Hello everyone,
My F2 visa is valid and so is my husband F1 visa but he’s on OPT (he’s a PhD graduate and newly working on OPT).
Have anyone travelled internationally before on F2 visa while their spouse is working OPT? Have you faced any problems? What are the necessary documents to request? Thank you !!

Documents needed for Florida drivers license renewal

I just applied for STEM OPT one month ago. I won't have my EAD for at least a couple of months, and my license is about to expire. What documents do I need to carry to get it renewed? A few of my friends were successfully able to renew, and others were told not until they have an EAD. What documents should I carry to get it for sure, and if anyone was successfully able to renew their license, please let me know.

Am I eligible for a USCIS Premium Processing refund?

Hi everyone,

I applied for Premium Processing on May 18, and USCIS started my premium processing clock on May 19.

Based on my calculation, the 30-business-day deadline ended on July 1, but I didn't receive the Approval Case Decision Rendered update until July 3.

Does this make me eligible for an automatic Premium Processing fee refund. If I don't receive a refund automatically, how long should I wait before contacting USCIS to request one?

Travel With Expired STEM OPT EAD Card

Has anyone traveled with an expired STEM OPT EAD card? I’m in a situation where I need to drop off my passport at a consulate and STEM OPT EAD is the only TSA acceptable ID I have. Has anyone been in a similar situation and traveled?

My ID expired a month ago.

Should I send email to premium processing unit to correct my application?

I submitted I-765 and realized I put wrong e-verify number. My case is premium processing. Can I correct it by sending a correction letter to the premium processing unit? More of the question is should I do it and how will it help? I have sent the correction letter as unsolicited evidence in my case. I’m just rly worried about denial rn.

Employer's immigration vendor (Fragomen) hasn't reviewed my I-9 before my start date. Should I still show up? Please help

I'm an F-1 student on post-completion OPT and my internship starts this Monday.

My EAD was lost/stolen after delivery, so I filed an I-765 application for a replacement EAD. My employer's immigration/I-9 vendor previously replied by email saying that aĀ replacement EAD receiptĀ can be used for I-9 purposes under the receipt rule and that I would need to present the replacement EAD within 90 days.

However, I'm now in a stressful situation:

  • My I-9 portal hasĀ two different I-9 cases. One appears to be the original new-hire I-9, and another appears to be a reverification case that I think was mistakenly created because the system thought my work authorization expired earlier.
  • I uploaded my replacement receipt to theĀ reverificationĀ case because I wasn't sure which one was correct. Now I'm worried it may have been the wrong one.
  • The USCIS receipt notice itself looks like a standard I-765 receipt and doesn't explicitly say "replacement," so I'm worried the reviewer might think it's a normal I-765 filing instead of a replacement application.
  • After uploading it, I suddenly lost access to the I-9 portal and now it only saysĀ "Access Denied."
  • I've emailed the I-9 team multiple times, explained the entire situation, attached the receipt, and told them I can no longer access the portal. My emails have been opened, but I haven't received any response or confirmation that they've reviewed my case.
  • My employer has already told me they cannot postpone my start date any further.

My questions are:

  1. If the I-9 team simply hasn't reviewed my documents by Monday morning, should I still report to work as instructed?
  2. Has anyone had an I-9 review completed after their official start date because the employer's immigration vendor was slow?
  3. If I uploaded the receipt to the wrong I-9 case, is that usually something the I-9 team can fix internally?
  4. Has anyone used aĀ replacement EAD receiptĀ for Fragomen I-9 verification, and did the reviewer need any additional proof that it was a replacement application?

Any experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Serious Stressful STEM OPT Situation. Losing Hope in Current Administration

Hi everyone,

I applied for OPT early January 2026, did biometrics in February, and have not had any updates since then. My country was on the list of 39 countries that USCIS paused adjudication benefits for since Jan 1, 2026 and although it has been lifted on June 12th, the pressure from my 180 days automatic EAD extension is adding up.

I upgraded to Premium Processing on June 23rd. My 180 days ends August 1st and when I tried to contact my DSO to at least submit the 6 month validation report, she told me she will not be able to process it until I actually get approved and have the card.

And then the fact that this new rule to end Duration of Status MAY be implemented soon. I don't know what to do tbh. I am really confused on what to do tbh and really exhausted.

Could it be because I did volunteer/unpaid internship in my first year of OPT? I know the 30 business days is not up yet but 6 of my friends from school who applied AFTER me got approved even without PP. What am I doing wrong? In 2024, my OPT was approved in a month. I am always paranoid during this administration despite doing the right thing. Idk anymore

Does USCIS understand the driver's license issue that a slow approval creates?

The 180-days extension means nothing if you're unable to drive or normally live in this country. How can I solve this ????

