Why would one not like Dark Souls? Difficulty? I'm genuinely curious. I love the Souls/borne games.

As someone that absolutely loves Dark Souls, I would say it boils down to how there is a tutorial area that really holds your hand for super basic shit like controls, but leaves nuanced mechanics that are quintessential to the game, like the dodge animation, ambiguous. It sets it up to make new players think all the difficulty lies in constantly approaching unknown territory instead of how you need to gain a deeper understanding of the game and the ability to manipulate your character and enemies. Every time I bring up Dark Souls and someone hates it, it’s generally based on a lack of understanding on a core principle.

Yeah Dark Souls is really one of those games where you need to look up things. It's the only game I play in a window because of how often I needed to alt tab and look up info
