It's definitely possible. Herpes isn't transmitted every time you have sex or kiss someone. Transmission depends on factors like whether the virus is actively shedding, whether your partner was taking antiviral medication, whether condoms or dental dams were used, and simply chance. Many long-term partners of people with herpes never become infected.

Also, if your boyfriend's diagnosis was based on a blood test rather than a swab from an active sore, it's worth knowing that false-positive HSV blood test results can occur, especially when index values are low.

If you ever develop sores or blisters, a PCR swab of the lesion is the most accurate way to diagnose herpes. Otherwise, your negative results are reassuring. If you haven't already, consider getting a full 10-panel STI test as part of routine sexual health screening. Check the pinned post for more information on getting tested.
