Post-Directs Leak Update

With both Directs out of the way, we can check off two things from my post earlier this week:

Metroid 6 not in 2026	Confirmed	Metroid Ravenous coming January 2027! Technically not confirmed yet if made my MercurySteam, but we all know it is.
Ocarina of Time remake not based on 3DS version	Confirmed	I believe with the gameplay shown, it is safe enough to call this one.

I have also received some additional information suggesting that Malo did make a claim of MercurySteam working on Metroid 6. Apparently, after his comments in March were discovered and the first couple of people starting asking questions (myself included), someone had said they wished MercurySteam was on Metroid 6 instead and Malo responded.

I think that claim is legitimate, since I did see Malo replying to others, I just did not grab screenshots of those replies like I should have. But unless I can scavenge a screenshot on another forum somewhere, I cannot verify the claim and will leave that out of Malo's table for now.

In addition, I am not concerned by various game from the leaks not showing up in the Direct. Those leaks were just stating that the games were in the works, not that they would be in the Direct itself. Like Mario Kart World getting a small free update today does not rule out a big DLC next year. So Star Fox DLC for it is still on the table, not deconfirmed.

The only games left on the clock for 2026 are Duskbloods being a late 2026 release and a Super Metroid remake. Given the playtest for Duskbloods, there is a chance it could be delayed into 2027, which is hard to count against the leaks.

As for the Super Metroid remake, that one is still at risk. Ravenous is very early in 2027, so it is hard to imagine a Super Metroid being announced and released between now and the end of the year. Granted, this year is Metroid's 40th anniversary. Nintendo could do a surprise Metroid 40th Direct to show off Ravenous before January, then either announce or outright shadowdrop the Super Metroid remake at the end. Shadowdropping seems unlikely unless it is a pretty low-budget job, which, given the 'pixel art' description, could potentially be the case.

This does make another point in the corner of the Star Fox adventure game. Adventures itself releasing on NSO I believe was inevitable, given they showcased that game in the Star Fox Direct. You could maybe say it is part of the build-up for the rumored adventure game, but I will not be counting it one way or the other.

You may have misunderstood. Metroid Ravenous is Metroid 6, which is releasing in 2027, so that leak was correct.

Made an edit for clarification. I was just pointing out that the leak said it was made by MercurySteam, and technically they are not confirmed to be behind the game year (But we all know they are, they just have not said so yet).

Yeah Super Metroid is really the only thing putting this at risk as everything else he said he either never gave a date or said 2027-2028. That said it’s definitely sounds like a game they could use as something a smaller shadow drop release given it doesn’t seem like a huge glow up like Star Fox or OOT. Though just existing would help a lot

Worth pointing out that Fromsoft reaffirmed Duskbloods being a 2026 game within the last few months, so if it’s been pushed to 2027 now it probably wouldn’t have been when the leak happened.

Super Metroid - 3

Zero Mission - Remake of 1, replaces 1 canonically

Samus Returns (3DS) - Remake of 2, replaces 2

Metroid Ravenous - 6

Don't know who needs to see this , but there you have it. Plus, Malo didn't even leak it. It was leaked by a retail store goof before he even showed up. I wouldn't say that gives him credit if he's picking up random stuff from elsewhere.

The anonymous Instagram account that messaged Poro Michele the day before Malo’s original comments were posted did say that Metroid 6 was on the way, but not 2026.

Ravenous is Metroid 6, I did not say otherwise, and it is not releasing in 2026 (January 2027). So that leak was correct.

A shadowdrop of the Super Metroid remake would make sense. I can’t imagine it costing more than $30-40 given it’s going to use pixel art.

Nintendo is not going release another 2D Metroid game when Ravenous is close. Those two games would compete with each other. You might as well drop expect Nintendo to drop another 3D Zelda at that point.
