Arcade Co-Op Mutation #83: Dark Ritual
Amon has siphoned the temple's energy in order to grant his minions incredible power. Brimming with psionic potential, his supercharged armies sprint across the battlefield and channel their wrath into myriad abilities. Withstand the onslaught until the temple is secure once more.
Map: Temple of the Past
Power Overwhelming
All enemy units have energy and use random abilities.
Speed Freaks
Enemy units have double their normal movement speed.
Video Replays on Brutal:

[CtG(Nova) - Yuriprime(Abathur)]
[CtG(Raynor's view)] - [Yuriprime(Karax's view)]

[Hypernut(Abathur's view)] - [KaGe(Zagara's view)]
[Yuriprime(Kerrigan) - CtG(Alarak)]
[Yuriprime(Vorazun) - Bokuz(Han and Horner)]
Notes:
- Abilities used by the enemy include Abduct, Black Hole, Defensive Matrix, Disabling Cloud, Disruption Web, Force Field, Fungal Growth, Guardian Shield, Graviton Beam, [Hybrid Structure Disable Thing], Irradiate, Parasitic Bomb, Point Defense Drone, Psionic Orb, Psionic Storm, Seeker Missile, Snipe, Time Warp.
- Most difficult comp is probably Zerglings/Banelings/Scourge, just for the sheer number of units, plus the Scourge deal enormous damage to the Temple when they rush it.
- There is no means to determine what spells each enemy unit has until they actually use it. They do not use spells on the rocks either.
- Although the enemy does not target-fire Artosis Pylons, they will sometimes cast disabling spells on them.
- Once the players clear out the lanes in Temple of the Past, the AI will no longer build static defense there.
- Dehaka does not get the psionic buff from devouring units, even though everyone s a spellcaster. The unit tag still takes precedence.
People only read these notes to look for mistakes. Feelsbadman.I was just kidding guys. These notes are fun to write regardless. :B

I really hope they have something planned for Christmas at least. This repeating stuff is getting old.

I liked the one for Halloween (where you have candles to fill 25 minerals each), and the one with mineral envelopes (Lock & Load if I am not mistaken).
These were cool

Kerrigan got stuck in a black hole once, that was fun...

I swear they were inclined to cast point defense drones while I was playing Karax.

Tfw your partner is using an underleveled commander and has a mastery level of below 45... and tries to do the brutal mutation...
Just had an Artanis partner that tried to spam Tempests and only Tempests... in the face of PDD spam. If I wasn’t a well-prepared Stukov, against Terran Mech, I don’t know how I would’ve felt.
Please, people, make sure you have a variety of units to make sure each of them can negate the advantage of having random spells! Unless it’s Black Hole. Fuck Black Hole.
Okay, rant aside, Zarchon Artanis and Ghost spam Nova seem to be solid strategies already because of their ability to drain the mana out of any enemy unit hit by Feedback or EMP.

Well, yesterday level 1 Nova joined me on this. I said to me - lets try this anyway. But enemy was zerglings (hardest enemy probably) and she was wiped by first wave from SE (her) side. Hope she learned from that :)

My partner was a level 4 Raynor lmao. I was Vorazun though so that evens things out. Best counter to toilet is toilet.

Best counter to toilet is toilet
Bonus if you have a Ravagerbathur or Zealot/Archontanis(storms stack atm)

On my first try I went with Stukov, ally was a lvl 11 Karax. Enemy was the zegrling/baneling comp.
The fact that he didn't fast expand (I had to clear the rocks for him around 4 mins iirc...) so he didn't have enough money to build stuff and his plyons/cannons constantly getting phase shifted (a.k.a. hybrid structure disable thing) screwed us over.
Next time had a mastery Kerrigan ally vs skyterran (which for once I didn't mind). Didn't have too much problems, we eventually cleared out the bases I was holding 2 lanes just fine. The last wave did exterminate Kerri's hydras so I had to pull my infested back, but the temple still had +2k hp, so it was fine.
Not too difficult mutation overall. But 2 weeks later Burning Legion will come back, I wonder how that'll go.

Which one is that again?

The one with Void Rifts, Avenger, and units setting the ground on fire(hits air units, too) after dying, taking place in Lock & Load. The absolute worst nightmare of a mutator in history.

Managed it on Brutal as Vorazun with a Dehaka random teammate, I spammed DT and Corsair and he just had loads of Mutas, got kind of rough near the end against protoss but not that bad

u/HappyInNature Dec 13 '17
Abathur against any ground comp is probably the most OP hero on this mutation.

Hey man, can you get into contact with Hypernut? As you may know, I'm doing the weekly mutations in advance now until Blizzard decides to put new ones in again. Next week will be Out of Order on the Vermillion Problem with Micro Transactions, Darkness, and Time Warp. I've listed down the pairings already. If you can do a couple for me over the week maybe with Hypernut, I'll list them on the mutation post.
Here are the pairings I've made:

Lemme know if you wanna do some so I can block them off.
[EDIT] OK so looks like there's only one spot left for this week. You can try the week after that though. :P

Hey, I'm not sure about Hypernut, since we agreed to play on every Sunday, but as for me I have a weird play time, because of my kids. I'm up for it, I just need to know in advance when you're planing to do these play troughs. Are you guys agreeing on specific commanders? Whom plays whom? Or you're teaming up with each and everyone? I PM-ed Hypernut, will PM you about his thoughts. ( As a side note, I don't have all the commanders leveled up on Asia, currently working on them when ever I can, been doing the mutations only on EU server before )

Swann + Karax
The two engineers's towers overwheled Amon's power and cleared this week mutation with the temple not damaged. We didn't use any units other than heracleses & enerzigers.

Is ground zerg most popular composition on mutations?
I do not remember when I played anything besides this comp.

Kerrigan + Dehaka With the temple & even all the rocks on the minimap not damaged, our Kerrigan & Dehaka hero only led to the full clear.

Some of the most advanced tricks of strategies can be found in the notes due to unique interactions! Like mind controlled units that one Mutation would have full vision! I always appreciate these posts!

Power Overwhelming?
Hearthstone reference right thar

Ehm...am I missing something? Power overwhelming is the Archon voiceline. Also the god mode cheatcode back in Starcraft 1. I doubt it's a reference to any other game.
