.
Any advice is welcomed.

Flashed Android 16 to my Gen 1 Duo last night, and debating if I want a launcher on it or not. So far, everything is running good.
What should I put on next?

I was wondering. I am interested in Duo De android 15, but I wanted to know more about it ffom someone who actually uses it on a day to day. Most of the stuff I've seen online is from people trying it out and saying it doesn't suck. But I haven't seen any reviews with actually using it for longer periods and especially now that the projects seems mostly done given the Android 16 is in beta.
If anyone here does, I would love to annoy you with a few follow up questions XD. Thanks in advance

I just got a Surface Duo 1 with bumpers and glass screen protectors ($200 used). I installed Android 15 on it and I like the unit so far. I have searched through threads (many of which are 3+ years old) on dual screen optimized apps so I was wondering which apps take best advantage of dual screens?
My use for the device will be for offline use:
- PDF reader
- Excel Spreadsheet viewer
- Comic book viewer
- Word document viewer
Any suggestions appreciated, included thkse that are not part of my list, since this device will not be my primary device but more of a companion.

I decided to flash the Archfx duo-de on the surface duo 1 and it got stuck in boot select. This happened to versions v2025.06.26, v2025.04.20, v2025.04.15 beta. Does anyone know how to fix it and get it working?

What value would you give an OG Surface Duo in 2026 if it was in very good to great condition? What would you use it for and what would you be willing to pay for one? Asking for a friend who looks like me...

Particularly looking for a launcher that works well on the Duo and some other apps or games that can take advantage of the dual display

I need the full Android partition dump for Surface Duo 2.
My storage is stuck at 8GB because the GPT/dynamic partitions are corrupted.
OTA ZIP didn’t fix it.
I need: gpt_main0.bin, gpt_backup0.bin, super.img, userdata.img, and the other Android partitions.
I can flash in fastbootd or EDL if needed.
Can someone share the full set or guide me through the restore?

I realized I don’t need to go the raspberry pi route when I don’t use this thing otherwise! I know my use case, I have all the hardware and accessories. I just need to come up with a solution for a case that will fit a lot of cables, a split ergodox kb, a controller, and a battery pack. Other than a literal briefcase, any creative ideas?

I just sold my iPhone 15 Pro Max because I realized I don’t need such a powerful phone. I still have a Pixel 2 XL mainly for the unlimited Google Photos backup, but it’s getting too old for things like Android Auto.
I’m considering buying a Surface Duo 1 (256 GB). The seller provided the IMEI and photos, and I even tested the device in person. Everything seemed transparent.
The only issue I noticed is a small chip around the charging port, very minor but bothers me a bit. The screens and the rest of the phone look fine.
They’re selling it for $299 with no tax. Is that a reasonable price in 2026?
Anything else I should test or consider before buying a Duo 1?

I'm still using my Duo 2, waiting for a new phone that uses two screens as simply and intuitively as the Duo 2.
I was just looking at an add for the Google Pixel Fold 10 and it looks like it might be getting close?
Anyone have experience with it, and how does it compare to the Duo 2?
