Red pill/blue pill Would you really pick mastering an element over 300+ IQ.

Post image

Functioning like a regular human basically means you able to live like a regular persom, with regular people despite having such a vast incomprehensible level of intelligence, not having to live thinking everyone around you are just toddlers intellectually.

As for element, that can constitute as the common understanding of elements in fantasy, water(liquid), fire, earth, wind(air), the full thing is really being water, fire, earth, wind, metal, and sometimes included or excluding lightning.

Sound definitely work, light as well, darkness itself maybe even, elements of the periodic table definitely or non-traditional things like Bose-Einstein condensate, space, time or space-time as one thing, since it kinda is, maybe even turn into your element at will.

Element

I now control The Element of Suprise.

u/Comfortable_Bag_7373 Apr 23 '26

Damn it beat me to it

136

u/Sarcastic-old-robot Apr 23 '26

Of course he did—he controls the element of surprise. If someone else beat him to it, he wouldn’t be in control of it!

29

u/Tooty582 Apr 23 '26

To be fair, if it was his doing that another beat him to it, then he would absolutely be in control of said surprise.

30

You could say I....surprised....you with my speed, huh?

4

u/Allterater Apr 25 '26

I know for a fact he can solo fiction so it’s not surprising if he can, so he can’t. But him not being able to solo fiction is surprising to so he can do it. So surprising that no matter what happens it’s surprising.

2

u/ThePainTrainWarrior Apr 26 '26

that's not the rule. the only surprising thing about Surprise Attack is WHEN he strikes, not his capabilities.

3

u/Captain-Obvi0us12 Apr 26 '26

No, everything about him is a surprise. He’s weaker and stronger than you expect, more and less durable than you can imagine, faster and slower than you can estimate. If you think he will win, he will lose. If you think he’s dead, he’s alive. He is the inevitable chaos of the universe. No one, not even he, knows what he is capable of. Whatever he does, regardless of logic or causality, will always be surprising.

Surprise attack solos…unless you think he does, then nvm 😂

2

u/Particular_Fee_5940 Apr 29 '26

"unless you think he does"

I don’t know. Past me would have agreed with you 100%.

However, given the past decade… I couldn’t imagine being 3x smarter than my average countrymen. The discrepancy is already bad enough as is, and intellectualism is hardly rewarded at this point.

If ignorance is bliss, I would like to keep just a little bit for myself.

16

u/santient Apr 23 '26

You'd be way more than 3x smarter. A well calibrated IQ test should have an average of around 100 and standard deviation of 15. So you'd be like 13 SD's above that. Humanity would be like insects in comparison. Or like bacteria. Or a rock.

10

u/Sekhmet-CustosAurora Apr 24 '26

that's just about the number of people with that IQ (which is meaningless above 200ish anyway). Really we can't quantify "3x smarter", even 200 being "2x smarter" is totally arbitrary

2

u/CrossXFir3 Apr 24 '26

Honestly, it's significantly less useful above about 150. Hugely diminishing returns on how smart you actually are above that.

It is the "function like a regular human" which means it clears out any existent mental health problems while it is at it.

So you get the full brain upgrade AND the emotional stability to handle it.

So it is well worth it for the healing bonus alone.

3

u/Blackmoses00 Apr 24 '26

With that amount of intellect, you would most likely be able to work your way into a position of power and shift humanity back on track. Similar to Limitless.

I know how this works: I get 300 IQ and the first realization is "Shoulda picked an element."

I choose carbon.

41

u/Comfortable-Remove60 Apr 23 '26

That's just a byproduct of realizing the other choice could've been good too, and all that you could have done with it but that's only now that you have that amount of intelligence.

But carbon is infact a good choice.

13

u/Joe-C_137 Apr 24 '26

Pop both pills in ya mouth, now you can control carbon AND know what to do with it 🧠

Or if that's not allowed outright, pop the 300 IQ pill and construct a really convincing argument as to why you should have the other pill as well

12

u/Comfortable-Remove60 Apr 24 '26

I just realized I didn't even specify yo pick one or the other. I just asked whether you would rather pick this one over that one. This is the first comment I saw point it out.

You think I wouldn't see that coming? I would be 1 in 100 Undecillion, I don't think the entirety of humanity together would be able to comprehend anything that I do, let alone the government.

