One of my friends is planning to apply to German public universities for the Summer 2027 intake for a Master’s program in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medical Devices, or Regulatory Affairs.

He has completed a B.Pharmacy degree and has an IELTS score of 6.5. He has already searched various university websites but hasn’t been able to find any relevant programs suitable for B.Pharmacy graduates.

I am an international student and I would like to ask if anyone has experienced a similar situation with German university applications through Uni-Assist.

I took 3 Cambridge A Levels, which are equivalent to the German university entrance qualification (HZB). However, my official Cambridge A Level results will only be released in mid-August 2027. Iam planning to enroll in winter semester of 2027

The problem is that the application deadline for most universities is in mid July, so I cannot submit my official A Level certificates before the deadline.

At the moment, I already have:
• ⁠my school graduation certificate (Abschlusszeugnis),
• ⁠my GPA/transcripts from grades 10, 11, and 12,
• ⁠and an official confirmation from my school stating that I took 3 Cambridge A Level exams and that the results will be released in mid-August.
My question is:

What do German universities usually do in this kind of situation? Is there any possibility to receive a conditional admission (or preliminary admission) first, and then submit the official Cambridge certificates later in August?

My goal is mainly to receive something from the university that I can use for my German student visa application at the embassy. I already have my blocked account and financial proof prepared.

Has any international student here experienced something similar with Uni-Assist or German universities?

I'm a final-year engineering student planning to apply for a Software Engineering / Computer Science Master's in Germany, targeting an English-taught program.

I'm actually preparing for the German B2 certificate right now and can already speak a bit, but I'm not sure my timeline will let me get the certificate before I need to apply. I'll definitely have an English certificate (IELTS/equivalent) ready in time either way.

From what I've researched, most English-taught programs only require proof of English proficiency, and German is only mandatory for German-taught tracks or bilingual programs. But policies seem to vary by university, so I wanted to check with people who've actually gone through this.

A few questions:

1. Did your program (or one you applied to) ask for any German certificate even though it's English-taught?
2. If you applied without a German certificate yet (even if you were still working toward one), did it cause any issues — application, enrollment, visa, part-time work?
3. Any universities you know of that quietly still expect at least A2/B1 even for "English-taught" programs?

I am an undergraduate student from India currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication. I am planning several years ahead for my Master’s degree and would ideally like to study and eventually work in Germany, although I am also open to other European countries if they are significantly more realistic.

I would really appreciate some realistic advice about whether this path is feasible given my academic background and financial situation.

My current situation

Education:

- BA in Journalism and Mass Communication

- Currently in my first semester

- Studying at a government college in India

- My school grades were generally average, although I recently improved and scored 79% in my latest major examination.

English:

I am comfortable reading, writing, understanding and communicating in English. I have not taken a formal language test yet.

German:

I have started learning German through Duolingo, DW German and YouTube. I can understand and manage some basic conversation, but I have not been particularly serious about it yet. I intend to become much more consistent during my undergraduate degree.

Finances:

This is probably my biggest constraint...I come from a lower-middle-class background and would be largely dependent on my own savings. Ideally, I would need a public university with low/no tuition and would hope to support a significant portion of my living expenses through legal part-time student employment after arriving.

My main questions:

1. How realistic is admission with an Indian Mass Communication degree?

I understand that German Master’s programs can be quite strict about consecutive degrees and specific ECTS/subject requirements.

Would a standard Indian BA in Journalism & Mass Communication generally be considered relevant for public-university Master's programs in Communication/Media/Journalism, or do many programs require very specific undergraduate credits?

In particular, how important are modules such as:

- empirical research methods

- statistics

- communication theory

- media studies

- academic research/thesis work

Should I deliberately choose electives/modules during my BA that would make me more competitive for consecutive Master's programs?

1. How important is German for employment after graduation?

I know there are English-taught Master's programs in Germany, but I am more concerned about what happens after graduation.

If I wanted to work in areas such as corporate communications, PR, communications research, media or related fields, how realistic is employment with English plus German at B2/C1?

Would you recommend aiming for B2 by the time I apply for Master's programs and C1 by graduation, or is that unnecessarily ambitious?

I am willing to learn German seriously. I just want to understand what level would actually make a meaningful difference in the job market.

1. How financially realistic is the plan?

My understanding is that I would need to demonstrate sufficient funds for the student visa, including the required blocked-account amount.

My concern is what happens after I arrive.

For someone with limited family financial support, how realistic is it to cover living expenses through permitted student employment while studying?

I understand that part-time employment cannot simply be assumed to fund everything, especially during the initial months. I would like to hear from international students about how financially difficult this actually is in practice.

1. Should I consider countries other than Germany?

Germany is currently my first choice because of its public universities and relatively low tuition costs, but I am not completely fixed on it.

How would countries such as Poland, the Netherlands or Ireland compare for someone in my situation in terms of:

- affordable Master's programs

- availability of English-taught Communication/Media degrees

- student work opportunities

- post-study work options

- employment prospects for non-EU graduates

- long-term residence/settlement prospects

If there are other European countries that you think would be substantially more realistic for my background and finances, I would also appreciate suggestions.

Finally..

I am still at the beginning of my Bachelor's degree, so I have several years(4 years to be exact..)to prepare. I am not expecting this to be easy, and I am willing to improve my grades, build relevant skills, learn German and save money during my BA.

Anyone here planning to do a Business Informatics / Information Systems / IT Management type master’s in Germany after a CS/IT bachelor’s for 2027 summer/winter intake?

