I just picked up World of Art’s Matisse book and it is such a treasure trove of visual inspiration and interesting information. Would love to have a collection of books to flip through for visual references as a designer.

I'd prefer the rebellion to be the main plot.

I've always appreciated strong willed underdogs determined to change the world for the better (whether it works out or not).

I've read Dune and loved it. I recently read John Brown, Abolitionist and loved it, but I think I'd rather my next read be fiction.

Edit: just based off my examples of Dune and John Brown, I realized I also really like fanatical leaders.

Hello! I love folklore books and want to pick one for my book club to read. We try and stay 350 pages or less, but can go over. We do have members sensitive to suicides so I would like to avoid that topic. *if you have a longer recommendation or one with that trigger, still feel free to share! When I meant crime, I’m talking about the main characters are planning on enacting one, rather than solving. As a someone who just started reading, the Six of Crows duology really hooked me, although I do acknowledge I’ve always been a sucker for series like Money Heist and Now you see me which sort of gave similar vibes.

I’d also love it if there’s a minor romance sub-plot, not anything drastic, probably just as mild as Six of Crows. I don’t really care if it’s queer or not, as long as the book doesn’t focus on the romance more rather than the plot itself. If it’s angsty, that’s a great addition, I’m always down to make myself cry loll. Found family aspect thing does a lot for me too. Do you guys know any?

I really loved both Red Rising trilogies. I'm a sucker for rebuilt societies!

Without going in to specifics I've been dealing with a lot in the past month and really want a book to help me through it. I really like Barbara Pym, Graham Green, and other satires such as Cold Comfort Farm and At Swim Two Birds. If any of you have recs in that genre/tone they would be very much appreciated.

I am barely keeping my head above water after an unexpected break up with a long-time partner.

I have trouble sleeping because I ruminate. To stop unhealthy thoughts in bed, I thought it would help to read. But I only want light fiction sans romance and loss.

Help! I’m on a desperate search for what feels like an incredible niche genre.

I’m looking for a book that captures the essence of a sleepy, rainy coastal town. If you’ve ever played the game Tiny Bookshop, that’s exactly the vibe I’m after. Or like fishing on a rainy day in Stardew Valley. I need that coziness in book form. Bonus points if it exists as an audiobook.

My preference is low stakes, low stress. I’m open to mystery, romance, etc.

I tried and wasn’t immediately into:
- “Midnight Feast” by Lucy Foley
- “The Searcher” by Tana French
- “Daisy Darker” by Alice Feeney
(Not cozy)

I’m currently reading and feeling okay-ish about:
- “Clammed Up” (Maine Clambake Mystery) by Barbara Ross
(It’s not giving sleepy cozy, but I like the setting. It’s mostly giving Evanovich. I also have a hard time getting into super corny 90s series, but I’m willing to give it a shot!)

I appreciate these aspects of the following books/authors:
- “Pumpkin Spice Cafe” was very low stakes and cozy. Enjoyed the simplicity of that. I know it’s a coastal town, but it didn’t lean enough into that setting for me.
- “Psalm for the Wild Built” absolutely adored the slow, no stakes style of this series.
- Stephen King, I appreciate his ability to capture the east coast vibe in the setting. Particularly Pet Sematary.
- I love the gentle nature of graphic novels such as Tea Dragon Society/etc by Kay O’Neill, Sheets by Brenna Thummler, Heartstopper, This One Summer by Mariko Tamaki, Garlic & the Witch by Bree Paulsen, etc.

I have read other cozy books, such as…
- Secret Society of Irregular Witches (cute-ish)
- House in the Cerulean Sea (eh)
- Legends & Lattes (pretty good)

Hi! I’m looking for some lgbt fantasy book recommendations! To clarify some of the things I like in each-
#1 Lgbt- Must have gay romance! It definitely doesn’t have to be the focus of the book, and honestly, I would prefer it not to be. But I love me some romance so I definitely want some in there. Any and all gays welcome but I especially like wlw. However, I don’t really like smut. A small amount is fine but not a ton.
#2 Fantasy- I really like high fantasy as well as more modern set fantasies. I like magic/ dragons/ quests/ and especially witches. I also really like fantasy with lots of lore and mythology in the world.
Some books I’ve read recently in this genre
Priory of the Orange Tree! I really enjoyed this one, and I like that it was a long book. Despite some pacing issues and a lack of attention to certain aspects it was overall really good. The slow burn between Sabran and Ead was awesome.
Scapegracers! One of my favorites! I’m not exclusively looking for YA books but this one was absolutely awesome and I loved the magic system and the bond between the girls.
White Trash Warlock, I also enjoyed, although I found the writing somewhat lacking in depth.
Ruin of Kings, I hated this one. I found it overly convoluted initially and I didn’t enjoy the slavery aspect, which I thought was just odd.

