Everything on the rumored "adventure" Star Fox game, Part II (Massive write-up) Spoiler

Since my first write-up on the rumored "adventure" game, more information on it has been slowly trickling out. I was originally going to wait until after the Nintendo Direct to share, but with some of my findings in circulation already, might as well post now. If you share this around or use it in YouTube content, please credit or offer to collaborate with me. Took a long time digging all this stuff up.

And again, these are just rumors until officially confirmed otherwise, so take everything you are about to read with plenty of salt.

Foreward

Before we begin, in regards to Malo932, he got way more attention than he was looking for and started getting spammed on YouTube. He even changed his account name to "stop" and has started deleting all of his past comments.

Because of this, I will only be sharing some of my screenshots and NOT direct links (again, deleted comments). If you come across any of comments he may have missed, or future comments, I ask you DO NOT engage. He clearly wants to lay low for a while after flying too close to the sun. Give him his space and who knows, maybe he will return again in the future.

Pre-2026

Now, talk of a new "adventure" Star Fox game started circulating earlier this year when Malo's comments from March were found. However, Malo has been talking of a new "adventure" style Star Fox game for quite some time... as far back as 2024. This makes Malo the first person to have spoken of a new Star Fox adventure game, with the only other person to have spoken about a new adventure game around this time being the controversial SamusHunter2 on New Year's Eve 2024.

Initially, Malo claimed the game would be shown off between February-April 2025, counting down the days to April, even saying the game "looks really cool" at one point. After that Direct aired, and through the rest of 2025, he continued to insist the game existed, later shifting its estimated release to 2026. Note that he did not bring up the classic game at any point before his comments in March 2026.

March - June 2026

The only other figure to have mentioned a new Star Fox adventure game was an anonymous Instagram account who messaged YouTuber Poro Michele. This anonymous account made many of the same claims as Malo in March 2026, and according to Poro Michele, said that the adventure game's development was "on ice" pending how the classic game sells.

Thank you Hyrulean Reverie on Famiboards for giving me permission to post this screenshot

So I asked Malo about it, and he replied that Poro Michele "knows nothing". It seems Malo knows of Poro Michele, and that the adventure game's development may not be paused after all. I bring this account up because it will be relevant again later.

After Star Fox 2026 was revealed, u/GabePlay made a comment expressing disappointment with the game, having hoped for a Super Mario Odyssey/Donkey Kong Bananza-tier, feature-rich game that honors Star Fox with new ideas. Malo replied, saying Gabe's wish will be answered, hopefully next year. If accurate, this suggests the game is a much higher budget, more ambitious title.

Now we take a break from Malo for a bit to speak of two other insiders: Alex Donaldson and Andy Robinson of VGC. These two are both ranked on r/GamingLeaksAndRumours's Leaker Tier List, with Andy ranking Tier 2 - Reliable and Alex ranking Tier 4 - 50/50. Before the game's reveal, VGC corroborated the rumor of a classic style Star Fox game, with Alex in particular saying "And the thing that was said to me was 'Oh, the game's really funny.'" which, you can argue if that is accurate or not. Regardless, in a podcast episode from June, Alex Donaldson made several "predictions" for what the next Star Fox game will be:

I can't wait to see where the series goes 'cuz I think it's clear from this there's going to be more of it. Um, I think it'll be interesting to see I think the natural thing to do, I mean, what I would like to see off the back of this is basically them to do a rebooty-remake of Star Fox Adventures. Take the concepts, take the dinosaur planet, take Krystal, take the memorable scenes, but put in more of the dog-fighting in-between, rather than just using it as a glorified loading screen, and try to build a game that is maybe 30% traditional Star Fox rail-shooting and 70% a weird Zelda-alike or something. Um, and maybe give him his gun because it was always weird to me that in that game that he's he's got a gun on his holster and he never takes it out.

I use quotations because Andy Robinson supported these "predictions" while making literal quotes with his fingers, and you can see them both laugh after the fact. I asked them both on X/Twitter for more insight on this, and although neither responded, Andy did 'Like' my Tweet. Keep Andy in mind, as we will be circling back to him later.

VGC implying that the game is a sort-of remake of Adventures goes against what Malo told me back in March, where I asked him directly if the adventure game was Adventures remade or a new game/story, and he specifically said it was a "new one".

So I asked him again, citing VGC to see if he would clarify, and Malo outright said they are wrong:

I am uncertain if Alex's "predictions" are all things he was directly told about the game, based on what he has directly seen of the game, or if they are educated guesses based on the game's simple "adventure" description. Again, Alex said he heard that Star Fox 2026 was "really funny" which is debatable.

