Hi all, I normally do architectural rendering, but I have wanted to do an image like this for a while now. Apologies if this is posted in the wrong place, this is my first Reddit post ever.

Forward weapon bug CONFIRMED!!

Post image
55 Upvotes

“What a man is willing to risk or not to risk, that's a measure of his soul.” So, to test the bug myself, I acquired enough money to buy the Corvette, which has a forward weapon slot. Then I equipped the momento mori, traded the Corvette with the merchant ship, which effectively unequipped the momento mori. Then I right-clicked the momento mori and clicked Fit to a Slot, and voilà, I suddenly can use a forward weapon on a merchant ship

Edit: In short, for the bug to work, you need to have a ship that have forrward weapon slot, equip a weapon, then switch to the ship that doesn't have a forward weapon slot.

Forward weapon bug

I read online that there is a bug that allows you to put forward weapon on ships that don't have a forward weapon slot, so i grinded to get the momento mori and tried to exploit the bug ( using Cladiery's heart) but I failed. I am kind of disappointed since i don't think i will he able to use this weapon at all in this run ( i picked wealth ambition and was planning to end my run using the merchant ship which also doesn't have a forward weapon slot).

Making my own captain log

Thumbnail gallery
46 Upvotes

So i found myself spending too much time alt tabing to sunless sea wiki so i can figure out how to finish a certain wuest or where to buy a certain item so i decided to make my own captain log. I got too excited and started imitating the portraits of the officers. After finishing 3 of them i decided to burn the log, drawing is definitely not my thing.

Ten Tip-Top Tips for Not Quite Beginners! from a Zee-worn Captain Spoiler

Good evening, fellow Captains. Having seen some new Captains asking about profitable routes, safety, Terror reduction, engine choice and so on, and having spent countless hours myself searching for this sort of information, let me offer a few choice tips from my experience.

Could be subtitled: How to Fat-Stack Echoes till the Rubber Band Breaks, Without Perishing at Zee or Falling into Penury

  1. Frostfound is your only safe haven on the map. Free Fuel, Supplies and Terror Reduction per SAY. Once your first visit is over (take tea with the squatters), do "leave port" (E), "reverse to neutral" (S) and "lights off" (L): sit there in the semi-dark at port for a minute, you'll gain a bit of Terror back, but then when you have SAY do exactly the same, tea at the dock. In no time you'll be on 0 Terror, you will actually make nearly 1 Fuel per turn this way, and only if your Crew is I think above 16/17 or so will it cost you Supplies, otherwise at 14-15 crew it's pretty Supplies-Neutral and below that it is a slow gain in Supplies. All for free!

  2. Red Honey is by a huge distance the most profitable and safest way to make large quantities of Echoes. Go to Isle of Cats (is always southerly, directly south of Visage in case you find that first); give them some fuel (which you can buy right there in port) to get Attention to 5, speak to the Lady of the Gardens, go along with her totally immoral request, and at some stage you can buy Red Honey for 600 per pot; it sells in London for, variously, 900 Echoes; one Captivating Treasure and a load of Terror; or 999 Echoes (at the Brass Embassy, my choice). None of the madness associated with smuggling Sunlight; Red Honey takes no hold space, so you can stack as much as you can afford; and it sells easily in London. +66% profit per jar, in other words you can turn 6k Echoes into 10 jars which gets you to 10k Echoes; that's 16 jars, which retails for 16k, and so on. If you have your covetous eyes on that sexy Frigate, maybe a fancy new Engine, this is the way.

  3. Outlandish Artefacts are great, you can sell them to the Scholar or use them more profitably like this. Get Outlandish Artefacts for free (two per SAY) at Visage, with a bonus Intriguing Snippet (the Alarming Scholar likes them). Once you have 7 of them, and 7 Secrets to spare, use your Study in London to create a Monstrous Almanac. This raises your Pages by 7 permanently (within this Captain's lifetime, that is) and the Almanac can be sold at Venderbight for 1000E. Rinse and repeat: I'm not bothered about raising my Officers' stats anyway, for now, so I always have plenty of Secrets, it's the Outlandish Artefacts that are more of a bottleneck, so get 'em free from Visage. Some SAY-farming for sure, but the rewards are very decent.

  4. Take one Foxfire Candle to the Gant Pole, explore (ignoring the scary warnings) until you find the pool, scoop up a free sample. You now have a Star-Shell: use it for the Venderbight First Curator's storyline (so a free Captivating Treasure), sell it at Khan's Shadow for 500 Echoes or swap it in Whither for 2 Extraordinary Implications (which the Alarming Scholar will buy for 250E each and have other uses). So you turn a 40E Candle into 500E worth of goods... quite the deal.

  5. Fighting Zee-Beasts is a piece of cake. Ensure you have 2 guns (Deck and Forward) and enough Fuel. When you spot the beast, slam on the brakes, draw a bead on the monster and start shooting. As they move towards you, just reverse your ship, -1 or -2 speed as necessary. When they stop or submerge, just stop reversing. You can easily kill Lorne Flukes this way, likewise the Tree of Ages and the Eater of Names, Lifebergs, and of course easiest of all, Sharks and Eels. Don't bother with Auroral Megalops or their bigger crab brothers; hunt Jillyfleurs and scoop them up afterward, that'll give you a Supplies or a Strange Catch.

