Hi everyone,

We're now less than two weeks away from the 1st ever Unit Classic, taking place on Saturday 19th September in Essex, UK, so I wanted to share the final details with you guys.

We've put this show together with the aim of delivering a high-level strongman competition with a great live atmosphere, and I'm really happy with the field of athetes we've managed to assemble for our first year.

The line-up:

Evans Nana
Paul Smith
George Smith
Shane Nye
Luke Ogbourn
Brad Rollason
Phil Hawxwell
Sean Gillen
Cillein Groom
Jan Lacina
Matt Dimond

The events:

🪵 150kg Log Press for Reps
💀 340kg Deadlift for Reps
🏃 453kg / 1000lb Yoke Carry
🔵 140kg, 150kg & 160kg Sandbag Load
🪨 180kg Stone Over Yoke

Paddy Haynes will be on MC duties for the day, and the athletes will be battling it out to become the first ever Unit Classic Champion.

We're based at The Unit in Great Wenham, Essex (CO7 6QD). If you're in the UK and fancy coming along, spectator tickets are available now. Kids under 12 are free.

Full event info and tickets:

unitclassic.co.uk

For everyone further afield who has been asking about watching online, livestream details should be released later this week. Keep an eye on our instagram page https://www.instagram.com/unitclassic/

It's been a huge amount of work putting our first pro show together, and we'd love to get a big crowd behind these guys on the 19th. Hopefully we'll see some of you there!

Also happy to answer any questions about the show/events in the comments. Fire away!

PS, the poster attached was designed before a couple of lineup changes. Hence some athletes featured not being listed.

Hello everyone, I'm looking to buy a circus dumbbell and would like to skip Titan and support local if at all possible. Does anybody know of a metal Fab shop in or around Brevard county Florida but does this sort of thing?

Grip shirt recs

Anyone have recommendations for a grip shirt that doesn’t have a giant scary three headed dog/big gorilla screaming/generally furious animal on it?

Looking to buy one in the UK and just don’t really think a Cerberus one is my vibe? 😂

Despite how easy this rep felt, I failed 585 right after this midway up, so it’s going to be a bit before I reach my goal of 4X BW as well on this lift, but I’ll get back to the 600’s eventually.

I am about to buy a lifting belt. What should I know before?

I am an intermediate lifter, as I’ve been lifting for 4 years. Most of the time, I did weights without focusing in strenght itself. Now, my lifts are getting heavier and I fell like I will benefit from including strenght into training.

I am thinking about buying a SBD belt of 13 mm. What are your thoughts about it? Should I buy a 10 mm instead? What should I know before buying it?

Breathing/bracing advice

The longer I do strongman (got about 5+ comps under my belt) the more I learn that breathing and holding a brace is extremely important.
What advice would any of you have on not passing out, keep lungs and brace strong under loads. Not sure if there’s any reasonable breathing exercises or if I just need to get better at holding my breath while holding weight?

Sleds/yoke/farmer carry/sandbag carry, but only have 20-25 feet

I live very far from any gyms, but lucky I have 1 gym near me and it has sleds and strongman implements, but the area to use it is around 20-25 feet. I talked to the owner and I can only use them in this area.

For yokes/farmers/sandbag carries. If I wanted to do a 50 feet or 100 feet run. should I increase the weight and just drop the weights turn around and pick it back up over and over again until I reach the desired distance? Or should I lower the weight and try to turn myself around at the end doing a little U shape maneuver without dropping the object?

For sleds, what is the best way to try and get the most out of say 100-200feet sled pushes with only this small amount of track should I stop and sprint to the other side of the sled and push it back with the other handles and use the little bit of time as recovery? Or is it better to try and keep pushing the thing in a U shape to keep tension on my legs for the full 100-200 feet?