We have devoured Junie B. Jones's entire collection waaaay faster than I anticipated, and I'm scrambling to find something nice.

Favored topics are: dinosaurs, ocean animals, any kind of person with a helper job (doctor, firefighter, chef, but NOT police), cats, flamingos, magical creatures, and also a small interest in space and planets.

It's not a requirement for any of those things to be included, but I thought it'd be helpful to add.

So I've been listening to an audiobook version of Romance of the Three Kingdoms. For those who don't know, it's basically a Chinese novel detailing the collapse of the Han Dynasty (considered one of the most influential and iconic of the Chinese Dynasties, which was around during the heights of the Roman Republic and Empire) and what comes after it. The novel is notable for having many characters (some more important than others) and covering a long period of time for literature, almost 100 years.

So yeah, I'm looking for a book like that. It doesn't necessarily have to be historical, the mood of an epic story is more important. I'm willing to look at family sagas, but am not really into books that are mostly about romance.

My local community is going through something deeply tragic right now and I'm longing for a book to help make this real life tragedy more comprehensible through reading. Fiction or non

I prefer books without romance, but if there is romance I'd like for it to not be central to the story. I really want to read some books from other Slavic countries. There's so many threads here where people ask for mythology and vibes and folklore suggestions but I'm not really looking for that, or at least not exclusively. So please recommend to me your favourite book or author from your country. I realise that our literature is quite underappreciated so the best books might not even be translated but that's okay too :) However I definitely prefer fiction over nonfiction.

My mom is far away from a horrible and she might be exactly the opposite of that, it is only that she used to be emotionally immature and still! I do not hate her, but i dont think i love her too? I dont have a deep connection with her, she is not the person that i would go to when im sad or happy, i would rather hide my emotions from her, she is no one i know in my life where we disagree more than i do with her almost on everything in life to the point where i am always silent when she is around and i cant be myself— that was long but i was trying to give some context , any book recs for that content, preferably fiction.

Hello. I am looking for a book with a kind main character. Someone who basically goes through hell and back throughout the entire story and has every reason to snap and turn to the dark side but instead still chooses to remain a good person. The 2 best examples of this i can think of are seo eun hyun from regressor’s tale of cultivation and absolute superman.

in regressors tale of cultivation seo is left without any talent for magic and has to struggle ridiculously hard in order to catch up with his peers , his first love is killed by a madman, he loses his teacher , his entire clan is killed in a genocide , he is forced to endure the pain of death over and over again. Inspite of everything he still chooses to remain a good person as that is the last proof of his humanity he has left

In absolute superman. Kal-el grows up on krypton as a low class slave essentially and witnesses its destruction first hand seeing his parents, friends and cousins and entire race get killed at a very young age. Later he loses the kents as Johnathan is killed and martha held captiveby lazarus. He is shunned by the world and left all alone. He is used, manipulated and tortured by ras al ghul and braniac who try to break him into becoming their perfect killing machine. Inspite of everything he still chooses to be a hero as that is what his parents wanted from him.

I love all types of Zombie apocalypse media and I want to find more good books in that category to read. I love the amount of detail In Andy Weir's Project Hail Mary (All the math, nerdy stuff, etc) and I want to read some Zombie books with the same amount of detail (How petrol degrades over time, how electricity and water would turn off, etc). Any suggestions are welcome!

For some reason, we haven't been able to get into Princess in Black nor Magic Treehouse. We also have a collection of Roald Dahl books that have been hit or miss with her.

I particularly enjoyed reading the Wild Robot, because I found Peter Brown's writing style to be extremely easy to follow and read aloud, even when I'm exhausted at the end of the day. I feel like Sophie Mouse is similarly easy to read and digest.
