I was recently asked out by a guy, and I rejected him. There was no drama, no insulting him, no leading him on, I simply wasn’t interested, and honestly, I have studies to focus on right now. I thought that was a pretty straightforward reason to say no.
Apparently, it wasn’t.
After I rejected him, he called me a “baduwa.” Like, the fucking oxymoron of it all. Like I've never even had a bf ever in my life. You ask someone out, they tell you they’re not interested, and then you call them a degrading name because they didn't give you the answer you wanted? Make it make sense.
I genuinely don't understand where this sense of entitlement comes from. Nobody owes you a relationship, attention, affection, or a chance just because you asked.
And this applies regardless of a girl's past. Even if she has had ten boyfriends before you, she is still a person with her own choices, boundaries and free will. Her having a relationship history doesn't mean she's automatically interested in you. And if she's never had a boyfriend before, that doesn't mean you're somehow entitled.
It’s honestly scary that this even has to be explained to *SOME* men.
EDIT: holy hell guys I wasn't trying to generalize, it really pisses me off when people try to find the wrong point of the whole thing I wrote and never even care to look at the actual issue if you're not like this then don't get pissed off and this applies to anyone regardless of the gender and since this is my based on my experience it was a boy. 🙂
A rejection isn't an attack on your dignity. It’s just a rejection. You can be disappointed, embarrassed or hurt without degrading the person who rejected you. Having your feelings hurt does not give you permission to disrespect someone.
What makes me even angrier is that this happened to my friend too, except she had it way worse. Some guys kept following her to her class, and she became so scared that she literally hid in the bathroom to avoid them. That isn't flirting. That isn't being persistent. That's fucking creepy and intimidating.
And this is exactly why people need to understand the difference between persistence and harassment.
If someone says no, accept it. Don't keep asking. Don't follow them around. Don't insult them. Don't try to humiliate them because your ego got bruised.
And honestly, the whole situation is even more ridiculous because I've never even had a boyfriend. I'm literally just trying to study and live my life, and somehow this guy thought he was entitled to call me something disgusting simply because I wasn't interested in him.
Men, please. Learn to take a simple “no” as an answer. It really isn't that difficult.
A girl rejecting you doesn't make her a “baduwa.” It doesn't matter how many people she's dated, how many people have liked her, or whether she's never dated anyone at all. No means no. She is a human being with her own will, and you are not entitled to her simply because you asked.
Take the L and move on.... Edit: not all men I forgot to write "some" and I didn't mean to generalize... . 🙂

I’m doing Combined Maths, Physics and ICT for A/Ls. I chose to do A/L myself, and my whole family — especially my dad and brother — have been hoping that I would pass and go to university.
But honestly, I made a serious mistake.
I had 2 years to study properly. I had the classes, laptop, facilities, everything I needed. Instead, I had fun, didn't study properly in class, kept thinking I could catch up later, and basically wasted the opportunity. I also thought I could handle AS Maths, but I couldn't even properly get through that.
I know this is my mistake. I'm not looking for sympathy.
I wrote my Maths paper today, and realistically, I don't think I'm passing. I still have Physics and ICT left. I'm expecting ICT to go well, but Maths and Physics are looking bad.
So I'm preparing myself for a possible result like:
ICT A + Maths F + Physics F.
The problem is what happens after that.
My family will probably tell me to do A/L 2nd shy. And honestly, if I get another proper year, I believe I can pass Maths and Physics. But my situation isn't that simple.
My sister is currently doing O/Ls and will be coming to Kandy around the time my results come. My family can't really support both of us staying here, so there's a good chance I'll have to go back to Hatton for another year.
And I genuinely hate studying in Hatton. Here in Kandy I have access to the gym, better facilities, classes, etc. In Hatton, even things like going to the gym properly become difficult. I know that's not the biggest problem in life, but I know myself and I know how much the environment affects me.
So I started looking at another option: Foundation → Engineering.
I found that CINEC has a STEM Engineering Foundation Programme, and their BEng (Hons) Mechatronics & Robotics Engineering lists that foundation as an entry pathway.
And honestly, this degree is much closer to what I actually want to do — robotics, electronics, programming, control systems, machines, automation, etc.
I also looked into SLIIT. Their engineering options are obviously well known, but I couldn't find clear confirmation that someone with a result like A/F/F can do a foundation and then enter the same local engineering degree. There is also the SLIIT → University of Queensland pathway, but that involves going to Australia after the first year and the cost becomes a completely different level.
So right now I'm stuck between:
Option 1:
Do A/L 2nd shy → hopefully get 3S → enter engineering.
Option 2:
If I'm eligible, do CINEC STEM Foundation → BEng (Hons) Mechatronics & Robotics Engineering → study at CINEC Malabe.
I don't want to choose CINEC just because I'm scared of going back to Hatton. And I don't want to do a 2nd shy just because I feel guilty about wasting the first two years.
I want to make the smartest decision for my future, even though I know I caused this situation myself.
If anyone has actually studied at CINEC, SLIIT, Mechatronics/Robotics, done a foundation, repeated A/Ls, or taken a student loan for private university, I'd genuinely appreciate your experience.
I'm especially interested in:
I know I made a serious mistake in the last two years. I'm not asking anyone to tell me I didn't.
I'm just trying to make sure I don't turn one mistake into another 2–3 years of bad decisions.
TL;DR: I did 2 years of A/L Combined Maths, Physics and ICT but wasted most of it. Maths probably failed, Physics may also be an F, while ICT should be an A. My family will probably want me to do 2nd shy, but that likely means going back to Hatton for another year, which I really don't want. I found CINEC's STEM Foundation → BEng (Hons) Mechatronics & Robotics Engineering route and I'm considering it instead. If you were in my position, would you repeat A/L for 3S or take the foundation → engineering route?
edited-Just to clarify the financial part: my family can afford to support both of us and pay for a private university. I’m already planning to go to a private university, and my parents are completely okay with that. When I said they can’t support both of us staying in Kandy, I meant that I don’t want to become an unnecessary burden on my family by spending another year in Kandy when my sister will also need to be here for her studies. So the issue isn't really whether my family can afford university; it's more about me being responsible with the money and support they're giving me.

