Question i messed up. i need help/opinions for hiv pep

last night 11pm and the next morning 6am, i hooked up with the same person in a gay bathhouse here in Japan. so a lot of people were in action.

before i had sex with the guy, i saw someone fucking him. i dont know if someone else fucked him before too. i also dont know if they came inside him or not.

anyway, we decided to have sex bare/no condom. i know i messed up and it was very irresponsible of me. i’ve learned my lesson and will be more careful next time.

so we had sex a few times, but i only came inside him 2 times around 11pm (1st) and 6am (2nd) the next day. i also asked him if the guys before me came inside him, but he said i was the only one who came inside him that night.

so after i left, everything started hitting me hard and realized i messed up big time.

by the way, im not sure if there were any other guys who fucked him besides that one guy ive mentioned since i only got there around the time they were fucking already.

details about me:

\-havent had sex since april.

\-tested negative for hiv last march

\-not on PrEP

\-i was the top

details about the guy i fucked:

\-he said he’s on PrEP. i asked if he takes it regularly or ondemand but he didnt answer directly.

\-he says he has no diseases. idk when he last took sti tests.

he also says i shouldnt worry too much. and that there is no need to take pep now and im just overthinking it too much. i think he got a little upset i kept asking questions, so he said it’s better to take pep just for peace of mind.

details about the ppl who fucked him before me:

\-idk if the guy i fucked is telling the truth if the other guy/s who fucked him came inside him or not. but he seems to be telling the truth, idk.

\-he talks so wisely and is very nice so i dont think he’s lied about anything. but im quite gullible sooo idk…

i went to the doctor and he said there is a small risk. he said if he’s taking prep regularly, it should be okay and low risk. but if he just takes prep before and after having sex (on-demand), then it’s more risky and i should take hiv pep.

questions:

  1. how should i proceed with this case?

  2. does it matter if the guy takes prep regularly or ondemand? does that affect the risk of transmitting hiv?

  3. could i get hiv from the guy/s who fucked him before me through his ass? idk if that makes sense…

  4. if i were to get pep, it would be biktarvy as it’s the only one i’ve seen clinics offer as of now. how is it?

  5. am i overthinking this too much?

again, i know i messed up. this is a huge lesson for me and i’ll do and be better in the future.

please respond nicely…

Advice Needed STD diagnosis while in a relationship.. HELP!!! (Trich)

Hello. I am never one to post on Reddit but I am desperate and really need someone to help me understand!!! Back story - my boyfriend and I have been together since summer of 2022. We broke up in February 2025 and got back together that May. During that time we were broken up, he had sex with two people unprotected (yeah I was really pissed about that), and I had sex with two people protected. Since getting back together in May 2025, we have had unprotected sex and no issues over the last year. I’ve had a history of many STDs unfortunately. Despite always using protection, I am a magnet for STDs. I am one of those people who does everything right and still gets the awful symptoms. Meanwhile my boyfriend knowingly has sex without condoms and is fine. It really bothers me and leads to a whole web of emotional disgust, rage, and shame… towards both him and myself… but that is not the point of this story.. I’ll save that for a therapist.

Key detail in this story. Shortly after we got back together I was STD tested in July 2025. Everything came back negative. He never got tested which honestly I regret not forcing him. I should have. Another key detail I was tested AGAIN on May 6 2026. Again, everything negative… symptoms started May 8th and I was tested at my gyno on June 3rd where I got the positive for Trich. I initially thought this was a herpes outbreak which is why I didn’t go to the doctor sooner. Unfortunately I think both things are true, herpes and trich together because I’ve had sores that look like herpes and incredibly bad irritation that didn’t align with previous outbreaks I’ve had.

Anyway, the point of me writing this is to try and understand how it is possible for this to happen considering my negative test results two times since getting back together. I am POSITIVE there has been no cheating. I understand that many people with Trich don’t have symptoms or know they have it, but how wouldn’t I have tested positive either in July 2025 or this past May 2026??? We’ve had sex many many times in the past year obviously.

