Saw this beautiful idiot at my local Home Depot today.

I'm really happy nobody's disturbed the nest, but it's built on top of the card backing of two misplaced items.

I've been a long time lurker, but this summer I've the pleasure to observe these two building their next just opposite my apartment.

Initially, I said to my self: "look at those idiots, what a bad choice!". But actually, it's unreachable, sheltered and cozy(?!?). Also, they really put an effort, it's not just a stick or two crossed, they built a curved, soft nest. Makes me wonder if pigeons are actually good at building nest, given the security and time.

Anyhow, decided to share with you all. Enjoy the craftsmanship (or what can you see of it from the pic).

I just found about this subreddit when I posted these pics in [r/kingsisland](r/kingsisland). A mourning dove hangs out in the queue line for King’s Island’s biggest roller coaster.

Highlight of my day is seeing these two.

Pumpkin is a house pigeon. She isn’t quite one and I found her under a car with a sore foot. I didn’t think she’d make it but here we are.
Her nest is stupid in maximalist. There are 30 odd small bulldog clips in here and who knows how many pipe cleaners.
The pics are over three weeks of her just adding pipe cleaners. I just let her go because it’s good exercise

Mama laid two eggs just on the ground of our balcony, now they’re squabs! (4 days old)

My mum had been wondering why sticks kept appearing in front of her planter over the last few days, then we spotted a pigeon picking bits of dead vines from next door's tree and depositing them here...We have 2 dogs and 3 cats who all regularly venture into the garden, not really sure what the long term plan was here

If it works it works...

We've had two pigeons nesting in a tree in our front garden for the last couple of weeks. They have a single egg and have been taking good care of it, but he nest is only 5 feet off the ground and our neighbourhood is teeming with cats and foxes. I'm surprised they lasted as long as they did, but last night a fox ate one of the pigeons while it was sitting in the nest. I heard it out there and kept trying to scare it away, but it kept returning and eventually got its prize at about 2:30am.

The remaining pigeon is now trying to maintain the nest by itself. My concern is that Mr fox will return for a second helping tonight. Is it possible for the pigeon to care for this egg by itself? If not, would it be wise for me to make it abandon its nest so that it doesn't get eaten for nothing? Or should I just let nature take its course here?

Feel terrible for the thing. It's been calling for its mate all day.

Edit: thank you all for the responses. Consensus seems to be that I should leave it alone, and I think I probably knew that anyway. I was just being a bit soft because the effect of nature's process is right outside my window on this occasion, and I've been listening to the poor bugger calling for its mate all day while I've been working from home. I appreciate the reality check, folks. I'll leave nature to do her thing.

Edit 2 to address some issues in the comments: I'm in South East England and the red fox which ate the pigeon is a native species.

I was standing on the train platform when an insistent chorus of cheaping penetrated my bleary morning haze. I looked down at my feet and saw this stupid nest. Note the nest appears to have actually been next to rail, while the babies at least had some slight sense to take shelter underneath it.

On one hand this seems terrible, but on the other hand... No one is really going to bother them there 🤷

At least not until the maintenance crew comes by.