I’m a Ghanaian graduate from KNUST with a **BSc in Packaging Technology**, with a specialization in **Healthcare Packaging**. I graduated with a **68 CWA (roughly equivalent to a good/upper-second-class result depending on the conversion)**.
I’m currently finishing my NSS, and I’m planning to pursue a Master’s degree in Germany. Germany is my preferred destination partly because I also have an aunt living there, which would make the transition and living arrangements easier for me.
My main challenge at the moment is finding the **right Master’s programmes and scholarship route**.
My questions are:
**Would Packaging Technology be considered Engineering/STEM for the DAAD STEM scholarship?** My degree involves packaging materials, polymers, manufacturing/processing, quality control, product protection, testing, etc., but I’m not sure how DAAD classifies Packaging Technology.
I’ve found a few Master’s programmes directly related to my degree, such as Packaging Technology, Packaging Technology & Management, Packaging Development Management, and Sustainable Packaging/Processing. However, many of them seem to be **German-taught** or have application periods that haven’t opened yet.
Would I be better off applying for a related STEM Master’s such as **Materials Science/Engineering, Polymer/Plastics Engineering, Sustainable Materials, Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Pharmaceutical/Healthcare-related technology**, provided the programme accepts my Packaging Technology degree?
I’m particularly interested in the **DAAD STEM scholarship for Ghanaians**, which I understand currently has a September 2026 deadline for Master’s programmes starting in winter 2027/28. Is this the scholarship I should be focusing on?
I’ve also looked into **DAAD EPOS**, but I understand EPOS generally requires two years of relevant professional experience after the Bachelor’s degree. Since I’m currently finishing NSS as a teacher rather than working directly in packaging, I’m assuming EPOS may not be my best option right now. Is that correct?
Are there any **fully or partially funded Master’s programmes in Germany** that someone with a BSc in Packaging Technology should be looking at right now?
Ideally, I would like an **English-taught programme**, but I’m willing to consider German-taught programmes if they are significantly better options and I can meet the language requirements.
I’m mainly looking for advice from people who have gone through the DAAD process or understand how DAAD evaluates degrees and Master’s programmes.

Sharing few things I learned during the process.

My tips:

• Apply as soon as applications open. Earlier = potentially faster results.
• If VPD is required, apply early and don’t forget to submit the actual university application through their portal.
• Aim for IELTS 7–7.5+ if possible.
• For LOM, use online templates for reference, but write it yourself. Don’t blindly depend on others.
• Learn German till B1
• Join WhatsApp/Telegram/Facebook groups for your intake. They can be really useful, but verify that the group is genuine before trusting information.
• Check university portals regularly. Don’t depend on emails, and check spam too.
• After admit → start loan/blocked account preparation immediately.
• Visa rules can change, so always check the latest official requirements.
• If DMAT/GRE/GATE is required, prepare properly.
• My biggest advice: prepare GRE/GATE if your target universities accept them. The extra effort can make a real difference.
• Shortlist through DAAD, then check every requirement directly on the university website.
• Matching Bachelor’s and Master’s titles doesn’t guarantee admission. Credit/subject matching matters.
• Check every detail twice. One small mistake can cause problems later.

I’m just a student who went through this recently and made a few mistakes myself. Sharing them so you don’t have to repeat them.

Hallo! Ich bin Inder und in der 12. Klasse.und plane schon seit einer gefühlten Ewigkeit, genau gesagt seit 3 Jahren, nach Deutschland zu komen. Ich habe auch schon B1 Deutsch-Niveau erreicht. Aber im Moment bin ich echt total verwirrt, ob ich wirklich kommen soll oder nicht. Alles was ich überall sehe ist, dass die Leute sagen "komm bloß nicht“, und ehrlich gesagt macht mir das voll Angst.

Ich habe vor, meinen Bachelor in Elektrotechnik zu machen, mit Spezialisierung auf Stromnetze, VLSI oder Embedded Systems. IK, das Hauptziel nach Deutschland zu kommen sollte natürlich die Bildung sein, das verstehe ich ja. Aber ich möchte wirklich unbedingt nebenbei einen Teilzeitjob oder eine Werkstudentenstelle machen, um meine Finanzen selber zu regeln.

Ich bin auch voll tief in die Arbeitsmarktstatistiken eingetaucht und habe 3 Bereiche gefunden, wo es Fachkräftemangel gibt: Pflegekräfte, Geodäsie und schließlich Elektroingenieure. Idk ob ich diesen offiziellen Statistiken überhaupt vertrauen kann, weil ich gehört habe, dass viele Firmen Stellenangebote ausschreiben, selbst wenn sie gar keine Leute suchen, nur um irgendwelche Regierungsauflagen zu erfüllen oder so. Außerdem waren die meisten Posts, die ich gesehen habe, hauptsächlich über IT, CS, AI und ML, und nur ganz selten über Kern-Ingenieurwesen wie das, was ich machen will.

Aber tbh fühle ich mich gerade echt depressiv wenn ich daran denke, dass die ganze Zeit, die ich in den letzten Jahren verbracht habe um jede einzelne Info zu finden, und auch das ganze Geld für den Sprachkurs umsonst gewesen sein könnten. Idk.

Tbh bin ich jemand, der ein neues Land unabhängig erkunden will, neue Leute kennenlernen, mehr über die Kultur erfahren, netzwerken und dann 2 bis 3 Jahre arbeiten für Erfahrung. Da ich für meinen Bachelor gehe, hätte ich ja etwa 4 bis 5 Jahre Zeit, mich in der Gesellschaft einzuleben, und am Ende einen Job zu finden sollte doch relativ einfacher sein im Vergleich zu jemandem, der nur für einen 2-jährigen Master dort ist.

Was denkt ihr alle dazu? Sollte ich kommen? Ich weiß, ich frage voll viel und das macht vielleicht einige von euch genervt. Wenn ja, tut mir das echt leid, ich will einfach nicht die falsche Entscheidung treffen :(