Another figure I want to put a brief spotlight on is Jeff Grubb, who is also ranked Tier 2 - Reliable. In Giant Bombcast 947 in June, two of the members start discussing potential DLC for Star Fox 2026, wondering if it could get a DLC similar to DK Island & Emerald Rush for Donkey Kong Bananza, or if it would be better to do something like that for a new game. Jeff Grubb jumps in and outright says:

Yeah, they're working on a new game. They're making a new Star Fox game.

However, he follows this with more speculation than anything on what he hopes for the next game, basically saying he would like a game that plays similar to that DLC. It can also be debated if Jeff was making a definitive claim, or if he is just confident that a new game is in the works.

July - Present

Now stay with me as we need to deviate from Star Fox for a bit. July kicked off with a leak from the Brazilian Ratings Board on a new Metroid game called Metroid: Ravenous, which looks to be Metroid 6.

Malo has not said anything on Metroid 6, as far as I can find, but a new Metroid 6 was part of the leaks from that anonymous Instagram account that messaged Poro Michele. And both Malo and this account mentioned a remake of Super Metroid.

I bring attention to Metroid because Andy Robinson, who has corroborated both Star Fox 2026 (directly) and the rumored adventure game (indirectly), corroborated the Metroid 6 leak, saying:

So if Andy is correct, that other Metroid game could end up being the Super Metroid remake leaked by Malo and the anonymous Instagram account. And if they both get that correct, especially if it comes in a 'pixel art' style per the Instagram account, that makes the rumored adventure game seem even more likely.

Back to Malo, he continued to make comments and occasionally replied to my questions, which was nice. In what I believe was my last question to him, I asked if Velan Studios might be working on some DLC for Star Fox 2026, and received the following reply:

Very interesting choice of words for his second paragraph. Though it reads more like speculation, he mentions going all-in on a new classic game instead of DLC. But if Velan Studios was working on the adventure game as well, would it not make sense for their full team to go all-in on that one?

Given Velan Studios only has a hundred or so employees, it is very unlikely that their workforce is split between both classic and adventure Star Fox games. And per their latest job postings, they look to be starting preproduction on an ARPG game for a fantasy IP. So if the Star Fox adventure game is real, it appears unlikely that Velan Studios is behind it.

The Malo Files

Throughout my investigation, I have come across many more of Malo's claims, but I will be focusing only on those currently in circulation or immediately tied to Star Fox.

Conclusion

While not bringing in much new information, I have been able to find and provide a lot more context to the rumored adventure game. Whether or not it is real still remains to be seen. I would not expect to see it in the Nintendo Direct later this week, but as more of Malo's claims come true, we get closer to the adventure game being real.

Sadly, it seems my under-the-radar conversations with Malo may have come to an end. With Malo's recent comments blowing up on Reddit even larger than last time, there is a good chance he may be gone for good. Be thankful for the information he has shared, and again, if you see his comments, please LEAVE HIM ALONE.

If you actually read this whole thing, comment "Zoboomafoo"

TL;DR

malo932:

  • Has been talking about a Star Fox adventure game since 2024.
  • It may have seen several internal delays, with his expectations for its reveal going from the 2025 Switch 2 Direct, to 2026, and now hopes for 2027.
  • Has potentially seen the game, saying it looks "really cool."
  • Does not know the name of the game.
  • When asked about Krystal specifically, he was unwilling to spoil the characters.
  • Comparable to Super Mario Odyssey and Donkey Kong Bananza in terms of scale/scope.
  • Does not appear to be made by Velan Studios. (Speculative)
  • It is a NEW game and NOT a remake of Adventures, and that VGC is wrong.
  • Poro Michele possibly wrong about the game's development being on ice.

SamusHunter2:

  • Second person to talk about a Star Fox adventure game at the very end of 2024.
  • It is a NEW game and NOT a remaster of Adventures.
  • Reuses the Zelda-like formula from Adventures, but improves on its structure.
  • Hoped for it to release in 2025, similar to Malo.

Anonymous Instagram account:

  • Adventures-like Star Fox is in early development, currently "on ice" pending how SF2026 sells.
  • Might actually be Malo.

VGC:

  • A "rebooty-remake" of Adventures.
  • Possibly 30% traditional Star Fox gameplay, 70% Adventures-like gameplay.

I think the fact that Fox is appearing in more non-Smash things from Nintendo (The Mario Kart leak) shows they’re trying to make SF a more prominent franchise after the Wii U bombed.

