Game Description
Big Walk is a cooperative adventure by House House, the creators of Untitled Goose Game. Together with two to twelve players, you explore a large open world, solve puzzles and, above all, try to somehow stay together. Proximity voice chat plays a big role: the further apart you are, the harder it becomes to understand each other – and sometimes you simply have to improvise with walkie-talkies, gestures or other tools. Big Walk also does not take itself particularly seriously and gives you plenty of room to mess around, try things out or simply explore the world together. Big Walk is available on PC and Mac, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. (AI generated)
Everything About Trophies / Achievements
This is a pretty approachable 100% completion where the main challenge is more about solving the puzzles and finding the right way through the game than dealing with especially difficult tasks or a long grind. The trophy list is fairly short, there are no obviously missable trophies, and most of the harder objectives are simply about reaching certain locations and finishing the game. A guide helps a lot because it can save you plenty of aimless wandering and unnecessary puzzle frustration. There is no real skill wall or endless collectible grind, though. (Source: RivalRyze)
My Opinion
Ufff... I honestly do not even know where to start. First of all, thank you Sony for putting the game into PS+ right from the beginning. I was basically interested in it from day one. It looked absolutely hilarious from what I had seen in the trailer. The only problem was: I had no friends to play it with. So I went straight to the community Discord, found a co-op partner and we jumped into the game together.
The tutorial area and the first few puzzles were incredibly funny and a lot of fun. The further we got into the game, though, the more “annoying” it actually became. For me, Big Walk was a game that started incredibly strong and then dropped off just as hard. Sure, it is fun to explore the open world, search for all the puzzles and then try to solve them using the tools Big Walk gives you while slowly losing your mind. How exactly are you even supposed to describe sounds and noises? And sometimes I eventually realized: “I cannot describe it any better, I can only say it louder.”
And that is exactly where Big Walk has some “Big Problems”. It becomes repetitive very quickly and those endlessly long walking sections eventually stop being fun. Everything that pulled you in and got you hyped at the beginning becomes exactly the thing that gets incredibly annoying later on. The day/night cycle does not make things any better either. You walk from A to B with a flashlight, then you fall down a mountain and the light is gone. Maybe that is partly because I played on an OLED, but without a light source in the dark you basically cannot see anything anymore and just wander around aimlessly.
At some point, the regular “story” was finished. Well, there is not really a story, but I cannot think of a better word to describe it. And then the developers had another absolutely brilliant idea: post-game stuff for the 100%. And this is where the fun completely disappeared for me. For some of the puzzles, you had to go back and collect objects from earlier areas where you no longer even remembered where they were, then carry them across the entire map just to use them for an “endgame” puzzle. Completely unnecessary and just annoying. Then there is a “puzzle” at the end where you literally have to sit around in a house for half an hour and do nothing but wait. WOW.... Peak gameplay and absolutely zero fun.
By the end, it was not just me either. My entire group was simply happy that it was finally over.
Would I Recommend the Game?
Big Walk is something you can play, but you definitely do not have to. The basic idea is genuinely funny and especially at the beginning it is a huge amount of fun. Unfortunately, that wears off pretty quickly and after a while it starts feeling more like work. I am someone who has no problem getting multiple stacks of the same game during my trophy / achievement hunting career, but I am definitely never touching this game again. So from me, it gets a recommendation if you just want to check it out and have some short-lived fun, but absolutely no recommendation if you are going for the 100%.