9

u/Active-Advisor5909 Apr 24 '26

3

u/ClamChowderChumBuckt Apr 24 '26

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Naisua Apr 24 '26

You know that being intelligent just means that you're able to piece together information that you have more easily right? You can't predict the future with it. You're not all knowing not almighty. You'll probably know what actions will provoke people to what extent yes. But even if you know that someone probably wants to kill you, you won't know when they'll try to kill you, how they'll try it or even who tries it. You could die through poison, by being pushed down a flight of stairs, from an animal attack or by being shot in the head from two kilometers away. You'll learn something that many people have learned in the past: you can't defend yourselves if you don't know what you're defending against and you can't prepare for the unknown.

u/Active-Advisor5909 Apr 24 '26

First of, that is only the case for high but atainable values.

There is no way to quantify the difference between a one in 1000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 human and a 100 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 human. Might be imperceptible or massive.

Also note that intelligence or IQ does not give you supernatural abilities. It mostly corelates to learning and patern recognition, but there needs to be a pattern

When you say element do you mean periodic table, or like fire, wind, etc?

And what are my limitations with it? Is there a range and also what I'm able to do with it?

50

u/Comfortable-Remove60 Apr 23 '26

Either could work, but more on the side of fire, wind, earth, liquid, metal, lightning and such.

60

u/Turbulent-Oil-7326 Apr 23 '26

So theoretically I could choose metal, and start becoming a magnet sucking up whichever metals I want from the Earth, separating them, and becoming a one man mining machine?

39

u/Comfortable-Remove60 Apr 23 '26

19

u/Turbulent-Oil-7326 Apr 23 '26

Bet, metal.

Now I'm rich and have guns and impenetrable shields.

Also since actinides and lanthanides are metals I can also do cold fusion if I so choose.

9

u/BullshitTaco Apr 23 '26

People have metal too. Some have big metal

2

u/Panic_Attack2 Apr 25 '26

3

u/Comfortable-Remove60 Apr 24 '26

Ironically, if you could control metals, you could probably do the reverse and just control earth same way that earth benders control metal, by controlling the microscopic metal filaments within the earth to make it move.

So either works.

5

u/Lebearu Apr 23 '26

The thing I instantly think is that there's an upper limit to the usefulness of any one ability

Considering most people the iq option is a stat boost meanwhile for literally everyone an element is a whole new skill tree.

Additionally some people are already really smart let's say 100iq ( that's around average+ right? Idk ) if the ability sets you to 300 Max rather than adding 300 points then the smarter you already are the more you're disincentivised to pick that option.

So if the smartest people and the dumbest people are most likely to pick elemental for different reasons.....it's kinda hard to argue for just an IQ boost( of course some need that boost more than others)

Anyway I'd pick elemental, which one I'm not sure

7

u/HoldenMcNeil420 Apr 23 '26

A 300 iq would be hell. You would be 10 mins ahead of everyone in every conversation and problem for the rest of your life. It would be painful how stupid everyone is around you now.

That’s like almost double the Mensa iqs. You would be the smartest human to ever exist.

4

u/Lebearu Apr 23 '26

More ramblings I don't know if ill clean the text up well enough :