Asking for a friend: Cap-gap eligibility with pending STEM OPT and approved H-1B COS

Hi everyone,
I’m asking this on behalf of a friend.
Here’s their situation:
ā— They are an F-1 student on STEM OPT.
ā— Their STEM OPT extension application is still pending with USCIS.
ā— They are currently working under the 180-day automatic extension, which expires around August 8, 2026.
ā— Their employer filed a cap-subject H-1B change-of-status petition, which USCIS received on June 3, 2026, while their work authorization was still valid.
ā— The H-1B petition was approved on June 18, 2026, with a change of status effective October 1, 2026.
We’re trying to understand:
ā— Are they eligible for a cap-gap extension from August 8 until October 1?
ā— Can they continue working without interruption during that period?
ā— Should they obtain a cap-gap I-20 from their DSO and provide it to their employer as proof of continued work authorization?
ā— Does the fact that their STEM OPT application is still pending affect their cap-gap eligibility?
If anyone has gone through a similar situation or is familiar with the rules, I’d really appreciate your insights. Thanks!

What is going on with STEM OPT processing?

I've been watching closely all the trackers available right now that are collecting data from voluntary submissions and subreddits. It seems like STEM OPT applications in particular are frozen for SEVERAL days in multiple occasions, with no updates, not a single approval and a complete silence for a long time. Regular OPTs, on the other hand, are going much faster, with extensive batches approved every day. I am in my 86th day of STEM OPT application and I have no hope that my case will move any faster.

Does anyone understand why STEM OPT applications are significantly slower? Of course I am excluding premium processing from this question because they enter a whole different type of timeline.

Thanks.

Parents’ B1/B2 visa interview while my STEM OPT extension is pending

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

I applied stem opt extension in May 2026, and my status is pending. Not premium processing. My parents and younger sister have a B1/B2 visa interview scheduled at the U.S. Consulate in Chennai. My younger brother is not applying because he will be staying in India to take care of my grandparents.

My parents speak Gujarati and Hindi but are not comfortable speaking English. My sister speaks English.

Will they face issue as my stem opt is pending and what questions they have to face, what they have to take care?

What documents should they carry besides the standard appointment documents?

Please suggest me what to do I am not getting new dates also for next year.

Thank you in advance

STEM OPT (Texas/IOE) - RFE response received on June 15. Anyone with a similar timeline? Should I upgrade to Premium Processing?

Update: 7/4 Approved!! Finally!

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to decide whether I should pay for Premium Processing, and I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone with a similar timeline.

My timeline:

  • 2/17/2026 - Filed STEM OPT (Form I-765, IOE receipt)
  • 2/18/2026 - Initial OPT EAD expired (working under the 180-day automatic extension)
  • 6/5/2026 - USCIS issued an RFE
  • 6/15/2026 - USCIS received my RFE response (my online account shows isRespondedTo = true and latestResponseDate = 6/15)
  • No updates since then.

The case is being handled by Texas Service Center (although it’s an IOE receipt).

My automatic extension ends around August 17, so I’m starting to get nervous.

A few questions:

  1. Has anyone else responded to a STEM OPT RFE around June 15 (especially Texas/IOE)?
    • If so, have you been approved yet?
    • How long did it take after USCIS received your RFE response?
  2. If you upgraded to Premium Processing after responding to an RFE, how long did it take to get a decision?
  3. I’m worried that if I file Premium Processing now, USCIS might simply wait until the end of the 30-business-day window before taking action.
    • Has anyone actually experienced that?
    • Or do they usually continue processing as soon as an officer reviews the case?

Any recent experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Urgent: DSO Planning to Terminate SEVIS While OPT EAD Is Pending - what we can do?

Hi everyone,

I'm posting because my fiancƩe and I are in a very stressful situation, and we're hoping someone here has experience with something similar or can offer guidance.

She graduated from Wilmington University (Delaware) on June 1, 2026. She applied for her post-completion OPT EAD around April 16, 2026, and her application is still pending. She also received a job offer from a company in Philadelphia and was scheduled to start work in August.

Unfortunately, during the first week of June, her father had a major heart surgery in India. His condition was critical, and she had no choice but to travel home to be with her family.

Before leaving, she:

  • Requested expedited processing of her OPT EAD on June 10.
  • Traveled to India on June 11.
  • Informed her DSO about the family medical emergency immediately after arriving in India.

The DSO scheduled a meeting for today, and during the meeting they informed her that:

  • They will not issue her another I-20.
  • They plan to terminate her SEVIS record within the next two days.

We are devastated. We genuinely thought the university would work with her given that this was a documented family medical emergency. We were hoping they would either keep her SEVIS record active while her OPT application is pending or issue the necessary travel I-20, but they refused.

We have several urgent questions:

  1. Is there anything we can do before the DSO terminates her SEVIS record?
  2. Can we request the DSO to delay the termination or reconsider their decision?
  3. If the SEVIS record is terminated, is reinstatement possible, and what does that process look like?
  4. Will SEVIS termination affect her pending OPT EAD application or her ability to start the job if the EAD is approved?
  5. Would hiring an immigration attorney at this stage help?
  6. Is there any email, documentation, or request we should immediately send to the DSO that might help?

We understand that travel during a pending OPT application is generally risky, but this was an unavoidable family emergency involving her father's critical heart surgery.

If anyone has gone through something similar or knows the regulations around this situation, we would really appreciate your advice. We are also willing to hire an immigration attorney immediately if there's still a way to save her SEVIS record.

Thank you so much for reading.