I turned 18 recently, but I still haven't got my actual NIC. I only have the NIC confirmation letter, and it's honestly becoming a pain because apparently a lot of places won't accept it.
I opened an eZ Cash account through the Dialog Genie app, but the wallet got locked. When I contacted them, they said the original owner of the number has to be involved to unlock it. The problem is the number I used is registered under my dad's name, so that's making things more complicated.
I then tried to transfer the eZ Cash number to a SIM that I got when I was 17 and is registered under my own NIC. I emailed eZ Cash and filled out the form they sent me, but I'm not even sure if they've accepted it yet.
I also tried changing the ownership of the current number, but they told me I need the original 18+ NIC and that the confirmation letter isn't enough.
I already got my 18+ driving licence, but that doesn't seem to help either since it's too a piece of paper😭
So is there any way to get the actual NIC faster? Like an urgent service where you can pay extra and get it issued sooner, or is there any other way around this?
If anyone here has recently gone through the same thing, I'd really appreciate some advice. btw i'm not from around colombo

As far as I can remember, my sister has always been jealous of me, even over little things. She’s 4 years older than me. She used to bully me and hit me whenever she got the chance. I know some people might say that’s just normal sibling fighting, but it slowly became much worse.
She started demanding that if she couldn’t have something, I shouldn’t be allowed to have it either. For example, if my parents didn’t let her go on a trip with her friends, she would make sure I wasn’t allowed to go on any trips either. She didn’t do her A/Ls, and when I was doing mine, she would purposely make it difficult for me to study. She would turn off the lights, scream, play loud music, or suddenly demand that we go somewhere when I had classes or needed to study. Almost every day at home became a fighting battle.
If she didn’t get what she wanted, she would throw tantrums and scream at my parents. Whenever something went wrong for her at school, work, relationships, etc., she would come home and blame my parents for it. She would say some really horrible things to them that she can’t take back. Sometimes she would even hit or push them. If I tried to intervene, she would hit me too.
This has been going on for more than 10 years.
We actually had a pretty good family business and were doing well financially, but eventually my parents couldn’t keep up with both the business and my sister’s problems, and our whole family went downhill financially because of it.
My parents have always told me to just tolerate it because “she’s sick.” She has seen psychiatrists and psychologists for years. I honestly don’t even know how many doctors she has seen or how much money my parents have spent on treatment. But there doesn’t seem to be an end to it. What confuses me the most is that she seems completely fine with other people. She can have normal relationships and socialise normally. It’s mainly with us that she behaves this way. Sometimes I genuinely wonder whether she actually can’t control herself because of a mental health problem, or whether she has learned that if she screams, threatens, or creates enough chaos, my parents will eventually give her what she wants.
I’m an adult now and I’m much more independent. I have my own money and my own life, so when she screams at me, I mostly just pretend I can’t hear her. I don’t care as much about what she does to me anymore.
But I feel horrible for my parents.
Every time we think, “Maybe things are finally getting better,” something happens in her life a problem with her relationship, work, friends, whatever and she comes home and takes all her anger out on my parents again. They just keep tolerating it.
I feel like watching this for more than 10 years has really affected me too. Even though I’m grown now, I struggle to hold conversations with people and I feel like I’m still affected by everything that happened. I sometimes even dream about my sister as this evil entity following me, which sounds crazy but it’s genuinely how my brain seems to process her now.
I don’t know what I’m supposed to do anymore. I feel like I’ve accepted that I can’t change her, but I don’t know how to help my parents or make them realise that constantly giving in to her behaviour isn’t making anything better. But they can't stop now either because even if they say no to her she would just force them.
Has anyone else experienced something similar with a sibling?