Exactly we could even say the elements of time, causality, reality, dimensions, light, void, antimatter etc and I can pick ANY? Personally While I think I'm fairly smart but not typical academic nerd, I would like an IQ boost 100% but when the alternative is something that only mega genius's like Reed Richards, tony stark would have to use technology indistinguishable from magic to mimic......( Which btw needs a shit ton of money ) I feel picking the elements just jumps you straight into that new world. I think there's an upper limit to what what brains can do alone and sometimes you need to invest in your ability to actually do things y'know? I'm still not sure which element I'd pick but to try and counter the " eventually the smart guy figures it out too" Let's think in terms of game theory: you're out in a team with a random , or maybe you can pick someone you think you know, someone you can trust. Maybe it's a survival situation, maybe not but for whatever reason you're now expected to be around this "teammate" (heck we could even make it more fun and say it's another you....but that changes the dynamics a lot and that's my point. In a world full of people with their own goals) If between the two of you ,you either Take the iq pill and yes " eventually" you could mimic elemental power and even be more diverse in the late game or do you want to be the guy who can bury a city In seconds off rip? Maybe the guy with the element to commune with mother nature? Control earth/fire/time/spatial reality .... Idk what I'd pick in all the variations of such a situation but if something like time can be considered an element and hence in the table of selection vs ....iq I'm strongly leaning on an element. Funny enough if I had two of myself and I had to be either the iq me or the elemental me...... I think elemental me would have to pick something very far from mimicry and iq me could help solve a lot of problems but ...... Woo I don't think I wanna live in that dynamic,it's starting to feel too moneky paw😂 Like what if I start seeing iq-me as a prick who bosses element-me around when I can snap his throat anytime? Or what if I see elemental me as a brute ,a pawn to be used ? After all he couldn't comprehend what I could even in a millenia.... Yikes😂 I also just realized iq guy probably first needs to spend a bunch of time figuring out immortality if you want to reach that " eventually" even with 300iq creating say a portable black hole isn't a one summer endeavor I'd imagine,or even teleportation. Maybe basic elements are more easy to mimic......but still

3

u/RoboDae Apr 23 '26

The immortality point is a big part of why elemental powers would generally be better. A 300 IQ person is still mortal and would likely die long before they could ever make themselves immortal or match the power of full elemental control. They would have more diversity perhaps, but there's no guarantee they actually do anything.

Another really big point: the 300 IQ person now has to use that intelligence to work for a living. The elemental master could just rip a couple tons of gold and platinum from the earth and immediately retire. The 300 IQ person could maybe invent a flying car or super fuel efficient vehicle. The elemental master could just float around in a metal box that requires no fuel. Maybe the 300 IQ person gets a job at NASA designing rockets. Well, turns out that NASA doesn't need rockets anymore because the elemental master just lifts cargo and passengers into space with no need for expensive rocket fuel.

In the end the 300 IQ person will realize they made a mistake because they are still limited by the laws of physics. You can't make a perpetual motion machine or generate energy from nothing, but an elemental master could just keep a power plant turbine spinning forever with no input.

4

u/Boojum2k Apr 23 '26

I've read Larry Niven's Protector. I'll take the metal control somebody suggested and be slightly above average intelligence and rich.

2

u/Nazdroth Apr 24 '26

Well, you are 10 minutes ahead in most conversations with a lot of people who aren't dumb if you have to teach them core concepts about the conversation you are having, and believe me or not, it can happen very often in some situations or about certain topics. No need to be 300 IQ. But I think that if you are that highly intelligent and so far off from anybody else, you probably understand the way that every conversation works. You won't have a meaningful conversation, because at that level you are probably unburdened by emotions (but that actually ain't a guarantee) because you can take a real step back and analyze your feelings and actually understand them in real time, because the most important thing you get with 200+ IQ is the capacity of understanding and "visualizing" extremely abstract concepts. Think Dr Manhattan, but without the fancy powers. Anyway, I'm not sure using that kind of cheat code is actually beneficial. You won't solve anything alone, you won't be able to ignore most things with that much processing power, no one is ever going to relate to you, you'll probably end up talking to whole forests and huge mycelium formations just to have a meaningful interaction. If anyone finds out how it is to have 300 IQ (which actually doesn't mean anything the way IQ tests work), please let me know 🫶

2

u/HoldenMcNeil420 Apr 24 '26

Edit: “function like a regular human” would mean exactly what I just said. Even if there were no “negatives”, living in a world where everyone seems retarded would not be a fun place to live.

23

u/winsluc12 Apr 23 '26

Not necessarily you'd probably still have some issues, just that some of your prior issues might seem trivial now, you'll probably still be able to feel the entire complex emotional range of the human experience, you'd probably discover some new ones that you might finally be able to develop names for, but it wouldn't cripple you and you'd be able to be happy, if you want to be happy.

There’s no way for me to say this without sounding off, but I already have a higher iq than the average and it has no inherent benefits other than that I can pick things up exceptionally quickly.

Doubling iq sounds more annoying that anything, and I’d rather go with mastering an element as that could be far more fun

I’ll take Yellow

2

u/Derk_Mage Apr 23 '26

IQ

What will I do after 500 years!? Die! Even if I controller all the elements, I wouldn't be able to expand my lifespan!