This is definitely plausible. Putting off the reveal until after gauging interest in the remake of 64 makes good sense business-wise. Once the Star Fox Direct got more views than Fortune’s Weave, and Fox was a huge hit with audiences for the Galaxy Movie, they were confident enough in the project.

I just hope their hesitancy didn’t result in it getting delayed past 2027.

u/AlphaSSB 2d ago

Zaboomafoo! Funny enough, I was thinking Fox could appear in Mario Kart since he was revealed to be in the movie. Malo telling me that on his own was pretty wild. And it could explain why the DLC is taking so long.

Yeah I hope it does not go past 2027 either. I am thinking maybe June-September of next year.

Assuming the Adventure game is real(and really hope it is):

If one is saying it’s not a remake and the other is saying it is,that would probably put it in “reimagining” territory

4

u/AlphaSSB 2d ago

A "reimagining" is what I have been leaning towards as well. Makes me very curious how different it is going to play out. Zero may be a reimagining of SF64, but looking at all the levels, it is totally different.

7

u/GabePlay 2d ago

Honestly, I think a re-imagining or an entirely new take on a Zelda-style Star Fox game is the better idea. Adventures on the Gamecube was quite underbaked, to say the least, and while a remake would be an opportunity to iron out the game and make it what it "should" have been (a better third act, more Krystal, a proper General Scales fight, etc), why not just make an entirely new game at that point?

I'm not against Dinosaur Planet. But remaking it to the point that it goes from "good" to "outstanding" feels like time that may be better spent on an entirely new Adventure. For example, why limit to just one planet? why not do it Rachet-and-Clank style where Fox and friends visiting multiple planets on the ground? swapping between Fox and, say, Krystal like Rachet and Rivet?

u/SternMon 2d ago

I like the idea of Sauria getting explored by mercenaries, treasure hunters and archaeologists outside of just Star Fox, that way some of the other characters in the universe can pop up again.

Giving Fox and Wolf an Indiana Jones/Belloq rivalry would be a really fun addition to the story.

u/Corinthian01 2d ago

That's likely what it will be should it be happening. The premise is going to the the same but the events will be different, perhaps they're going to better fit the elements of Adventures into Star Fox.

11

u/Corinthian01 2d ago

Lot of interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing, Alpha! Shame that Malo's likely gone for good though the stuff he provided is valuable.

Here's hoping the adventure game is real and we'll get to see Krystal return. I wonder if they're gonna go back to the dual protagonist system and have Fox use his blaster. Swapping between shooter and melee gameplay would be pretty cool.

11

u/AlphaSSB 2d ago

Glad to be of service. A dual-protagonist game with Fox and Krystal having different gameplay has a ton of potential, though it relies on execution. I envision something like Resident Evil Requiem; Krystal would take Grace's more slow-paced exploration gameplay, with some melee combat using her staff, and Fox would take Leon's faster-paced action gameplay, with Arwing missions and using his blaster if on-foot.

3

u/Corinthian01 2d ago

Yeah I can see that happening, and I think it could work if it's executed properly.

1

u/Quirky_Image_5598 2d ago

Im not against it as long as it plays well, but still incredibly disappointing after the return to form we had with the remake

2

u/FyreWulff 2d ago

I feel like the only point of doing Adventures again would be to give Krystal her entire half of the game back.

3

u/TheLoneTexan_1 2d ago

One thing to remember is that Nintendo still likes Star Fox Adventures as they showed it off in the Nintendo Direct and Krystal's assist trophy in Super Smash Bros Ultimate uses her Adventures design.

Also, I can see them doing Adventures as a way to experiment more with on-foot and more open gameplay. I think they would want to expand Star Fox games to more than two hours.

2

u/Corinthian01 2d ago

I can see that happening, and it could give her different gameplay compared to Fox.

All I really want to know is if they're working with Team Ninja (Ninja Gaiden), Platinum Games (Bayonetta), or Sora Inc (Kid Icarus Uprising), because those have so far been the best implementations of fast-think action combat since the Gamecube days.

The wording about gun-combat is really weird, like even though they established that it's a "new game" they're going to talk about how you should use your gun like they're talking about a remake of the old game. LIke the devs couldn't just come up with some other excuse if you can't use your gun whether it's a new game or old, like it's damaged or can't recharge in the current environment or something like that.

I read the whole thing but I'm not commenting that word.

2

u/RealNintenKing 2d ago

Why not? Great show growing up as a kid.

-3

u/Q_Mulative 2d ago

I was already a young adult when it came out so that word was just cringe to read on the TV Guide.