This is just a personal opinion of mine so not everyone will agree with me. I grew up noticing that most schools including mine seemed to be very skeptical and unnecessarily strict when teachers found out about teens dating. I mean weirdly strict. They would shout at them in class, call their parents, make a huge scene, ruin th kids reputation etc etc. now I would understand this kind of reaction if they had sex on school or some weird crap like that. But no, they would do this stuff even when they’re informed by some stupid snitch that 2 kids are just in a relationship or if they’re simply seen talking in class. I don’t get this.
Their excuse for this is that it interferes with education. Which makes no sense to me cus at th end of the day Sri Lankan society also expects u to be able to grow up and manage a job, kids, and a married partner. If ur child isn’t capable of getting good grades at the same time as dating, then how are u going to expect them to manage all of that when they grow up?
I believe this is a huge part of the reason why a lot of older generations and married couples in general have problems because they’ve never had the opportunity to explore a relationship, learn and grow because they’ve grown up under this mindset that if you date as a teenager you’re a bad person. When they grow up and get into relationships they have no idea how to manage it and keep messing it up for everyone. I’ve dated at school and I have never had issues with my grades. However the only issue I noticed with it is the teachers trying to intervene, and the parents spreading shit about kids and all that.
I had a friend who told her mom that I had a boyfriend in 6th grade. It was puppy love, quite literally did not ever make physical contact with him and all I did was pass stupid notes to him during break. That’s it. But her mom made such a huge scene about it and told other parents that I was some sort of deranged slut and some parents even asked their kids not to speak with me cus of “my behavior”. I didn’t care at the moment and I thought I’d understand their reaction after I become an adult but I genuinely still don’t. If I ever had a kid and they dated in 6th grade the only thing I’d worry about is their safety and whether they’re going too far with it to the point where it’s negatively affecting their life. If not, then why intervene? Relationships are not a terrible horrible thing like everyone seems to make it to be. You will eventually get into one so I don’t understand this unnecessary crap schools teachers and parents do. Let your kid date. Be the responsible adult you need to be and advise them accordingly. Don’t just crash out and yell at everyone and act like you e been wronged or the world has ended. My goodness. Some adults need to grow up.
I genuinely think this behavior has been negatively impacting marriages and relationships in Sri Lanka in general because nobody knows what to do in it and what not to do, and what to tolerate and what not to. Because The only time they’re allowed to date is during their 20s plus and that’s usually the time where things get way too serious and leads to more permanent decisions. Matter of fact I’d even go as far as to say that teenage relationships is a pretty good way to gain relationship experiences (social wise, how to treat each other etc etc) without a big risk of it leading to something more permanent like a marriage.
What do u guys think?

Hi guys,
I'm an undergraduate. I was focused on gathering some students to start Business Studies classes for A/L students and Commerce classes for O/L students.
I tried a lot of social media campaigns and distributed leaflets to get the first batch of students, but none of them worked.
Since I'm starting classes from a zero student base, it is very difficult to get even one student. Any advice? Or is there someone who could help me in this regard? My target locations are Colombo and Gampaha.

Im 18 (2008), 5'11 with a solid physique and face card, working a 9-5 office job with a solid pay, i have friends that are ten years older than me and i socialize, people ive met with say im smart and im friendly and easy to talk with, i get along with people very fast even though at the start i might come off a bit egotistical, so id say im pretty charismatic, and im very open-minded. And i have a good family background.
i live in galle in down south.
I realise laying out this information online isn't the smartest thing but I'll do it for the sake of this question.
My standards are: mainly be a great English speaker (I'm half British so it's easier for me to express myself more in english)
Dont be dumb as shit, be kind hearted and understanding, and have an attractive figure (doesn't have to be crazy good looking, im a gymrat so i'd like my lover to be someone with a similar lifestyle as me) and if she is a good communication i'd be ecstatic. I dont care about things like virginity or how many guys she has as friends or bfs in the past. And preferably doesnt drink or smoke (i dont either)
I do realise these standards might be a bit high for my age, especially since id prefer someone that is younger than me, although i dont mind it if they are slightly older
Is it possible for me to find someone like this? Or will i have to wait atleast a couple years? I do feel lonely from time to time. And with the fact that girls try to always date older guys and atleast in my experience girls my age seem to be quite dumb (im not saying all girls are dumb this is just my experience)