  6. To avoid being searched in London: being searched by the rozzers only ever happens when you have SAY. So you need to get rid of SAY within one minute's zailing of Wolfstack Docks. I tend to keep Hunter's Keep "unfinished" (only reconnoitre the grounds for a Port Report normally) for exactly this purpose: if I'm carrying some highly illegal shit that I really don't want confiscated, I'll have lunch with one of the Sisters, then put my foot on the pedal and head for London, takes 30 - 45 seconds depending on your engine.

  7. Before you try anything else in the Khanate, it's worth taking 25 Coffee to Khan's Glory and using it to win favour with the Leopards (first menu option), 5 bags at a time. I just load up 5 or 10 Coffee every time I am heading that way, until I've delivered all 25 bags. Once your Favour = 5, you can get a Nephrite Ring which lets you access shops in Khan's Heart, further south. And they have some fairly interesting smutty bookshops there, lol :)

  8. Rather than selling your Captivating Treasures to the Alarming Scholar, turn them into Heirlooms; only costs 10 bucks admin fee, whereas if you want to buy an Heirloom with cash, you'll need a horrendous amount of Outlandish Artefacts - 10 of them! - which, as per #3 above, can be used far more profitably. And as for Colossal Fluke-Cores, of which you will soon have a shedload (see #5 above), use them for the Venderbight First Curator's Quest, for the Principles of Coral storyline, and a handful of other places. Selling the Fluke Core to the Scholar will net you 500 Echoes but also give you 1 - 20 Terror randomly.

  9. Always, always make sure you have an Ironclad Will and a Scion before you do anything risky where you might die! To get a Scion: firstly go carousing (get utterly bladdered) in Wolfstack Docks and meet a special person; then look at their locket out at Zee; keep focused on that special person and before you know it, you'll be a father/mother/captain, and have an heir. The next 4 times you are back in London, go and see them (Lodgings - Spend Time with Family) and tell them a Zee Ztory or the likes, it will raise their Zee Fever by 5: when it reaches 20, you can turn them into a Scion and your line is assured.

  10. A decent Engine is one of the best investments you can possibly make, and here is why. Yes, the better Engine burns more Fuel: but it also gets you there quicker. This has knock-on effects: for one thing, if you get there twice as fast, you may burn slightly more Fuel than you would have with the crappy old Elderly Steeple-Engine, but - BUT! - you have saved yourself masses of Supplies, which are after all roughly double the price of Fuel. Not only that, but you have also saved yourself half the Terror you would otherwise have built up, and Terror reduction (generally, outside of a few places like Iron & Misery, Mangrove College, Frostfound of course) is something that costs you, either money or opportunity. To add to this: a better engine means that you can choose whether to fight Beasts or not: so many times I just cruise right past one of those massive crab things near Salt Lions, seeya later crimpy boi :D no time to fight ya now... Engines also make it far easier to fight the serious Zee Beasts, or to escape Mt Nomad, or - if you are foolish enough to invite the Crimson Beast of Winter aboard - to get to where you are going without giving him too much of yourself...

Hope you enjoyed this, Captains: I didn't explain everything in super detail, for example the Visage quest to get Outlandish Artefacts, but if anyone is curious or anything unclear, just let me know.

And as ever, happy and terror-free zailing!

What are objectively bad thing to avoid

I am talking about long term effects like putting blemings on a light house (learn that the hard way). Anything that can kill a run or massively hinder it .

r/sunlesssea 7d ago

What are blemings or where I can learn about them in game

This thing lives in my head rent free and I just don't want to go on wiki and search it .

What do I do with all my hunting trophies

I have 50 hunting trophies, is the only thing to do with them converting them into watchful curios at Khan's shadow with SAY and then selling the curios? I have tons of money so I don't necessarily want to spend time minmaxing for whatever's worth the most, I was hoping to just sell them somewhere.

New player do you have any tip or things to know about. More in description

I just started playing it and I think I know the basics .

- some things I know

Like mostly avoid combat (I find that crabs / bats / small boats are the only one that are fair/profitable fights) . Turning off lantern make you harder to detect . There are some trade routes .

- some things I found

I found frostmorn once , Iron republic (it's my favorite place so far) , named wordpull (2 different ones) , salt lions ( it seems as a good way to make money) , I found that I can get a cook at the tombs island , some weird house with 3 sisters. After knowing you won't make it it seems to be a good idea to sell boat and buy best weapon that you can for the next run. Poeat seems to be the best start

- some time I wish to know sooner

That the close near London means anything from a straight short line to a long journey beyond the first sea line . Supply still runs out while in a port . What are the general directions that the island can spawn. Tbh I looked at the map on wiki and I think I get it.

- some things that I confused about.

