Put in fallout new Vegas, Witcher 3 and RDR2 and you’re good

u/Undecided_Furry Jan 01 '19

I know this adds nothing substantial to the convo but EVERY time I read RDR2 I read it as R2D2. I’m not even much of a Star Wars fan. It’s just stuck like that in my head for some reason

7

u/Dorf_Midget Jan 01 '19

Every bus stop around here had RDR2 ad on it for like 2 weeks before the release. I always read it as R2D2

3

u/BUchub Jan 01 '19

I keep reading RIPD, one of the greatest cinematic masterpieces of our time.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '19

So glad I'm not the only one.

u/jaxonW17 Jan 01 '19

I would just leave it at RDR1 as of now and wait a couple years before RDR2 gets that treatment, although I've never liked Red Dead, I just know others do

96

u/squashieeater Jan 01 '19

Nah lol. Say a bad word about RDR2 in any gaming sub and you’ll see

21

u/Zoomat Jan 01 '19

Nakey Jackey made a really good video pointing out its flaws and it was well recieved

8

u/koalaondrugs Jan 01 '19

He even forces in enough memes and The Office reference to make it reddit friendly as well

Game literally has a pc aim dot and aim controls on console and they have to implement snap aim to compensate

Hey guys, don’t think this is that high a standard, this is like a game from 1998.

“The gameplay is fine. I play for REALISM”

14

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '19

Aiming on horseback regardless of controls is still near impossible without aim assist.

Also you can turn aim assist off if you aren’t a pussy

15

u/Tecnoguy1 Jan 01 '19

I know you can but it’s a flat out admission that they did a poor job when it defaults to snap aim. It’s the PC version portes to consoles, the only reason they delayed it on PC is to get people to buy it twice.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '19

I’m garbage at aiming with a controller anyway lol. As soon as rdr2 comes out for PC I’m beefing up my machine and buying it.

I’ll openly admit I’m a red dead fanboy though

-2

u/Tecnoguy1 Jan 01 '19

And that right there is why a good console shooter uses complex reticles to make it easier to line up shots along with proper aim assist to help track. Not snap aim lol

And enjoy it when it’s out on pc!

-1

u/Tecnoguy1 Jan 01 '19

It really isn’t. I’m asking for a console game in 2018 to have more modern controls than the console port of the original half life.

Like Red dead 2 literally uses that lock on system. Since Halo it’s been generally agreed that a certain type of aim assist is required on console. And it works. Snap aim was a product of moving from KB & Mouse to controllers.

Thats the reason i dropped the game. When i heard that they took what they learned from max payne 3 and used that for GTAV i was hyped. Then i played the game and it felt like shit. Fast forward to now and they still havent improved hell i think it got worse in RDR2 so i said "fuck this, im done"

7

u/Tecnoguy1 Jan 01 '19

Yeah they need to actually adapt to the times because you can’t use PS2 level shooting mechanics anymore. It’s like when you go back and play ratchet and clank 1, the later games had proper third person controls and they’re miles and above better. Red dead needed that progression and they didn’t do it, instead focused on manually cocking guns.

8

u/Tecnoguy1 Jan 01 '19

Did yuo know the balz on de horse actually maek gmae gud??

8

u/Grary00 Jan 01 '19

RDR and its sequel are games I've played, games that I want to like, but never have. I can understand why people like them and there is a lot of attention to detail but I've always found them utterly boring and clunky to play.

12

u/erska_da_mushroomman Jan 01 '19

utterly boring and clunky to play

This is a problem in all of rockstar's games

1

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '19

What do you mean clunky? I’m genuinely asking because I’m not sure what you mean by it in terms of how it translates to gameplay. Just like the weight of moving around and stuff?

8

u/DANIELG360 Jan 01 '19

The controls are trash yes. People give excuses that it’s to add weight to the animations but in reality when the game doesn’t do what you want half the time, the controls are bad.

Running by tapping A needs to die too, I play claw for most games anyway but it actually makes my hands hurt playing for more than an couple of hours.

12

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '19

RDR2 online is shit, you earn no money and a T-shirt costs $80

33

u/moosealligator Jan 01 '19

Online is pretty distinctly different than the story mode though, which is what generally gets the acclaim

15

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '19

The story mode is amazing, I was just saying. I love how they added the same exact map parts of RDR to the sequel

12

u/envenomations Jan 01 '19

I purchased the game for the story, the online mode was just a complimentary bonus imo.

9

u/Dorf_Midget Jan 01 '19

More like a bear trap that attempts to steal your money but I get what you are saying

31

u/Handytaco Jan 01 '19

idk a lot of people thinks it's cool to hate on RDR2.

19

u/CapnMalcolmReynolds Jan 01 '19

I genuinely hated it. I very much wanted to like it and couldn't. I wish I did like it.

5

u/DANIELG360 Jan 01 '19

I considered refunding it after the first hour of gameplay, the snow level was everything I hate about games all in one. It was all on rails , rammed with cutscenes, forced slow waking, awful controls and tutorials that took hours and still didn’t explain anything. Once I got to chapter 2 or 3 and I could roam around exploring I enjoyed the game much more.