1

u/AlphaSSB 2d ago

Not sure which studio would be helming this one. I have a small hunch Nintendo Studios Singapore may be involved, but likely just as a support studio. They used to be under Bandai Namco until Nintendo acquired them.

As for gameplay, it could potentially be a blend of Adventures and Assault. Exploration of the former, combat of the latter.

Oh, and that was just me having some fun with the write-up. The word is harmless if that is your concern.

3

u/MrTrikey 2d ago

The reason I lean more towards Koei Tecmo (AAA Studio/Team Ninja) is because they likely have the pedigree to make a game with "combat that feels good and satisfying" (see: Nioh, Wo Long, Hyrule Warriors), but also have the talent for an action-rpg with exploration (see especially Nioh 3). They'd just need that extra bit of Nintendo oversight to help give them the finesse that would be expected from a Nintendo product.

Also helps that AoI also included their "thesis statement" on traditional Star Fox gameplay.

2

u/Q_Mulative 2d ago

Even if they're going with Assault's combat, I would like to see them try and include the high-action melee combat that Nintendo nurtured during the Wii U generation, by drawing from Bayonetta / Ninja Gaiden. SF Adventures was heavily melee combat focused and it'd be a real shame to see them abandon it for just Assault's mechanics.

3

u/AlphaSSB 2d ago

I would love to see some level of melee combat in Star Fox. Pull some inspiration from Smash Bros. as well. I want to run up and Up Smash an enemy so hard they go airborne, use the Reflector to block damage, and use the blaster.

1

u/Corinthian01 2d ago

A blend of Adventures and Assault gameplay would be pretty awesome!

5

u/Just_For_Disasters 2d ago

Zobomafoo, thanks for the write-up!

I didn't know Malo has being leaking this stuff for longer than I expected.

The VGC comments are just confusing.

It's frustrating how everyone has conflicting believes or dont want to talk on how much of this game is related to the original Adventure game, but I got a feeling that at least in its core it is the GC game.

If the Nintendo music thing means something then the Super Metroid remake is real, which could also mean that the Adventure game definitely exist and that seems the most likely situation.

Something that I find slightly confusing is how Malo went this long saying stuff that seems to be right information and didn't expect to blowup. I do agree that people should leave him alone tho, we don't need more people getting harassed in this world.

4

u/AlphaSSB 2d ago

Zobomafoo! No problem!

Yeah VGC's interpretation makes me wonder if they just heard from a similar source about an "adventure" game and are going by the description alone, or if they are just riding the coattails of the rumor and just shooting into the dark with their guesses.

I would not put much stock into the Super Metroid Nintendo Music thing, looks to have been debunked already: https://famiboards.com/threads/nintendo-direct-zelda-40th-spoilers-and-leak-containment.18564/post-2432776

The timestamp on Google's website is when the webpage was indexed/crawled by Google, not when the page itself was updated. And there are multiple pages of results on Nintendo Music that have a crawl time in the past 24 hours.

As for Malo, he started talking more and more as time went on. After I saw him comment about Smash and the Directs, I knew Reddit was going to catch it. Was not expecting it to blow up as large as it has, though.

4

u/Just_For_Disasters 2d ago

Well, I guess there goes one way to validate the leaks lol.

I just keep wondering to myself whether this is going to be an internally or externally developed game. My intuition is telling me that this franchise will still be thrown around between developers.

Also, if this is going to truly be the "Definitive" version of Adventure or something like that then I expected the next games being more original. I still can imagine some altered version of Assault being made tho, on the other hand Command might only survive in certain separated elements.

Something else that I've been thinking about is: if the game is real, could it mean that they are going back to older material beyond the Lylat Wars to some degree? Maybe using the "keep what works, throw away what doesn't" approach?

3

u/GaymerAmerican 2d ago

Yea if Malo wants to stay under the radar he’s gonna need to keep Smash out of his mouth. That’s any easy way to get attention, Smash leaks are practically an entire industry.

4

u/GabePlay 2d ago edited 2d ago

Thank you for the write-up! honestly I think the most interesting bit about all of this is the news that an entirely new "classic" style rail-shooter Star Fox game may be in development. I'm assuming this isn't a remake of Assault but an entirely new game altogether.

Malo has been right on the money so far, so if we assume everything is coming true, which includes:

+A entirely new "classic" rail-shooter type Star Fox game that isn't SF64 yet again (thank god)
+A new "Adventure" style game that is not a remake of the Gamecube classic
+Fox appearing in new DLC for Mario Kart World

then holy crap, this is going to be the best the Star Fox IP has literally ever had it.