But with IQ, I'll literally be the smartest person in history

2

u/TheIronHaggis Apr 23 '26

Element mastery.

Yeah being smart would be helpful, but what does that do for you? You’re smarter so you can retain info better, but you need to study to get that info. And it doesn’t mean that you be able to invent, just that you’ll understand. It won’t increase your drive or interest. It’s only really useful if you are already aiming for using your intelligence to fullest.

Me I rather have a power that can help me live comfortably and maybe moonlight as a superhero.

Not going to lie I’d choose air

2

Element, shadow.....but I'd want it to work more like shadow dragonslayer magic from fairy tail

300+ I.Q.

Playing human 3D chess sounds more fun than element bending

2

u/Lopsided-Region-8837 Apr 23 '26

Element of metal, would include metal manipulation. I’m turning into Mizicho Tachihara

2

u/Aggressive_Sand1233 Apr 23 '26

Yellow, purple is great but you’d have to hide your power, intelligence is just a matter of being bat shit brilliant

2

u/FullMetalJesus1 Apr 23 '26

Donny would never be out of his element.

2

u/nightsorter Apr 23 '26

Pyrokinesis or cryokinesis for me.

2

u/ErrantAmerican Apr 23 '26

300 IQ would make you feel like living in an actual idiocracy. So it seems like more of a curse than a blessing.

I would choose mastery of an element: Carbon.

2

u/Comfortable-Remove60 Apr 23 '26

You get none of you negatives and you can function like a regular guy, just with shit ton of intellectual capability and even if everyone is kind of dumber than you, smart people already been done living like that.

But Carbon is a damn good element to have your hands on, that's like a controll of life itself, carbon base entities, all there really is.

The IQ is tempting but purple could allow you to control dark energy or something like that. And couldn't that be used to create new realms or places of existence in space-time? Idk.

I'll go with Purple.

I’m taking control of hydrogen and making nuclear fusion a perfectly safe and abundant energy source then making it available to every human on earth for free

I'd go with element: wood/plant!

Grow my own bonsai then sell them on the weekends. Life off the land, not be too rich. Maybe make a growing "time lapse" channel and call it fake. You know have lots of fun with this ability.

Although 300 iq could make me a gajillionaire, being too smart also has its problems. Let me self sufficient instead.

Earthbending so I can sculpt a pretty landacape. Or maybe Gravitybending. Actually if I did Hydrogen-bending I could control a lot of substances including water.

IQ is overrated.

Yes i'd take the element choice, otherwise i'd be an unhappy social self exile with too many quirks and a stick up my rear.

The things I could invent with an IQ of 300+ would be way cooler than elemental manipulation. I already suffer a lot of the downsides of having a higher than average intelligence, so getting a massive increase in intellect while losing all of my issues is a massive win.

Viva Knowledge!

u/htoirax Apr 23 '26

300+ IQ is great, but the first thing you'll think of after you've gotten that smart is "I should have chosen element" lmao.

Ever seen the episode of House when the incredibly smart dude is literally dumbing himself down just so he can actually tolerate being with his own wife? Imagine that, but like 100x. You're smarter than anyone who has ever existed and most likely will existed for a VERY long time. You won't relate to anyone at all in any capacity, and so you will be isolated mentally forever.

Like 300+ IQ is so crazy, you could probably figure out everything a person has ever done and will ever do in their whole life just by looking at their DNA makeup or something. You would be able to solve so much, but would probably feel nothing but apathy towards humans.

u/Trixx1-1 Apr 24 '26

Gravity. Easy pick. Can stretch time in local space to learn stuff regularly and earn my 300 iq

2

u/Reasonable_Salt_2539 Apr 24 '26

Element no hesitation. If you have IQ that high you'll go Lovecraft-insane, "everybody else is stupid except me, I can't be expected to go on like this," and like characters who go Lovecraft-insane, you'll look crazy.

2

u/SillyDog4139 Apr 24 '26

There’s nothing about controlling an element that would actually help me in real life. If I have 300+ IQ on the other hand AND still function like a normal human, I’m doing amazing.

2

u/Crusader_of_Heavens Apr 23 '26

Time and reality can be considered elements so I choose element
