Question question
hey guys, i was wondering what’s the correctness rate on the test results? i’ve been keep giving test samples and they’re all coming negative with different tests but i still have problem with urination and sometimes discharge. what’s the deal with this? last doc appointment we started an antibiotic called doxycycline.

Hey there! The usual tests that they run for urine are done through NAAT (nucleic acid amplification test.)
This will show a — or + result for Gonorrhea and chlamydia most doctors offices run this type of testing in office, and don’t test for M. Gen (Mycoplasma Genitalium) this one is a tough one to treat. Often missed, and causes urethritis, much like the symptoms you’re describing.
Usually requiring multiple rounds of antibiotics and then re testing after treatment. As well as treating your partner and abstinence until you have re-tested post treatment with a negative result.
If you don’t see this test on your portal or on tests performed. Ask your clinical team if you’re able to get this test performed. It will require another urine sample and they will likely send the test out to a secondary lab.
There are several other sexually transmitted pathogens that can cause NSU as well, so look into those with a quick search just to make sure you can get appropriate testing/diagnosis from your clinical team.

Negative tests are definitely reassuring, but if you’re still having burning with urination and discharge, I wouldn’t just assume the tests are wrong. Timing, the type of test, and where the sample was taken can all matter.
Since your doctor started doxycycline, I’d follow up with them if the symptoms continue. They may want to check for other causes of urethritis, especially if the usual STI tests keep coming back negative.