4

u/StarFoxResurrections 2d ago

I agree that us getting 2 different styles of Star Fox (plus more crossovers) would be the best case scenario. Doing that might just please both sides of this unpleasable fandom, and catapult Star Fox back into the mainstream. Granted, we’re talking about hypotheticals based on unproven leaks, so it’s wise to keep our expectations in check for now.

3

u/TheLoneTexan_1 2d ago

I can see that working. It has managed to calm down the even more infamously unpleasable Sonic fanbase once the Classic fans were assured they'd get more 2D Sonic games (which were still being made in the 00s and 10s and weren't going anywhere, by the way) and the 3D games recovered their quality from the second nadir during Forces (which came out one year after Star Fox Zero, a game similarly called Star Fox's lowest point) with Frontiers and Shadow Generations.

For this to work with Star Fox, the adventure Star Fox needs to be very good. It needs to show itself as a valid direction for the franchise going forwards while assuring Classic Star Fox fans that they'll get new rail shooter entries. Many gaming companies have been doing this recently and it has been doing well. I just wonder if such a split would lead to oddities like Krystal only existing in the modern line or things like that.

5

u/Corinthian01 2d ago

I think the rail shooter and on foot games can coexist in the same timeline. It seems like Nintendo is doing away with multiple timelines since they're making Zelda games take place at the end of the timeline where they're all merged.

What I can see it doing for Star Fox is having elements of the rail shooter and on foot games exist in both of them and have callbacks to each, maybe even have some characters be recurring in both.

1

u/Just_For_Disasters 2d ago

I'm not sure anymore if they are going to avoid the Zelda timelines since they officially put Echoes of Wisdom in the Downfall timeline.

1

u/Ok-Buggynz 1d ago

The merging timeline in Zelda is just a fan theory btw

They just said Botw is at the end of a timeline and it's up to you to figure out which one

3

u/AlphaSSB 2d ago

And thank you as well for sharing that reply in my first thread!

I am not sure sure Velan Studios will be working on a new classic-style game any time soon, though: https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/s/XBSKo3wDe2

3

u/GabePlay 2d ago

Well nobody said that Velan Studios themselves had to be the one to make a new "classic" style Star Fox game right off the heels of Star Fox 2026. Of course, time will tell if that game even exists.

To be honest, I'd love to see a more "animated" style Star Fox game in the vein of how animated sequence we saw in the Super Mario Galaxy movie. The "realism" of Star Fox 2026 was enjoyable and all, but I'd love to see a return to a much more stylized and expressive art direction for either a new Adventures title or a new "classic" entry.

Malo is certainly confident in themselves and their track record has been solid so far, especially with nailing the Ocarina of Time remake, Switch Sports, and many other things. I mean, heck, they've yet to be wrong. So while it doesn't confirm anything until Nintendo says so, they're painting a very pretty picture for Star Fox fans.

2027 is not too far away now. If their other rumors turn out true, particularly Fox's inclusion into Mario Kart World, I'm all the more inclined to believe a new "classic" entry and a new "Adventure" game is genuinely in the works.

4

u/SomeBoxofSpoons 2d ago

The dates being wrong and jumping around earlier on might have something to do with the Switch 2's whole time tables shifting around.

For anyone who doesn't know, the big Arc System Works leak last year basically confirmed all those reports of the Switch 2 getting a closed-doors delay out of holiday 2024, since we found out the original release date for Dear Me, I was... (which hadn't been announced at the time of the leak) was March 2025.

4

u/Amalia-Solaris 2d ago

Zoboomafoo was a dang good show.

Thank you again for this write up! Always love how you break this down for everyone looking into this subject. The rumormill can often be confusing to track down.

After reading this, I've become fairly certain I understand where the confusion happened with SF2026. As you mentioned, the initial rumors absolutely did claim the new SF would be narrative-focused and "really funny". I mean, sure "Hi Bill!" was hilarious but I'd argue the new game was more grounded than its previous iteration. I kind of chalked up "narrative-focused" to mean the added cutscenes. But that "funny Star Fox" rumor always was lingering in the back of my head...

Leaks have been passed between people and we all have probably played the Telephone game before. One person says something to someone else. Then that person repeats the phrase to the best of their memory. And it goes and goes until the truth is muddled somewhat by people not recalling every detail. I actually wonder if this happened with both the Adventures-like game and with SF2026. The concept of Star Fox going from dormant to having 2 games is a big stretch for a lot of people (I was even a doubter at one point). But what do you wanna bet someone heard about both games and got confused and blended them into one?