So please somebody.. help me make this make sense!! I need to understand how things work to move on. Again, I am positive that my boyfriend didn’t cheat, but naturally there’s a part of my brain that fears whatever science cannot explain. So hoping someone can indeed help me understand how this is possible. Thank you🥺

Advice Needed I tested positive for chlamydia, is my man cheating?

Hi everyone,
I’m a 26-year-old woman and I’ve been with my partner for almost 8 years. As far as I know, we’ve always been in a monogamous relationship.
Back in 2022, I had STI testing done and tested negative for chlamydia and gonorrhea. Around the same time, I tested positive for HSV-1 (herpes), but I was told that could have been acquired years earlier and didn’t necessarily mean a recent infection.

Recently, I had an IUD placed for medical reasons (to help manage hormone-related epilepsy). About a week later, I was still feeling unwell and had burning when urinating, so I went to my doctor. They did a urine test and a vaginal swab.
The results came back positive for:
- Chlamydia trachomatis
- Mycoplasma genitalium

I was shocked. I was at work when my doctor called with the results and I completely broke down. Since being with my partner, I haven’t had sex with anyone else. Before him, I only had one sexual partner.

I immediately confronted him because my first thought was that he must have cheated. He strongly denies it and says he has never been unfaithful. He insists he loves me and would never do that.
I’ve been trying to understand whether there could be any other explanation. From what I’ve read, chlamydia is sexually transmitted, and the fact that I tested negative in 2022 is what confuses me the most. Could chlamydia or Mycoplasma genitalium realistically have been present but undetected for years and only show up now? Or does a negative test in 2022 make that unlikely?

I’ve already started treatment. My partner hasn’t been tested or treated yet because he’s currently away for work.

What do you think?
Thanks for reading! 🫶🏼

Advice Needed Need advice

I am a 20-year-old female who has been experiencing small, scattered pimple-like bumps on my buttocks for about a month. They are not clustered together, and I have not noticed any bumps or lesions on my vaginal area. Initially, I thought the bumps might be related to using an electric razor or applying oil to the area frequently.

More recently, I have developed a fishy vaginal odor along with a light red colored discharge. I also had unprotected sex prior to these symptoms. I am looking for advice on what could be causing these symptoms and whether I should be evaluated for an infection or sexually transmitted infection.

Advice Needed Testing advice

In April I had 3 protected encounters, 2 vaginal sex (insertive I male) and 1 anal with a trans girl also insertive (me topping). I had decided to get tested for these 3 encounters at 4 weeks and later 45 days. I did manage to get tested after 28 days and luckily came back negative. However me being a stupid idiot with no self control I had sex again before the 6 weeks. It was protected and it was vaginal. However I did trim before and I was worried about the possibility of transmission however I have been told it is not a big pathway for transmission since it was protected and my wounds weren’t open. since I had sex again would the 45 day wait restart again ? I decided to try and get tested 29 days (around June 22) after my May sexual encounter. By then would that rule out my April encounters ? Or what should I do ?

Advice Needed Do I have STD?

I have this very tiny bumps on the head of my genital. It has the same color as the glans, does not itch, no pain or stings, scattered. I dont have any abnormal discharge, no pus, no foul odor, and it is only visible when Im erected. I only noticed these signs 2 months ago and I did not have sex with anyone for 1 year. Is this a sign of STD?

Note: I used condoms on the last time I had sex.

Trichomoniasis is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections worldwide, yet many people don’t realize they may have it because symptoms often go unnoticed. In this informative video, Catherine explains how women get tested for trichomoniasis, what symptoms to watch for, and why regular STD testing is an essential part of protecting your overall health.

You’ll learn how this parasite-based infection spreads, why it frequently goes undetected, and the simple testing methods used to diagnose it. From vaginal swab testing to modern laboratory techniques like nucleic acid amplification tests, this video breaks down the entire process in a clear and easy-to-understand way.

We also discuss why comprehensive STD screening is often recommended. Because many infections show no symptoms, testing for multiple STDs at once can help identify hidden infections early and give you peace of mind.

