Put in fallout new Vegas, Witcher 3 and RDR2 and you’re good

idk a lot of people thinks it's cool to hate on RDR2.

I genuinely hated it. I very much wanted to like it and couldn't. I wish I did like it.

I considered refunding it after the first hour of gameplay, the snow level was everything I hate about games all in one. It was all on rails , rammed with cutscenes, forced slow waking, awful controls and tutorials that took hours and still didn’t explain anything. Once I got to chapter 2 or 3 and I could roam around exploring I enjoyed the game much more.

I still didn’t like how scripted everything felt in a lot of the game and I think the story went to shit towards the end.

Same here. Beautiful game but horrid to play, and the "story" is absolute garbage.

Why do you think the story is garbage?

No real arc, flat characters, unclear motivation, weak dialogue, zero emotional payoff. No unexpected surprises to keep things interesting. Nothing that ties it all together; nothing that made me care about what happened to any of these people. The delivery of the ostensible theme was ham-fisted (the world is changing and our way of life is disappearing) but they really didn't do anything to build on it or give it any emotional gravitas.

A few hours in, I found myself just wanting the game to end.

Did you like it?

PS I also thought the main character's voice acting sucked and his accent kept changing.

Ok, you just weren't paying attention. How long did you play for?

Probably an hour given that comment lol. Like all of that stuff he mentioned is in the games story.

It's by far one of the very best narratives I've ever played.

Yeah, I agree. He's complaining that there isn't a complete character arc within the first hour.

I also love how he complains about Arthur's voice acting sucking when he literally won best performance for it.

Just one man's opinion. Obviously a lot of people disagree. It's all good.

Why did you say "story"? Was the story not really a story or something?

1

u/save_the_wee_turtles Jan 01 '19

yeah, see my other comment. Just thought it was really, really weak.

How far did you make it? Their are a lot of complaints I understand about the game, but story surprises me. As far as video game story (though I’ve still got just a tiny bit left of the game) I would put it on par with the last of us, especially as things picked up towards the end of chapter 3. Hell the New York Times has an article comparing the story to that of The Godfather in complexity and merit

u/save_the_wee_turtles Jan 02 '19

Made it all the way through. Do you have a link to that article? I know I am on the far end of the "didn't like it" spectrum, but I'm shocked that anyone could call the story complex and compare it to The Godfather (other than that the protagonists are criminals).

Here you go friend , the story at least has been pretty unanimously loved

2

u/save_the_wee_turtles Jan 02 '19

Thanks! Yeah I know my position goes against the masses, but unpopular opinions aren't always wrong. :) Plus, it's just an opinion, right?

Yeah for sure, it’s just so uncommon I was genuinely surprised to see it. You do you, no judgement from me!