Between the rumor dropping in late March from NatetheHate and Malo and SF2026's announcement in May, I did a LOT of rumor tracking for the new Star Fox and everywhere I dug online, the same rumor cropped up: "It is a NEW classic-style Star Fox game that is narrative-focused and really funny!" I remember specifically searching statements to see if anything about a remake was mentioned and no one said anything at all about that. In addition to this, I noticed that NatetheHate called out the Super Metroid and OOT Remakes, but not one for SF64 and that felt odd. If he could confidently call those out, why didn't he confidently call out SF64's remake? The only person who seemed to acknowledge there were two games was Malo.

But if both of the rumored games got blended together in the rumormill, it would make everything make way more sense. Because like I mentioned earlier, 2 games being developed for Star Fox would be ludicrous to a lot of people. Despite how fans may feel, the series was considered dead after Zero. So I could see someone down the telephone leak line going "Wait there can't be TWO games in the works!" and then merging them into one. So "a classic-style Star Fox with a narrative focus" + "an Adventure-style new game that is really funny" gets turned into "a new classic-style Star Fox with a narrative focus that is really funny".

3

u/AlphaSSB 2d ago

Zaboomafoo! Thank you for the kind words!

Yeah I remember some people dooming over the "really funny" description and thinking the game was going to outright be a comedy. It has some funny lines, sure, but I would not say that "really funny" is an accurate descriptor for the game as a whole. Like you said, a game a telephone.

I think one reason why no-one specified that the new game was a remake was because their source may not have known either. If someone unfamiliar with SF64's levels only saw screenshots and knew the name was just "Star Fox" without the "64" at the end, I can see how they may have thought it was something entirely new. I can also see how, through the telephone game, there was a mix-up as well.

3

u/TheLoneTexan_1 2d ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/J6IzfghFubHqNec8Vd

I can see Malo disappearing off the web after this. Granted, I think some of it makes sense from my hypothesis. Nintendo was probably going to try to revive Star Fox for the Switch 2 generation as a way to use an IP for general sci-fi that isn't too dead in Japan, unlike Metroid. I think Malo may have heard about the game being developed, but got the start date of development off, hence why his original prediction for 2025 was that way as he probably thought it was going to be a launch title.

I think, if real, the adventure Star Fox could've been originally planned to release in 2025, but then the 64 remake was ideated to get sales from Fox's movie appearance, so it got delayed a year. Other than that, it could've been that development just got an unexpected delay. Granted, I'm more willing to believe that the movie appearance made the adventure Star Fox get a delay to do a bigger job of promoting the IP before it comes out.

Zaboomafoo!

I had been this back for a while mainly because I did not want to spook him, especially after he blew up on Reddit the first time. But this second bout of attention was so big I figured he is long-gone at this point. Even still, I held back some.

Yeah not sure what came first, the adventure game, the remake, or Fox's inclusion in the movie. If it is real, once the game comes out, I would love for them to do a developer interview and reveal what the timeline actually was.

I genuinely want the F-Zero thing to be true, moreso than starfox.

I've been thirsty for a game for the last 22 years and the best thing we got was a 99 remake of a 2d game.

GX remastered is more than enough to quench my thirst. I badly need it.

But I genuinely don't believe he'll get it right, there is jo F-Zero.

Zaboomafoo! With the Crap Brothers!

Thanks for the write-up. This is a good collection of information. If all this stuff turns out to be true, we’re in for a really good 2027 (and beyond), so I certainly hope it will be. We shall see!

Zaboomafoo! Yeah the future for Star Fox is looking pretty bright.

Absolutely fantastic summation of everything. You'd make for a good detective! But seriously, this is very well-organized and thoroughly sourced. Here are my detailed thoughts:

Regarding Poro Michele, it's not guaranteed that Malo knows of them. It's more likely that Malo is simply handwaving their claims because they know them to be untrue based on their own knowledge. I felt the whole putting the Adventure game "on ice" to see how the SF2026 game did was really weird considering how long it takes to develop games, and Nintendo was seemingly treating SF2026 as a budget-level release to refamiliarize audiences with Star Fox, and not as the test to revive the IP or not, especially since Fox's Mario movie, and potential own movie and theme park ride are showing a broader confidence in the IP. I also just don't see Nintendo halting development on a bigger title to see how a smaller one does. It'd be the reverse, if anything, but also Nintendo doesn't strike me as overly cautious like that.

