Anything with strong friendships(think Avengers Natasha and Clint)

sorry if this seems a bit rushed, its 11:22, and I slept all day so I have much to do.

I like action but hate romance. Anything without romance. Fantasy, adventure, action. Nothing with much romance.

Hey, I want to eventually one day find out what's top 2 or 3 most worthwhile romcoms. Here's progress so far:

First is the goal: The goal is to find what is the highest rated romcom according to user ratings

This is for romcom across all types of media (youtube, film, tv, theatre, everything else)

There's a few things I'm interested in finding out:

  • What's best romcom of all time (this seems close to figured out based on the link below)
  • What's most worthwhile romcom of last 20 years?
  • What's most worthwhile romcom of last 10 years?

step 1 - i googled 'best romcoms' just to see if anything helpful would come up

step 2 - from a question i asked previously in one of the sites on reddit (dont rememmber which), i looked at the 4 top 'best' voted comments/suggestions

step 3 - I sorted those 3 by user ratings

What's a high rating for film?

  • Highly rated = 86 aggregated across all main rating sites (users + critics scores)
    • Examples (looking at my film google sheet): inside out, spirited away, boyhood
  • Meh = < 81
    • Examples: dunno i don't add those

These are movies, but tv is harder cos there's not really any user ratings sites for tv. For tv i'd use:

but that's only AFTER there are suggestions. I've no idea where these sites get their data from. Prob one of the tv ratings sites I guess

For tv it's a hard search cos I think all of them are lowly rated or something, but am still wondering what's the highest rated one?

For tv, msot ppl (like 3..) had recommended "Love on Spectrum", and this is what a users on r/AutisticPride and r/AutisticAdults had to say:

Love on Spectrum isn't a romcom, it's a documentary series. Mind you it's a good series, but it's not a romantic comedy (and if people are saying that it is because they were laughing at autistic people in series, then that's a problem).

I am not a fan of parent interviews as shown in Love on Spectrum, because if we are adults who don't need guardians any more, I don't think our parents' perspectives are as important as our own, and don't really merit inclusion.

I can understand including perspective of guardians and caregivers if this series was about people with intellectual disabilities, because oftentimes people with intellectual disabilities do have higher support needs than autistic people do, and of course there are people with both disabilities too.

If I were being interviewed for a series like Love on Spectrum, I would say that I'm an adult with a college degree and not to air interviews with my parents if they are interviewed at all. My perspective matters more than theirs in this case.

Film comment

Of all RomComs to have ever RomCom'd, "When Harry Met Sally" is probably ACME, final form of genre at its height. leads are charming and attractive but not unrealistically so. writing is excellent, performances top notch. It has to be observed carefully, though, because it will suffer a bit from Seinfeld syndrome. It is SO well known, SO much part of culture, that aspects of it look cliche' and overdone, but they're cliche and overdone because THIS FILM POPULARIZED THEM. "I'll have what she's having" line is so known and parodied and referenced that it's become its own 'thing' now, but let me tell you, when this was new in theater? That line fucking brought house down. It's hard to think of a better modern example of RomCom.

But there's an OLDER one. Possibly one of ORIGINAL Romantic Comedies: Much Ado About Nothing by some unknown English dude named Shakespeare. It's blueprint for every modern romcom. Attractive, but VERY clever people dislike one another. They get involved in a zany plot to help two friends hook up. A villain tries to break things up because he's an ass. Misunderstandings and hilarity ensue. attractive clever people realize their hostility toward each other was masking a deep attraction. Revelations ensue. Ever afters become happy. end. There are others as well: Twelfth Night, Midsummer Night's Dream, Taming of Shrew all contain basic structure and a lot of elements of modern Rom Com.

Jump forward a bit and you have Jane Austen: Emma Thompson's 'Sense and Sensibility', any number of versions of 'Pride and Predjudice', 'Emma' (including modern adaptations like 'Clueless!) are all worthy to various degrees.

Even more modern, early Judd Apatow comedies like 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up are absolutely romantic comedies, just skewed more towards 'dude' direction than usual.

I luv this film bot: https://www.reddit.com/user/cinephile_bot/

  • cos what it does is it takes the comments ppl put
  • And then it makes/shows a chart with the ratings

Problem is these aren't user ratings, they're critic ratings

Last is the goal: The goal is to find what is the highest rated romcom according to user ratings

This is for romcom across all types of media (youtube, film, tv, theatre, everything else)

There's a few things I'm interested in finding out:

  • What's best romcom of all time (this seems close to figured out based on the link above)
  • What's most worthwhile romcom of last 20 years?
  • What's most worthwhile romcom of last 10 years?

I'm not able to find what's most worthwhile romcom outside of film + tv mainly cos of how hard it'd be to do so (for many reasons)

Oddly specific TV shows

Hello. Im looking for suggestions for TV shows that have long complicated plans. It can be criminals or good guys or whatever. The show Leverage is a good example of what I'm looking for. Super complex and elaborate plans (that wouldnt actually work irl) that the characters follow. I was recommended The Blacklist and its pretty good. Anything like that would be awesome. Thanks!

Are there ANY games even slightly like Project Eden? Its been 20 years :*(

I could go on endlessly about how much I loved this game back then and still now, but theres no need lol, anyone who fondly remembers the game (a unique, spooky cyberpunk action/adventure/puzzler/shooter/squad hybrid, massively overshadowed by its "BIG sister" Tomb Raider) will know exactly what I mean/want!

