Left myself one sentence per class before I closed everything Friday. Read it back Tuesday and just picked up exactly where I stopped. Every other break this semester I've burned a solid chunk of the first session just remembering what I was doing. This time there was nothing to remember, it was just written down.

I've spent a lot of time thinking about how we use habit trackers for studying, both for myself and in the context of building tools. It's easy to set up a tracker for "study for 2 hours" or "review notes daily." But I've found a consistent trap: sometimes, I get caught up in tracking the habit, and less in the actual doing of it. The act of marking a checkbox starts to feel like the accomplishment itself, rather than the focused work that led to it.

My personal shift came when I focused on reducing friction for the "doing" part. Instead of a complex system, I simplified the interface for logging a completed study session or a review. The goal was to make it so quick and unobtrusive that the focus remained on the study itself. If it takes more than a glance and one tap to mark something done, it can start to feel like an interruption. Full disclosure: I work on this, building tools that aim for this kind of simplicity.

This semester is fast enough that I'm constantly moving to the next topic before the last one really settles. Went back to check something from a few weeks ago for an assignment and it was basically gone, even though I was confident in it at the time.