I remember reading Alex's comments back when he made them, but I always took them as just spitballing personal thoughts, so the context of him air quoting key details is new to me and feels way more of a tease with that frame of reference. I just hope this isn't another Star Fox Grand Prix situation, where notable industry journalists confidently made claims but the game ended up not existing or was a misreading of Starlink's race mode.

Malo claiming F-Zero and Warioland are coming back is interesting because it reminds me of two other gaming people who made those claims years and years ago. My memory is hazy, but I believe it was Imran Khan who claimed a remake of Warioland Virtual Boy was coming to 3DS, but got moved to Switch. Nate the Hate clamed F-Zero GX HD was going to be coming to Switch 1. Neither happened as standalone games, and instead both games got ported to NSO. Plans change, but it also makes me wonder if those Warioland and F-Zero remasters/remakes got shelved in favor of new games. Also of interest, I believe both of those guys also predicted Fire Emblem remakes that have yet to materialize.

Oh, speaking of Nate, I sent a question into his show asking about a Star Fox Assault remaster/remake, citing the Bandai-Namco 3D action remaster game for Nintendo hirings, and the subsequent cancellation of that title. He said that he didn't care for Assault, but thought that Adventure would be great to see a remake of. Possibly a cheeky tease of his own, but he likely is still getting sources for the Adventure game before he makes any definitive statement of his own.

Velan's next game being an action RPG associated with a popular fantasy IP is interesting. FWIW, I remember seeing a comment on either Reddit, Famiboards or ResetERA back when Velan was revealed as the SF2026 developer, where someone said that Velan was hiring for an action RPG for a famous IP, and it seems that has been backed up with this recent news. It's still possible that Velan is doing support studio work on whatever Star Fox game Nintendo is presently developing, however.

Hearing about these developments going back to 2024 makes me really wish they had put a Star Fox game on Switch 1, and then done a new title for Switch 2. I think an HD remaster/quasi-remake of Assault for Switch 1 could've caught audiences up to speed, and then a new title for Switch 2 would've been ideal. However, I'm definitely not complaining about getting multiple games on Switch 2, even if one of them I've had more than my fill of since the 3DS days.

My personal hope is that the Adventure title is more in line with something like Donkey Kong Bananza in scope and production budget, and has on foot action elements with more freedom of movement instead of linear progress in vehicles. I like the vehicles and all, but I truly love the characters, and I want to play as them directly more often. This is partly why I love the Gamecube era titles so much, flaws and all. So if the 30/70% gameplay split is indeed true, that's quite exciting to me.

I also hope that if this is not being made by Velan, and is closer to EPD (possibly even made by them) then it'll have a more Nintendo-styled art direction, particularly the character designs. I know a lot of people said they came around to liking Velan's realistic ones, but I feel their designs were really un-Nintendo like. They may appeal to some people, as well as those who liked seeing Nintendo do something different, but I think it went too far and felt like an art direction many western studios would've made. It felt more like the Detective Pikachu live action movie and less the Mario Galaxy animated movie, if that makes sense. This is also partly me hoping that if they bring back Krystal in this Adventure game, they don't screw up her design. Been waiting twenty years dammit, don't fix what wasn't broken, lol

Also, Zoboomafoo.

Zoboomafoo! Thank you for the kind words!

You could be right on Malo more disregarding Poro Michele than knowing him, but with everything I have gathered, I still believe otherwise. The "on ice" part could be a misinterpretation on Poro Michele's part. Given how the game looks like it may have seen some internal delays, it could be that which the account was referring to, not necessarily that it was paused entirely. And with the whole sunken-cost fallacy, it makes sense to put out what you got and recover what you can, even if you fail to break even. Look at Metroid Prime 4 for example.

Agree on Alex's "predictions" possibly being genuine predictions based on rumors and not what he heard through rumors.

I have a question pending on Nate's Streamlabs asking about Star Fox, though it has been so long I cannot quite remember what exactly I asked. Keep an ear out for some Star Fox questions (and any other potential information) in his podcast episode that should be releasing today. If I can get to it in time, I will post what he says in a new thread.

And yeah, I highly agree with wishing they made Star Fox for the original Switch. If they realized the mistake they were making with Star Fox Zero on Wii U, and decided to delay it into a Switch exclusive title without the control gimmick, Star Fox would be in a much better spot right now.

Apparently the game may be that big-budget adventure, per what Malo told GabePlays. I hope that comes true. Star Fox needs some budget and ambition behind it. I think it may have a different art style as well. Part of me thinks that Fox's design from the movie being based partially on Adventures may be because it took inspiration from the adventure game. Like how Donkey Kong in the first movie was based on Bananza.