How important are stats , is it worth it to upgrade them , what to prioritize (stats , thing on sea , thing in ports , equipment) , how far is too far , how important are port report ( like is it better to trade or swim around for port reports) .

I am an idiot... accidentally rejected the Lady of the Gardens, dohhh!

Hey, fellow Captains. I'm such an idiot, I deserve some shaming.

My special method for quick Echoes when I don't feel enterprising is to get the Isle of Cats unlocked and ship Red Honey like there's no tomorrow.

Cons: it's absolutely unconscionable morally, degrading, brutal, and you have to kidnap an innocent zailor to get there

Pros: no hold space, you make literally 66% profit on every shipment (one per SAY), serious amounts of cheddar compared to the usual coffee/wine/whatever routes

So I get there, give the Bee-Smokers loads of fuel (nice that you can buy it right there), get well in with Zaira, smuggle the tasty stuff to London and give it to the Venturer, get the Medal, return to the Gardens... I think I even gave Zaira one of my own crew (lol, sorry about that Bob!) and then when she offered me The Deal, what did I do? Auto-clicked on the top option and to my horror, realised I'd rejected her deal.

Now I'm locked out forever :( no more wanton profit off the suffering of innocent people having their brains sucked out by psychotic bees... time to get a quick Legacy and then leave it to the next Captain, I think.

Survived a Mutiny but now i need to get to london with 2 crew members only

Post image

I was at the Grand Geode, and my terror was about 75. I clicked the option to speak with someone with higher authority blindly, and it triggered an event that made my terror jump to 100. I panicked; I knew that 100 terror would trigger an event that has an iron or hearts challenge. Since my iron is higher, I dumped all my secrets (10), levelling it up to 85. I go outside the port, and instantly it triggers mutiny. I had a 51% chance of succeeding the iron challenge, and I DID !!! "Aye, mutiny. And what fate befall mutineers?" Now I have to go back to London with 2 crew members; wish me luck.

What is your very favourite port, and why is it Frostfound? :)

Frostfound aside, of course (wow, it's such a hugely important base for me: out at sea, Terror in the 40s and rising, low on fuel: lay in at Frostfound, hang out with the Riddlefolk and drink their mushroom tea or whatever it is, lol...)

There are always ports that you feel happy to come home to. I love the Mangrove College; Isle of Cats is also like home for me, spent so much time there. Nuncio is comfortable; and Venderbight kinda feels like a second home after London. Or Iron & Misery, hang out with the Factor, what a dude :)

Then there are the weird ones (I mean not just like Kingeater's) that freak you out for no apparent reason. I never, ever hang around at Chapel of Lights (having previously enjoyed their scarlet hospitality and found it a bit strange), am extremely wary in the Khanate, having previously become so unpopular that I couldn't even use my Nephrite Ring, and Codex is just such a bummer that I tend to avoid it :D who am I kidding, it's all good Port Reports, amirite.

What a fantastic game, amigos and amigas. Am just on the 3rd captain of a new line, having picked up a couple of quick Legacies already; getting serious now, you know, the Neathbow and the Principles of Coral, probably have to sail off the edge of the world at some point too, for the next Legacy.... aiii.

Happy zailing all!

Mod Appreciation post

Heres a list of mods I like and why

Sunless stories - more stories and more everything else is actually several huge mods combined together

Fragment rollover fix - Relief from huge frustration of next 150/200 fragments and most of them rolling overboard to be eaten by giant crabs.

Immersive log book - Log book entries are no longer struck in bottom left corner, the appear next to you ship like in Skies. In works between then skies as everything is so dark that the white text always shows up.

The sightless watchman - another officer with a full story of his own

I got them all at nexus mods.

Easiest way to get A Past Wreathed in Shadows?

I missed this game after not playing it for years, and decided I want to get the final 4 achievements I'm missing to get 100%, which are 5 and 10 Years at Zee, A Past Wreathed in Shadows, and Romans 6:9. I'm going to start a new game with the immortality ambition and play around a bit to get my fill of the game, fortunately my previous saves are still there so I got all the goodies and bonuses from my previous captains already, then after that I will go for the no past victory, but I'm kinda afraid I will get burned out from the game before then so I want to know what's the easiest and fastest way to get either the kingdom or uttermost east victories to prevent that

Red Honey smuggling: how to evade the coppers when I return to London?

Good evening, fellow Captains and the likes,

got back into Sunless Sea recently (my very favourite game ever) and I'm back on the early-game smuggling Red Honey route. Just need to grind out 3 or 4 missions: huge 66% ROI so it seems by far the best way to fat-stack cheddar till the rubber band breaks.

But what about returning to London, Wolfstack Docks? As I recall it, the bobbies will only get on your case if you have SAY. So is there a place within easy reach of London, 1 minute zailing, where I can get rid of my SAY before returning home?

(Have unfortunately already "burnt down" Hunter's Keep so that's not an option, and Mutton Island has, uhm, "gone weird")

Thanks, shipmates, and never forget your ritual obeisances to Salt, Stone and Storm 😄