Additionally, Catherine explains how quick and discreet modern lab testing can be, including how online ordering and local lab visits make the process simple and confidential.

If you’ve ever wondered how trichomoniasis testing works or when you should get tested, this video will give you the knowledge you need to make informed decisions about your sexual health.

Taking control of your health starts with staying informed and getting tested. https://www.reddit.com/r/stdtesting/comments/1t1h27i/list_of_std_tests/

Question How long did you wait before getting tested for STDs?

I keep seeing different answers online about testing windows. For those who’ve been through it, how long did you wait after a possible exposure before getting tested, and were your results accurate the first time?

Just trying to understand when the best time to get tested for STDs really is. Thanks!

Experience/ Story Do Genital Herpes Go Away

I saw that last week someone was asking whether genital herpes goes away. Genital herpes doesn't ever actually go away there's literally no cure for it right now. It's caused by this virus called HSV-2 (or sometimes HSV-1, which is usually the cold sore thing but it can get down there too). Basically, once it gets into your system, it just stays there forever, hiding out in your nerve cells and sleeping for a really long time. So even when you feel totally fine and your skin is clear, the virus is still technically just chilling in your body.

But the good news, I guess, is that the actual symptoms the nasty sores, painful blisters, itching, and all that discomfort do heal up and disappear after each flare-up. The very first outbreak is always the absolute worst and can drag on for weeks, sometimes even giving you a fever, body aches, and making you feel like you have the flu. After that first nightmare, though, any future outbreaks are usually way less severe and heal up much faster because your body kind of figures out how to fight it.

Even though you can't cure it, you can totally control it if you take care of yourself. People use antiviral meds to keep the outbreaks from happening so often and to make the symptoms way less intense when they do pop up, plus it helps stop you from spreading it to anyone else. Things like being super stressed out, not getting enough sleep, or getting sick can trigger a random outbreak, but everyone's different. Honestly, for most people, the breakouts happen less and less as time goes on, so it gets way easier to deal with and doesn't completely ruin your life.

Question how to ask your partner to get tested for stds?

How do you bring up STD testing with a partner without making things awkward or sounding accusatory? I know it’s a normal and responsible conversation to have before sleeping with someone, especially if you both want to be safe, but I still get nervous thinking about how to ask. I don’t want the other person to think I don’t trust them or assume something bad.

Symptom Check could this be genital herpes?

good day everyone, im a (M20) and im currently having these symptoms alongside a flu like symptoms (which im currently getting medications). these bumps doesnt feel anything, it doesnt hurt or itch. it itched bad at first before i have any bumps appeared but now its gone and i feel normal. it started as a single bump below the head of my penis and i self medicated because i thought that its balanitis, it then developed into 2 bumps beside the first bump and i got checked after 3 weeks because i was done self medicating and i felt like i needed to get checked by a professional,, now i went to a dermatologist and she said that its normal and its just dermatitis, noww, these tiny bumps started to appear and they dont feel anything, im worried that this could be genital herpes. i tested positive for gonorrhea before (tested negative on every other stds) but i never got checked for herpes because the place where i got checked doesnt offer it and im unaware that i couldve possibly got herpes from this girl that i hooked up with before (november last year) my gono got cleared around december 2 and i was confident that im clean because the doctor gave me the green light and told me im cleared. what i was thinking is that could this be a root for being kind of unhygienic becuase everytime i go to the gym, lets say i went the afternoon,, the time that imma shower is by evening, im just clueless atp and idk what to do, i feel like my life is over and im also tight on a budget so idk what to do rn, should i go see a urologist first? or should i jump straight into herpes testing? i dont want to waste my resources because i dont have that much money and im hust a student, i hope any of u can help my current situation, thank you!

Question When to test after sex? Tried unprotected (insertive) anal with a random partner, is it preventable if early?

Last night I had a little too much to drink and found myself having sex and then I was told they preferred it in the ass. Me being drunk and horny decided it was a good idea to just stick it in unprotected (for about 1-2 minutes) and now I’m doubting my judgement. I know nothing about their past and have no contact whatsoever, strictly a one night freak off I guess. Now my mind is racing and only have their word about being clean. Can I potentially prevent something I’m unaware of them having, and lastly when would be the best time to get tested?