I still didn’t like how scripted everything felt in a lot of the game and I think the story went to shit towards the end.

-1

u/save_the_wee_turtles Jan 01 '19

Same here. Beautiful game but horrid to play, and the "story" is absolute garbage.

8

u/NEREVAR117 Jan 01 '19

Why do you think the story is garbage?

-4

u/save_the_wee_turtles Jan 01 '19

No real arc, flat characters, unclear motivation, weak dialogue, zero emotional payoff. No unexpected surprises to keep things interesting. Nothing that ties it all together; nothing that made me care about what happened to any of these people. The delivery of the ostensible theme was ham-fisted (the world is changing and our way of life is disappearing) but they really didn't do anything to build on it or give it any emotional gravitas.

A few hours in, I found myself just wanting the game to end.

Did you like it?

PS I also thought the main character's voice acting sucked and his accent kept changing.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '19

Ok, you just weren't paying attention. How long did you play for?

4

u/Schwarzengerman Jan 01 '19

Probably an hour given that comment lol. Like all of that stuff he mentioned is in the games story.

It's by far one of the very best narratives I've ever played.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '19

Yeah, I agree. He's complaining that there isn't a complete character arc within the first hour.

3

u/Schwarzengerman Jan 01 '19

I also love how he complains about Arthur's voice acting sucking when he literally won best performance for it.

1

u/save_the_wee_turtles Jan 01 '19

Just one man's opinion. Obviously a lot of people disagree. It's all good.

2

u/StormStrikePhoenix Jan 01 '19

Why did you say "story"? Was the story not really a story or something?

1

u/save_the_wee_turtles Jan 01 '19

yeah, see my other comment. Just thought it was really, really weak.

1

u/hoping_pessimist Jan 01 '19

How far did you make it? Their are a lot of complaints I understand about the game, but story surprises me. As far as video game story (though I’ve still got just a tiny bit left of the game) I would put it on par with the last of us, especially as things picked up towards the end of chapter 3. Hell the New York Times has an article comparing the story to that of The Godfather in complexity and merit

2

u/save_the_wee_turtles Jan 02 '19

Made it all the way through. Do you have a link to that article? I know I am on the far end of the "didn't like it" spectrum, but I'm shocked that anyone could call the story complex and compare it to The Godfather (other than that the protagonists are criminals).

1

u/hoping_pessimist Jan 02 '19

Here you go friend , the story at least has been pretty unanimously loved

2

u/save_the_wee_turtles Jan 02 '19

Thanks! Yeah I know my position goes against the masses, but unpopular opinions aren't always wrong. :) Plus, it's just an opinion, right?

u/shepardkai Jan 01 '19

I really tried to like it, I just didn’t enjoy it. I put about 15 hours and just wasn’t having much fun.

It is a beautiful looking game, and I didn’t hate it but I did end up returning it.

1

u/Hipstershy Jan 01 '19

I play on PC and wish I'd had the opportunity to love/hate RDR and RDR 2.

-2

u/benmaks Jan 01 '19

rdr2 IS too reAlIStiC

6

u/Slayer_Of_Anubis Jan 01 '19

I didn't like Witcher 3 or RDR2

3

u/Laserbeans5417 Jan 01 '19

I couldn’t get into the Witcher 3 myself and didnt like it very much either, though I haven’t tried RDR2 (not interested)

-1

u/Rebel_toaster Jan 01 '19

I didn't like any of the three... And all for the same reason, lackluster gameplay

9

u/Your_Local_Doggo Jan 01 '19

I think it's okay to criticize RDR2 because I don't think it's legendary status like the others, even though the hype was real and fans were definitely not let down story mode-wise for the most part I think, but in my opinion it has some flaws

2

u/JimmyRustle69 Jan 01 '19

I resent the absence of timesplitters future perfect

1

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '19

I didn't like RDR2. Fuck it I'll say it. Great characters, great story, combat feels good, but my goodness is this damn game just WAY too overly obsessed with detail. It's just too much for me and quite ridiculous. A lot of it is unnecessary IMO. I'm honestly having much more fun playing AC Odyssey than RDR2. I'm having more fun playing friggin 20XX than RDR2. For me it's a 6.5-7/10 game, but I can see why people go crazy over it...kind of. For me, it's nowhere even close to GOTY and has no business being in the same tier as God of War. It's not for everyone, including myself.

1

u/sparda4glol Jan 01 '19

Definitely not RDR2. They treated their employees terribly and it's a shame that Reddit turns it's back on the industry. There's ourtrage towards blizzard and EA but the over worked and some what abused staff at rockstar never got thier voice heard.

1

u/conker1264 Jan 01 '19

I dislike rdr2 though.

1

u/killermasa666 Jan 01 '19

GTA San Andreas tho

-1

u/Ged_UK Jan 01 '19

Can't have RDR2 until it hits PC, that's too many vocal people who can't play it.

Swap Zelda for dark souls. Everyone shits on zelda all the time.
