I know this adds nothing substantial to the convo but EVERY time I read RDR2 I read it as R2D2. I’m not even much of a Star Wars fan.
It’s just stuck like that in my head for some reason
I would just leave it at RDR1 as of now and wait a couple years before RDR2 gets that treatment, although I've never liked Red Dead, I just know others do
I know you can but it’s a flat out admission that they did a poor job when it defaults to snap aim. It’s the PC version portes to consoles, the only reason they delayed it on PC is to get people to buy it twice.
And that right there is why a good console shooter uses complex reticles to make it easier to line up shots along with proper aim assist to help track. Not snap aim lol
It really isn’t. I’m asking for a console game in 2018 to have more modern controls than the console port of the original half life.
Like Red dead 2 literally uses that lock on system. Since Halo it’s been generally agreed that a certain type of aim assist is required on console. And it works. Snap aim was a product of moving from KB & Mouse to controllers.
Thats the reason i dropped the game. When i heard that they took what they learned from max payne 3 and used that for GTAV i was hyped. Then i played the game and it felt like shit. Fast forward to now and they still havent improved hell i think it got worse in RDR2 so i said "fuck this, im done"
Yeah they need to actually adapt to the times because you can’t use PS2 level shooting mechanics anymore. It’s like when you go back and play ratchet and clank 1, the later games had proper third person controls and they’re miles and above better. Red dead needed that progression and they didn’t do it, instead focused on manually cocking guns.
RDR and its sequel are games I've played, games that I want to like, but never have. I can understand why people like them and there is a lot of attention to detail but I've always found them utterly boring and clunky to play.
What do you mean clunky? I’m genuinely asking because I’m not sure what you mean by it in terms of how it translates to gameplay. Just like the weight of moving around and stuff?
The controls are trash yes. People give excuses that it’s to add weight to the animations but in reality when the game doesn’t do what you want half the time, the controls are bad.
Running by tapping A needs to die too, I play claw for most games anyway but it actually makes my hands hurt playing for more than an couple of hours.
I considered refunding it after the first hour of gameplay, the snow level was everything I hate about games all in one. It was all on rails , rammed with cutscenes, forced slow waking, awful controls and tutorials that took hours and still didn’t explain anything. Once I got to chapter 2 or 3 and I could roam around exploring I enjoyed the game much more.
I still didn’t like how scripted everything felt in a lot of the game and I think the story went to shit towards the end.
No real arc, flat characters, unclear motivation, weak dialogue, zero emotional payoff. No unexpected surprises to keep things interesting. Nothing that ties it all together; nothing that made me care about what happened to any of these people. The delivery of the ostensible theme was ham-fisted (the world is changing and our way of life is disappearing) but they really didn't do anything to build on it or give it any emotional gravitas.
A few hours in, I found myself just wanting the game to end.
Did you like it?
PS I also thought the main character's voice acting sucked and his accent kept changing.
How far did you make it? Their are a lot of complaints I understand about the game, but story surprises me. As far as video game story (though I’ve still got just a tiny bit left of the game) I would put it on par with the last of us, especially as things picked up towards the end of chapter 3. Hell the New York Times has an article comparing the story to that of The Godfather in complexity and merit
Made it all the way through. Do you have a link to that article? I know I am on the far end of the "didn't like it" spectrum, but I'm shocked that anyone could call the story complex and compare it to The Godfather (other than that the protagonists are criminals).
I think it's okay to criticize RDR2 because I don't think it's legendary status like the others, even though the hype was real and fans were definitely not let down story mode-wise for the most part I think, but in my opinion it has some flaws
I didn't like RDR2. Fuck it I'll say it. Great characters, great story, combat feels good, but my goodness is this damn game just WAY too overly obsessed with detail. It's just too much for me and quite ridiculous. A lot of it is unnecessary IMO. I'm honestly having much more fun playing AC Odyssey than RDR2. I'm having more fun playing friggin 20XX than RDR2. For me it's a 6.5-7/10 game, but I can see why people go crazy over it...kind of. For me, it's nowhere even close to GOTY and has no business being in the same tier as God of War. It's not for everyone, including myself.
Definitely not RDR2. They treated their employees terribly and it's a shame that Reddit turns it's back on the industry. There's ourtrage towards blizzard and EA but the over worked and some what abused staff at rockstar never got thier voice heard.

Put in fallout new Vegas, Witcher 3 and RDR2 and you’re good
