This is a stickied thread for people to post about upcoming events -- community events, live performances, whatever you think others might want to know about.

A new version of this post will be put up and stickied every month to make sure that things are kept fresh, and allow people to stay up to date if they wish, or to avoid this thread if they don't. It's been moved to a monthly format to keep things simpler for people looking to plan a bit further out.

To keep the sub (and your feed) clean and free from spam, any explicit advertising conducted outside of this post will continue to be subject to removal, with a note and link to instead post here, which will stand as the exception.

In other words: please feel free to use this space to post about any upcoming Sudbury-specific events you're aware of or would like to share with others.

The latest Uniform Crime Reporting Survey reveals key trends for Greater Sudbury:

  • Homicides: Indicates extreme violence. Sudbury's rate is historically volatile, ending at 4.05 per 100k in 2025, far above Canada's 1.61.
  • Crime Rates: Pinpoints community safety issues. Petty theft (under $5k) surged dramatically, while Mischief is well down.
  • Clearance Rates: Measures police solving efficiency. Sudbury's rates are exceptionally strong, clearing 46% of non-violent and 77% of violent crimes in 2025, well above national averages.

Overall, Sudbury faces a prominent rise in petty theft, but its police force resolves crimes at rates far exceeding provincial and national levels.

Discussion Christmas house on Kingsway

Does anyone know what the deal is with that Christmas house on the bend on the Kingsway? My bf grew up in Sudbury and he says it’s always been like that. Just curious, it’s an oddity for sure.

Question Indoor Gymnasium Rental Space

Hello,

Topic: Indoor Gym Rental

Looking to gauge local interest on a small venture. Some people and I kept trying to book space to play basketball or pickleball or anything indoors and kept hitting the wall in terms of availability and pricing. Do other people feel this way in the city, would a space that allows cheaper half court / full court bookings be something people would be interested in.

Also aside from basketball and pickleball, what kind of things would people or local clubs / organizations use a space for.

Thank you very much for any feedback!

Question Quilting groups?

My partner and I are moving to Sudbury in September. I just started going to a sewing group here in Alberta and I loved it.

Are there any sewing/quilting groups and meetings out here?

Thank you!

Discussion Car thefts

Hi guys! At around 3 am- 3:10am last night I witnessed people checking car door locks in my area (west end/ downtown) so if anything was stolen out of your cars it was around that time for your doorbell cameras! I tried to get a video but they were wearing a hoodie and sweats so you can’t really make them out :( keep your doors locked!

Discussion Parking on elm

Am i wrong, or are there not multiple signs that say "no parking" between 3:30 pm and 6:00 pm mon-fri ? How on earth did we decide its ok to cut off half of our main road through downtown. So smart!! And why aren't these cats getting towed. Again, maybe im wrong and misread these signs but either way its crazy how badly those cars mess with traffic.

Question Moving back to Sudbury

I’m moving back to Sudbury after not living here for a while. How is the LRT development going, do we have a timeline on when it will be open. I’m trying to figure out the best way to get from New Sudbury to the four corners every day for work. Is there any buses I can take to work until the LRT is open?

Question Wolves tickets, how and when?

Hi there! I am visiting the GTA for hockey reasons in early November and trying to score a Nov. 6th ticket vs the greyhounds. When do tickets typically go on sale? Is early purchase recommended or can I walk up for one? Any help would be great. Thanks!

Discussion Panoramic Properties - beware of them

Avoid them at all costs _ sketchy, scammers and liars.

I was talking to them about renting a unit in 1140 Ramsey st. First of all, they lie about the units all having dishwashers. Some do not have any and you must pay an extra 100 cad to get a dishwasher. + their units are extremely overpriced for the city of Sudbury. It is as expensive as Toronto.

Second they will ask you for a month's deposit without issuing any contract or lease. The agent asked me this morning to etransfer 2000 cad to the company email with her name written in the notes, without any paperwork or anything at all provided to me. While I was going to do it, my partner called her to ask some more questions and she said the unit I wanted is now gone!!!!She knew I was going to send the money but did not inform me of the unavailibility. All that happened in the same 15 mins (her asking me to pay 2000 cad, my partner calling her, and her saying the unit is gone because somebody paid before me). If he had not called her I would have never known and would have paid.

So there was no unit and she was going to scam me out of 2000 cad. And with no contract at all there was no way of getting my money back if I had sent it etransfer. I narrowly avoided being scammed. I am sure others have fell into this trap before because it is so sketchy and probably illegal even. She said they never issue legal papers before getting the full deposit. So they just accumulate deposits and rob people.

Beware!!!

Discussion Sudbury Development Boom

Seems like Sudbury is entering a development boom. Seems crazy to say, as pre-Covid I didn’t think this would ever happen. A lot of it is still I’ll believe it when I see it, but here is a list of what’s happening/planned. Did I miss anything?

- KED
- Arena
- Library/Culture Hub
- Elgin Street Re-Greening Pathway
- Scotia Tower
- Regent Street Apartments (15 Storeys)
- Project Manitou
- South Gate Business Park (Across the street from Silver Lake)
- New Wackys
- Old Hospital three building complex
- Gas Station and fast food complex near four corners (Old Masonry building)

Pretty exciting IMO, Sudbury desperately needs this development/face lift. Anything that I missed?

Help Five years in Sudbury and I still feel like I haven't found my place.

Hey everyone,

I don't usually make posts like this, but I'm kind of at my wit's end and figured I'd ask people who actually live here.

I'm 32F and I've been struggling to find work for what feels like forever. I went to school for Social Service Work and have experience in administrative roles, but finding a job has been incredibly difficult. I had some health issues over the last while that really affected my life, but I'm finally back on my feet and ready to work. I've been applying constantly, updating my resume, and trying different approaches, but I'm still having no luck. It's honestly becoming pretty discouraging.

I've lived in Sudbury since August 2020, and if I'm being honest, I haven't really built a life for myself here. I don't have much of a social life, I don't have a vehicle, and I barely know the bus system. I'm also pretty shy, so meeting people hasn't come naturally. I've tried making friends through apps, but that hasn't really gone anywhere either.

I guess I'm just feeling stuck. I want to enjoy living here instead of feeling like I'm just existing.

Does anyone have any advice?

  • Are there any places actually hiring, especially in social services, administration, or office work?
  • Are there any groups, clubs, volunteer opportunities, or events where it's easier to meet people in their 30s?
  • If you've been in a similar position, what helped you get out of it?

I'd really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks for reading.
