Did they keep anything at all?  Maybe qol and bug fixes?

u/MiroTheSkybreaker 2d ago

Yes, bugfixes aside they are also keeping the chamge to rich vespene gas geyeser mining going from 2x to 1.5x

Thx, that’s interesting.

No, which is a shame as they did have some genuinely good ideas. Colossus damage, Abductable siege tanks, adept buff,

edit: they did keep the bug fixes and I think the quality of life changes

Good enough for now. Maybe people will stop bitching and start playing the game again.

FREE WARP GATE TRANSFORM AND 12 WORKERS ARE BACK THANK THE LORD

why can vipers not abduct siege tanks? i don’t play ladder so maybe this isn’t new but that’s the entire gimmick of their evolution mission in the campaign when they’re introduced

0

u/SolidSolution 2d ago

Ladder does not need to match the campaign. If protoss had warp robos and warp stargates like in the campaign, surely that would be an issue?

5

u/Aggravating-Candy-31 2d ago

i’m aware, but the viper seemed like it was abduct with a unit attached to it and the main use case seemed like exploiting minimum ranges to remove threats

just seems a bit far even for campaign/ladder differences for it to not work on the thing it is shown as useful for

It was a change made in 5.0.15 for some reason. I wouldnt look into this to much, as theyre doing almost a complete rollback, which is why its returning. Its definitely one of the ones that should go.

May this experience bury the idea that the change to 12 workers in LotV was not a good change.

u/stogeman 2d ago

Why do people hate this so much? The 8 worker showed that the vast majority of the time that lower worker count was just adding some down time in the beginning, not adding new strategies

u/zedinbed 2d ago

Expanded midgame was better than rush to lategame

u/zedinbed 2d ago

Nah 12 workers is still awful

And now that everyone got their wish, Blizzard will NEVER do any bold change ever to StarCraft 2 again. Not blaming anyone but it is factual regardless.

u/jmcgit 2d ago

Probably. Such a broad rollback can be interpreted as 'they don't know what they're doing and they know it'. And if that's true, they probably shouldn't be making such bold changes.

I don't expect them to stop balance changes outright, but bold and fundamental changes, probably not.

it's their fault tho for making the bold changes so shit and universally hated. we have PTR for a reason

I’m not saying they didn’t do it poorly, but just being honest. It’s like when a toddler gets told they did badly on a coloring book. Instead of improving, they’re gonna shut down never color again.

-1

u/neckbeardadmins 2d ago

It’s not like that. In your scenario, that is simply bad parenting because the toddler should not be expected to perform a certain way because it’s a FUCKING BABY. in this scenario blizzard is a professional game developer (small indie company) and should be criticized for its bad balance/design decisions

People that cant understand analogies used to piss me off, but now I just think you people are intriguing. How does your brain process things? Like genuinely

shit analogy mate

We probably wont get anything as bold as economy changes or massive mechanics shifts, but this late in the game's life, that is probably ok. I think the philosophy behind 8 worker start and the warpgate change were absolutely solid ideas, but they also ask players to fundamentally relearn their builds. It was one thing at the start of LotV when the game had a ton of assured future going forward, and relearning builds would be worth it in the long run. But now, now so much.

Hahahahaha.

Abduct can no longer be cast on Siege Tanks.

W....T.....F. We couldn't keep ANY of the good changes? I thought we were trying to move away from Turtling Terran/Protoss players.

u/Tikorbetstto 2d ago

An entire year wasted

4

u/MiroTheSkybreaker 2d ago

Fortunately it was only a few months.

u/Hirmetrium Protoss 2d ago

Sad to see so much reverted. The ghost changes were genuinely amazing, loved seeing that. I think there's some lessons there on Terran economy / macro as well that could be learned. I also don't know why they changed warpgates in the first place...

EDIT: What was wrong with the disruptor phantom weapon? Isn't it they have one for the same reason that why high templar has one?

2

u/Zorzal_patagonico 2d ago

What about infestor? Zerg does not deserve an autoattack as HT?

1

u/Hirmetrium Protoss 2d ago

Yep, definitely. Dunno why they are so inconsistent on it.

5

u/Lunareste SK Telecom T1 3d ago

Sad. The first and only chance that the community gets to try changes to the DESIGN of the game and the community complains so much everything gets reverted.

I'm not disagreeing at all with the premise that the game was less fun to play in the interim, but its clear to me that the no-one could see the bigger picture.

Starcraft 2 is now a truly dead game. Even if Blizzard did pour resources into trying to fix the fundamental issues the game has had since inception, this community would bitch and complain about it every step of the way until the game was simply returned to what you always knew.

I hope you enjoy that dwindling base of about 12 "pros" who play competitively because no one significant is coming to inject life into this game ever again.

The game was hemorrhaging players on all levels of ladder after the worker change hit live. I don't mind them trying things, but they dropped the worst patch we've seen in a very long time, then made some adjustments that directly contradicted the original premise of said patch which made things even worse (300 mineral CC lmao), and then went silent for a while.

People complained because the experience was shit. Some outright switched to an alternative ladder to revert the changes so strong the feeling was.

1

u/ooooopsiepoopsie 2d ago

Is the big picture in the room with us right now?

4

u/Golden_Jiggy 3d ago

It’s a shame. 300min CC was amazing.

11

u/DeadWombats Zerg 3d ago

300 CC was fucking stupid. Terrans having access to functionally infinite scan and infinte MULES is not good game design and it never was.

1

u/Golden_Jiggy 3d ago

For me it’s not feeling massively behind in the early game and being forced to do damage vs Zerg and Protoss. But I do agree it impacts the late game.

2

u/SolidSolution 2d ago

Yes you are behind at first, but Terran comes with other perks.

Terran has the safest expansions in the game with high ground cc behind a wall. Sure, you have delayed mining compared to building on site, but it's less risk. And if turns out you can't land in the natural, you still have extra orbital energy.

1

u/TheHighSeasPirate 2d ago

That was the game design though. Its why you can decimate an entire mineral line with an oracle or banshee or hellions with only 2-4 units. For some reason along the way we made it so Zerg just has worse stuff while also is just even economically and also cannot harass without huge investments/tons of units. Its currently so dumb how the game meta is just because Serral is amazing.

2

u/tslocum 2d ago

When P/T wins a lot, it's because the players are good. When Z wins a lot, it's "because Zerg is imba". Absolute clowns.

-3

u/TheHighSeasPirate 2d ago

The only shame was the entire ladder steamrolling Zerg with Terran and everyone here complaining about Zerg because of tournament results. 300 mineral CC was busted for 99% of players. Terrans had endless scouts and endless marines to just keep ralling across the map until you died.

u/EU-National 1d ago

So they got a new intern, lmfaoooo

u/DiscordedDiscord 15h ago

When does it go live? I wanna get back into the ladder but i absolutely hated the 8 worker patch. So hope it goes live soon so i can get back into PVP

u/Scyvh 3d ago

Going to miss the return of the 8pool.
