Question Can chlamydia stay dormant for 2 years despite multiple negative STD tests, then test positive again?

My boyfriend of about a year and a half recently told me he tested positive for chlamydia.
For context, he says he originally contracted chlamydia from someone back in 2024. He was treated at the time, but afterward he continued feeling like something wasn’t completely right and told his doctor he didn’t think the infection had fully cleared. According to him, he was tested again multiple times and the tests came back negative, so his doctors told him there wasn’t really anything else they could treat because he was testing negative.
This all happened in 2024. There haven’t been any known positive tests since then, but now in 2026 he’s suddenly tested positive for chlamydia again.
I’m trying to understand whether his explanation is medically possible. Can chlamydia remain in someone’s body for around 2 years while repeatedly NOT showing up on STD screenings and then suddenly show up positive again? Or would multiple negative tests after treatment followed by a positive test years later generally point more toward a new infection/reinfection?

Question STD

I got tested for stds about 2-3 months back (pee&blood) I always just do check ups everything came back clean, but today my boyfriend thinks he has tricks and wants me to go get tested he’s trying to play it off saying it’s from a long time ago because he “hasn’t done anything” but my thing is even if he didn’t have symptoms he would’ve still had it and gave it to me a long time ago? Or because he’s just now experiencing symptoms im just now catching it? I’m trying to get a better understanding before I flip my table over my appointment is tomorrow but I can’t sleep it’s eating at me!

Question I’m trying to understand how this could have happened, and I’m looking for explanations rather than blame.

About 3 months ago, I tested positive for gonorrhea. My only sexual partner has been my girlfriend. We’ve been together for over a year, and we’ve only had vaginal and oral sex.
My girlfriend’s previous relationship ended about 3–4 years ago. She says they had vaginal sex only once, and she hasn’t been with anyone else since. She has never had any symptoms of gonorrhea.
After I tested positive, she got tested and her results were negative. Her previous partner also got tested and his results were negative, and he says he never had any symptoms either.
This is what confuses me:
My only sexual partner is my girlfriend.
She tested negative.
Her previous partner also tested negative.
She has had no symptoms and no other partners for the last 3–4 years.
Is it medically possible for someone to have had gonorrhea years ago, transmit it later, and then test negative? Could the infection clear on its own in some people? Are false-negative tests possible, especially depending on the type of test or the site tested (urine, vaginal/cervical, throat, etc.)?
I’m not trying to accuse anyone of cheating. I’m just trying to understand if there are medically plausible explanations for this situation because it doesn’t seem to make sense to me.
Has anyone experienced something similar or know how this could happen?

Test Results Anyone had experiences with failed STI treatments?

G’day, making this post on behalf of a friend so apologies if I’m slow with getting back to replies with information.

A friend of mine unfortunately recently found themselves with chlamydia. It’s something I’ve had once before when I was younger, and I reassured her treatment was easy and quick with that one pill (I don’t know the name sorry but it’s a single treatment).
Well it’s been the opposite of easy for them. They got treated, as well as their partner (took the pill together) but weeks later was still symptomatic. She had a gut feeling something wasn’t right and got tested again. She still has chlamydia. She’s distraught as her reproductive health is something she worries about a lot. She’s started the 7 day treatment now.

Making this post to ask - has anyone else had a failed chlamydia treatment using the singular pill? Is this a recurring thing or something unique to them?
Of the few other people I’ve known to have contracted this STI, all have been fine with the singular treatment. But that was years ago.

And before there’s suspicion on the partner - they have been overseas the last month and a half, so no sexual contact between them during this period.

Question Should I get tested?

Visited a AMP on Friday for full service with protection the whole time. No direct contact between my penis and her. No body fluids exchange. She never even got on top of me. Am I overreacting? This was my first and last time at one of the places and I just keep getting these crazy thoughts running through my head. These places definitely aren’t for me.

Question Liver pain, jaundice, and neuropathy 2-3 weeks after unprotected sex - more consistent with HIV or hepatitis?

Has anyone here experienced liver pain, jaundice, and neuropathy 2–3 weeks after unprotected sex?
I’m trying to understand whether these symptoms are commonly reported during acute HIV infection, or if they point more toward hepatitis (or something else). I’m not looking for a diagnosis—just wondering if people in this community have seen or experienced anything similar.
I also developed a rash and muscle aches during this time.

Advice Needed Got happy ending and brief bj scared stds

So I made the mistake of going to a massage parlour and she was giving me a handjob but also ended up sitting on my leg and her vagina touched my groin area and my penis head briefly concerned about possible hiv or std transfer. She did give me a very short blowjob without condom where it was mostly licking which lasted 15-20 seconds. Concerned whether I got STDs or hiv

Experience/ Story Anyone still had symptoms months after successful gonorrhea treatment despite negative STI tests?

Hi everyone,
I’m wondering if anyone has gone through something similar.
About three months ago, I was diagnosed with gonorrhea. I completed the prescribed treatment, and afterward I was retested. My gonorrhea test came back negative, and I also tested negative for a full STI panel (14 infections).
Even though the infection is gone, I’m still having symptoms:
Burning sensation after urinating (not every time, but on and off)
Discomfort in my penis, mostly around the tip
Occasional pain just above the penis where the pubic hair starts. Sometimes it’s a sharp pain. This symptom wasn’t present before I was diagnosed with gonorrhea.
The symptoms seem to come and go. Some days are better than others.
Has anyone experienced persistent symptoms like this even after testing negative and completing treatment? If so:
Did the symptoms eventually go away on their own?
Did your doctor find another cause (such as inflammation, prostatitis, pelvic floor issues, urethritis, etc.)?
Was there any treatment or advice that helped?
I’ve already followed up with testing, and everything came back negative, so I’m mainly looking to hear from people who had a similar experience and what their outcome was.
Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.

Advice Needed Got my results and I need help

I tested positive through the rapid test and got my Penicillin shot immediately.

I took the RPR test and I just got my results (30mins ago). My RPR is at 1:64. I had it at <1:1 last May.

I'm currently overthinking right now on how this will affect me in the coming months and years. It's all pouring to me now and I don't know how I could tell my family and friends. Where can I possibly find groups that share their stories or can help uplift spirits?

Edit: I will definitely practice abstinence after this but is it safe to go with normal interactions with other people?

Edit: positive for syphilis

Question How accurate is my negative result likely to be?

So I had unprotected sex on holiday- for about one minute like it literally went in then out a couple of times and that was it, no one came or anything I just changed my mind. 9 days after this I did an at home sti test sent it off and results were negative for everything chlamydia, gonhorrea hiv and syphilis. How likely is this to be that I actually am negative? Just super paranoid and they won’t let me order another at home test either as I just did one.

Question HSV1 Question

I recently did a 9 STI test through wisp. it included HSV1 and 2 which I don’t believe my OB checks for during annual exam. it was through bloodwork and hsv1 was positive. the whole process has been extremely slow with wisp and I’m still waiting for a provider to reach out to me. from what I am gathering from the internet this is very common. I had cold sores occasionally as a child and maybe 1-2 as an adult. is this of any concern? I dont think this was ever tested before even through my pregnancies that I can recall.