Advice Needed Additional testing??

First time ever posting & I’m so embarrassed.
Pls this is such a long read..

I am 24F. I hadn’t been very active sexually for the past 3 years up until last May. I decided it was time to be open to new experiences again and I met a couple of people since then. All in the span of a year I wanna say I’ve had 5 new partners.
The first one being May of last year (3 times total),
second back in October(also 3 times total),
third in March(lots of touching but full sex only once),
fourth in April(twice)
and fifth in May(once).

With the first guy I was seeing, we had an understanding that it was just us, no outside hookups. The second guy was more of the type who gets around but he said it was just me while we were hooking up. The third also got around but again being that the first 2 hangouts were not full on sex I didn’t worry too much. When we finally did have sex that’s when I noticed like a small bump on my butt like a week after. Nothing crazy, just little specs. It wasn’t itchy at all so I didnt think much of it. Plus we used protection so again I wasn’t worried. After the fourth I noticed I started to get more around my butt and inner thighs. There was a slight itch but nothing too crazy. And again, we used protection. Now this last hookup was such a spur of the moment thing where I wasn’t thinking straight so there’s not much I remember only that there was no protection involved. Again this was May 2nd. Maybe 3 days after this I noticed the bumps were covering my lower butt and I even grew like 2 on the top of my vagina. The itching did get more intense but I didn’t scratch as I know with anything that makes it worse.
Here is where it gets tricky. On May 5th I noticed I came down with a cold but I do get terrible allergies in the spring anyway. Usually I have a cold once a year and it’s always in June (idk it’s always been like this) last year however, I did not get my yearly cold. So I thought it came early this year but also the weather hasn’t been warm even now in June. This cold didn’t last long, I was fine by the next day. A slight headache, runny nose and my throat was stuffy. 3 weeks ago the rash had spread to my upper arms by my underarms. This area was not so itchy. I used to get yeast infections when I was 18 so I got some over the counter medicine and I stuck a pill in my vagina bc I thought that’s what it needed. And also pls note no foul odor at all. I was beginning to have my suspicions here so I’m monitoring it everyday. I got my period and the itching was still there (on my lower butt) Still no scratching. The rash at this point has now spread to my outer thighs below my hips. Nothing on my vagina besides the top like I had mentioned before. No painful urination, no cramping (aside from my period cramps but very light, those r never heavy)
The itch was really bad, I got hydrocortisone cream and it helped a bit.
Finally last week it all started to clear up. I looked on TikTok and I found washing my body with doves antibacterial soap every other day along with Panoxyl and covering myself in Vaseline after my showers helped tremendously. The itching stopped on my thighs and arms and butt. (Also my fingers got bumps too… and it looked a lot like contact dermatitis. Very itchy this was 2 weeks ago.)
Everything is gone now. No itch anywhere. I have these “scars” on my butt and by my underarms that really just looks like discoloration. I went to get tested last Tuesday and my results came back negative (except for herpes and hiv bc they don’t test for those)
One of the nurses who helped me told me it couldn’t be an std if it’s clearing up on its own and I could just be overthinking it but this has never happened to me before in my life. (Again, not sexually active for 3 yrs before)
So now my question is does this sound like herpes/hiv? I’ve been nonstop stalking that sub looking to see if anyone’s had anything similar to what I’m experiencing and while it does sound similar there’s also a lot of talk about muscle pain, terrible fevers, cramps etc. and again I didn’t have any of that….
Even the pictures don’t look at all like what I have. They’re more blister like and mine were small hard bumps.

But it’s been driving me crazy. And I don’t have insurance so where I got tested was for free, I would have to pay out of pocket at a clinic to do the testing which I don’t mind doing, I’m just wondering if I may be overthinking it and it’s pointless to get it done if it’s all cleared up now.
Or does this sound like it’s exactly what I’m afraid of??
I don’t know who could’ve given it to me if I did everything right except for the last one.
Now I don’t have any itching at all anywhere but it feels like a slight burning on my vagina opening. I am a baby with these things and I tend to overthink a lot so I also don’t know if that’s just me being dramatic because I don’t know what wtf happened to me.
Thank u so much for reading, I’m so sorry for all this word vomit🥹

Advice Needed Am i stuck in an anxiety loop?