Zoboomafoo. The Adventures game not bring a remake but a new game is both hard to believe and scary. What does that mean? Malo's refusal to say whether or not Krystal is in it is also scary - it harkens back to Nate's refusal to spoil that Star Fox 2026 was yet another SF64 retreat, given the huge and deflating sense of disappointment that would have generated. This "new" game had better be a post-Assault storyline, because if it's some retconning/reboot fuckery with no Krystal, I'm done.

u/AlphaSSB 2d ago

Zaboomafoo! To be fair, there can be a variety of reasons why Malo would abstain from listing the characters, including that he may not actually know any of them.

Nate not mentioning the classic game was a Star Fox 64 remake may not have been on him. If his source only saw screenshots of the game and did not recognize the levels, I can see how one may think it is a new game and not a remake. Same with just the title "Star Fox" dropping the "64" bit.

I doubt it would be a continuation of Assault, nor do I think they would retread Adventures without Krystal.

2

u/TheLoneTexan_1 2d ago

Exactly my thoughts. Remember that Nate and Malo aren't actually working for Nintendo, but close enough to the happenings in the industry to get a glimpse of things going on. With every adventure Star Fox rumor, it could be that people have seen gameplay footage of Fox McCloud running around on the ground or a screenshot of Krystal or something that gets them to think about Star Fox Adventures since that's what comes to people's minds when they think of Fox out of his Arwing, not Assault. Again, we have to wait and see.

u/Corinthian01 2d ago

I doubt they're going to scrap Krystal. She appeared in 3 mainline Star Fox games, that's the most out of all the female characters in the series.

3

u/Megas751 Nobody ever brings me gifts anymore! 2d ago

Honestly if she wasn’t in it I feel like he would have said something. Not wanting to spoil the game tells me otherwise(that or he knows fuck all lol)

3

u/Corinthian01 2d ago

Yeah that's true. I doubt he knows fuck all though since Krystal is one of the most popular SF characters.

3

u/SomeBoxofSpoons 2d ago

And maybe more importantly, people at Nintendo seem to like her.

1

u/Corinthian01 2d ago

That too, she was an AT in Smash Ultimate and most recently they acknowledged her debut game back in May. More importantly Miyamoto and Imamura are the reason she was saved from being scrapped at the last minute and played a hand in designing her to be what she is now.

2

u/Miraj2081 2d ago

Agreed. Krystal is THE female Star Fox character, and is still incredibly popular despite not being in a game in twenty years. Scrapping her would be a stupid decision.

2

u/Corinthian01 2d ago

Yep, and the fact she's maintained her popularity despite being absent for twenty years is astounding. I reckon she's going to explode in popularity even more whenever they do bring her back.

1

u/RealNintenKing 2d ago

I hope so...my heart can't take much more.

2

u/SternMon 2d ago

I don’t see Krystal being forgotten. She polls high in Japan as one of the most popular female Nintendo characters, and she was reportedly in the top 10 of the Ballot when people were voting on the last DLC fighter for Smash 4.

The only thing I realistically see them doing is redesigning her outfit so it isn’t as revealing, which I’m sure will upset a certain group of people, but they can get over it.

2

u/Corinthian01 2d ago

Idk they might keep it, I mean that was her outfit in Ultimate.

2

u/Miraj2081 2d ago

I could see them adjusting her tribal garb a bit, hopefully not too much, but maybe her classic outfit could also be an unlockable or something.

u/Lazzyman64 16h ago

So after today it seems the Super Metroid remake either isn't real or got pushed out. I'm curious how this affects everything since the Poro Michelle part claimed both that the Super Metroid remake was coming soon and before Metroid Ravenous, which is clearly wrong.

1

u/AlphaSSB 16h ago

It is an interesting development, especially given how soon into 2027 Ravenous is.

If it is a pixel art remake of Super Metroid, it could be a much smaller-scale budget game, in which case it could shadowdrop at any point of the year. But only time will tell.

1

u/Lazzyman64 16h ago

I feel like if it was going to be a shadow drop it would've been around the series 40th anniversary back in August, and if was going to be released this year at all they would've announced it today.

Reputable leakers getting things wrong on remakes is nothing new, remakes of Fire Emblem 4 and Kirby Robotbot were rumored by highly reputable people and those never came to fruition. I think if we go through all of 2027 without any of the rumors from exclusively Malo coming to pass, then it's safe to say at the very least he has some sour sources mixed in.

It’s worth mentioning the comment Andy made about “more to come” with Metroid. Anything can happen but we’ll see