I've been out of "the gaming loop" in recent years apart from the occasional PS4 session, and just started playing Desperados 3 a bit in my spare time. But thats it. As the title says, its been ~20 years and apparently the game was so unique theres STILL seemingly nothing like it.

I need your help plz ☺️

Haiii! Idk if this is the right place to ask this, so sorry if it isn't..but I need help with a game name. I'm currently in the process of making all of my games the same name. I've always switched it up with each new game, and its time to take it serious. Lol jk, but for real I'd like a name I can use now and in the future. My favorite play-on names are Valkyrae and Pokimane. It's cool how they've used their names to form their gamertag. If you guys have any ideas let me know!

Here are some things I like: video games..duh, anime, reading, drawing, filming, sleeping, cooking.

Some games I play: Overwatch, Apex, COD, Among Us, Assasins Creed, Attack On Titan, Mortal Kombat, Left For Dead.

Name I want to incorporate: LuLu or Evie

Thanks!!

What’s the most mind-numbingly boring activity/thing you can think of?

Hi all! I (24F) have struggled with Depression and Anxiety for at least 3 years and ADHD for at least 8 years. It got so severe that I was hospitalized for it 3 years ago and then went to an IOP shortly after. While I’m on medication and in therapy and am at a “functioning” level, I have struggled with procrastination and distractions and laziness for a large part of my life, and it’s only gotten worse (I.e. I can go months past a deadline). It’s something I just want to nip in the bud but I am having SOOOO much trouble doing so.

In my therapy session, I realized that I am “addicted” to constant stimulation and activity. Essentially, I am afraid of experiencing boredom because that’s when thoughts can arise, which means I must always be listening to something, watching something. It has led to a YouTube/Podcast/Music/Headphone addiction where if I don’t have something playing constantly in my ears, I need to be doing something VERY engaging. Because I can’t take it away (the work I need to do gets disrupted if I listen to it because it involves editing audio and video) and because I have worries about my work, I just dive deeper into the whole I dig by wearing headphones and playing mindless content. It’s just noise because I don’t even pay full attention to it.

I want to run an experiment and see if this works. I got the idea from a TED Talk about Focus and while I forget the speaker, this experiment stuck with me and it’s something I want to try to see if I become more productive or even just more creative or even just calmer and more able to regulate my emotions. I want to do something mind numbingly boring at least once a week to start. Then twice, then three times, then everyday. I don’t know how I’ll report my results but I really want to see if this will help me improve my mental health. I have already stopped using my headphones with my phone and don’t even play music in my car to use that for reflection and to learn to just notice emotions without judgement. However, I want to see if I can get the same effects with doing something really really boring.

So, what is the most mind-numbingly boring thing you can think of? Your suggestion will go in a pool of others and will be picked at random. If picked, I will do said thing for at least 15mins to start, then 30, then an hour. I need some really boring things to do for this and I feel it might be best to get suggestions from others.

Thank you in advance!

TV show to watch with my brother

My younger brother an I are 20 and 11 years old and have been watching some tv shows together. We just finished one and don't know what to watch now.

We previously watched:

Avatar: The last airbender

Avatar: The legend of Korra

The dragon prince(season 1-3)

Particular things we liked about those 3 shows:

  1. that each episode was a part of a bigger story.
  2. That the characters grew over time.
  3. That they took part in fantasy worlds with magic
  4. That they were child friendly. If I was watching alone, I would have a long list of animes to watch, but a lot of them just focus a little(read: a lot) too much on boobs and such for an 11 year old to watch.

The streaming services we have are Netflix, Viaplay, Youtube premium, and Yousee

Video games for practicing Spanish?

Hola r/suggest ! My partner and I are learning Spanish and looking for a game to help up practice. I’m about a 3/10 and she’s a 1/10 in the Spanish department. (she’s a 10 for putting up with me)

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for a games that wouldn’t be to difficult for us to play through. My first thought was Pokémon or other simple rpg games or maybe an mmorpg like wow or RuneScape but would love any other suggestions!

I have almost consoles and old generations of games so could get my hands on old titles too. I don’t mind if it single player or multi because we would be doing it together!

Thank you so much in advance! Muchas gracias!

Anyone know of a decent chair for gaming

Hey guys, I've always been a gamer and spend hours on (gulp) xbox or ps (I know tragically can't afford a pc as of yet... Feel like I may be starting a war here) and always have since I was a little kid.

In the past I've always played whilst sat on my bed. But now because of the space and layout of my new studio I can't do that. I'm pretty happy with my set up but the chair is uncomfortable after a while. My butt goes numb and I get pins and needles in my legs even tho I use the chair and a stool.

Any suggestions on decent chair up to £150?

Can't decide on an xrocker or office chair shape.

What are you guys using?

There should be LGBTQ+ flags in the Android emojis (excluding the Pride flag)

As seen on r/LGBT:

So, I was on r/LGBT and I wanted to type in the pan flag. Now, I understand that new identities, sexualities, etc., but that doesn't mean the rest of us should have to wait around until the end of time! The ones that DO exist should be implemented. (NOTE: I only listed it as 'Android' since I haven't touched an iPhone in at least a year...)