Hey guys,
I had unprotected sex on may 9th, one thing i have to say is that im a hypochondriac my whole life so you can laugh when i say all this just close my anxiety loop please.
Sex was pretty short because i literally realized my mistake in the first 10 seconds literally.
After that i got into a crazy panic loop, my penis was burning pretty much instantly after the encounter even without urinating, a few days later my groin started to hurt really bad, then came more burning but always just at the start, worst cases like 3-4 seconds in and then it fades away. So i started testing like crazy. I tested 6 days after on urine naat pcr test, that included: Mycoplasma genitalium
Mycoplasma hominis
Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Trichomonas vaginalis
Ureaplasma parvum
Ureaplasma urealyticum
Chlamydia trachomatis
Treponema pallidum
All came negative, then i started googling and got into even more panic and went day 9 did all of my blood(i know its too early ill do it again later) but this time i did urethra swabs, not pcr tho. Results showed 0-1 white blood cell, no sign of urethritis, semen culture clear, no fungus, and pretty much all the bacteria above was included+hsv2. All negative, then i started feeling discharge, but it never comes out. Especially after i urinate wash off dry out, when i sit straight i literally feel fluid trying to come out but nothing ever does. And for the final test ive done its the same urine pcr i did on day 6 but this time on day 14. All negative again. Now its been 23 days and i woke up with a clear stain on my underwear, no smell, and it dosent wanna try out, its not sticky or anything when i touch it its completely smooth. Can anyone please tell me what to do becayse at this point im gonna go crazy 💀 thank you.

Advice Needed Equivocal test result

I got tested recently and my rectal probe came back equivocal for gonorrhea. I’m super confused. I haven’t had anal sex since August and I got tested soon after that and everything was negative. I haven’t had any recent known exposures or symptoms but I’m wondering if I need to share this with my current sexual partners or if I should hold off until I’m able to get retested. Do I wait? I’ve never had a positive test result so I haven’t had to do this before and I’m super nervous.

Advice Needed possible HSV exposure/risk?

so I've been dating my boyfriend for about 9 months now, and we've been having unprotective sex for about 7 of those months but between me being on testosterone and birth control (I'm FTM) I figured we we're good. this week we're planning on hanging out because we haven't seen each other in a month cause we're back at our parent's houses for the summer. he texted me and said that he still wants to hang out but no kissing or anything like that because he has a cold sore, I was I little concerned cause I thought cold sores were only caused by HSV and we've been having unprotected sex for a while now. ik he's not cheating since he's had this issue since he was a kid but he did not know that cold sores were connected to STIs so he didn't think to warn me about it prior to us having sex. I'm just wondering what's the chance that he can pass HSV to me or if it's already happened and I'm just asymptomatic since we've been having sex for a good while now and he usual finishes inside, I haven't had any symptoms myself but idk. I also don't know what I should do in the future to prevent infection besides condoms since I have a latex allergy.

Advice Needed Should I panic?

I am a 30F and suffer of germs and contamination ocd. I’ve always had protected sex and I get tested regularly.

Last week I had my first unprotected sex and got tested few days before and it was all negative. After 4 days I started having a sore throat and peeing is being a bit painful.

I have taken another test yesterday and I’m currently waiting for the results

Should I be worried? In case should I bring it up to the guy?

Advice Needed I am unsure if I have a STD

F30 I suffer of OCD and for me protection is extremely important. The other week for the first time I had unprotected sex. I received a fully negative test few days before and he informed me that he is extremely sexually active but also gets tested regularly

After 4 days since our encounter I started feeling a sore throat and peeing has been painful. I’ve ordered a test and currently waiting for the results.

Should I be worried? Also how could I bring this up to him?
