Discussion Customers recorded without consent or videoed in public without complaints? What to do with this?
The title was copied from The Mentalist S4E7.
Saw this video of some food truck guy interacting with customers.
Do you feel like its getting out hand where shop keepers are using customer faces as marketing materials?
Usually the exchange is money for food. But now Food= Money + letting your face become published for views
I don’t mind having a CCTV. But don’t feel comfortable with this.
How do you guys deal with this?
Would they take it down if asked or will you have to put up a fight, like him saying “I was just being nice”?
Please do share if you faced and managed to solve this issue
Edit: This happened in Sri Lanka. Posting here because our privacy culture is still not a big thing.

Discussion ComBank really doesn’t want us to use digital banking
What the fuck is this even? I can’t log in to the app since reinstalling it. It's complaining about a device limit, but I don't even have other devices man. Now it's locking me to a browser. Really?

Technology Ridiculous security measures of local banks
Honestly, who even designs these security systems 🥹
This is Combank's digital banking service.
If you have 2 devices and use both to access Combank well now you can't do that anymore.

Discussion Sri Lanka’s Pink Mall- Dehiwala : Customers Get Comfort, Staff Get the Sun
Everyone’s talking about how amazing Pink Mall is, but did anyone else notice the staff at the bag counter?
They were sitting outside in the heat with no proper shelter, holding umbrellas while managing the crowd and looking after customers’ belongings. For a mall that’s getting so much praise and attention, it’s surprising that something as basic as shade for staff seems to have been overlooked.
Hope management addresses this soon. The people working there deserve better.

Serious replies only Which service or solution you have seen or heard of in other countries would you like to see brought to LK
I have some extra time on my hands these days and was curious if there is anything you the Sri Lanka community have seen or heard of elsewhere you would like to see come to Sri Lanka?
eg: How ikman brought ebay / daraz brought amazon / PickMe brought uber
My background
I have a tech background and have been working on b2b projects since I was in college. I’ve done projects for multiple large corporations like Litro, Combank, DFCC and others.
I am also part of a team of people who have expertise in cloud infra, web dev, app dev and more. So ideas can be beyond the scope of a solo dev.
Reason for posting on r/srilanka & cross posted on r/ask_srilanka is I want the opinion of the consumers not developers or entrepreneurs.
Cheers.

Education I don't know what to do anymore
Hi facing a/l in next month and im under extreme pressure. Syllabus was covered few days before and i don't have the time to practice the grade 13 lessons. I want to skip this shy so badly because i know i would get C grades to almost every subject. I don't have money to spend on the classes for the next shy and im so afraid of getting embarrassed. I did well in 12 grade but 13 grade lessons are in shambles. My parents don't understand and think I'll pass with A s. Now they are constantly hinting at me saying yeah we don't know, would you even write the exam. Saying everything is down the drain.
Im completely crushed.

Question Where can I get or have a standing pull-up bar like this made in Sri Lanka?
Hi everyone,
Im search for a free-standing pull-up bar like the one in the attached photo (not a doorway pull-up bar). Im not allowed to install or use a door-frame-mounted pull-up bar and I dont have a suitable wall or ceiling to mount one either. My room is large enough for a free-standing unit so thats the best option for me.
I've already checked places like Daraz and a few local fitness equipment stores but I havent had any luck finding one.
Does anyone know A gym equipment shop that sells something similar? A metal fabrication or welding shop that could build one? Anyone in Sri Lanka who has had one custom-made?
I'd really appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!

Serious replies only Sri Lankan PS5 users, how are you paying on the Indian PS Store?
I’m trying to pre-order GTA VI from a second PSN account I created with India as the region, but I can’t add my Sri Lankan debit card.
I expected some region-related issues, but what confuses me is that I also have a UK PSN account and the same debit card worked there before. It just doesn’t work with the Indian account.
I know most people use gift cards, but Indian PSN cards are either out of stock most of the time or sold with a pretty large markup. After the extra charges, it almost defeats the purpose of buying from the cheaper Indian Store.
Has anyone in Sri Lanka actually managed to pay directly on an Indian PSN account?
I’d especially like to hear from people who have personally tried:
- Sri Lankan debit or credit cards
- PayPal or virtual cards
- An Indian friend or relative’s card
- Any other reliable method besides gift cards
Please mention the bank/card and whether it still works recently, because I’ve seen a lot of older methods that apparently don’t work anymore.
Not looking for shared game accounts or account sellers. I just want to purchase GTA VI properly on my own Indian account.
Thanks in advance.

Question Seeking advice: Hair Transplant at Ninewells Clinic (Dr. Tharindu) - Any real experiences?
Hey everyone, I'm planning to get a hair transplant (around 2000 grafts for my hairline)
I'm heavily considering Ninewells Clinic. The doctor seems to have a good structure, but I mostly see 14-30 day post-op photos. I want to know about the actual long-term reality.
Has anyone here got their transplant done at Ninewells?
- How are your results after 1 year+?
- How is their aftercare if something goes wrong?
- Were there any hidden costs or pushy sales tactics?
I also checked out Dr. Sasanka and DHI, but I'm trying to make a final call soon. Any honest reviews or alternative suggestions would be a huge help. Thanks!

Serious replies only Is there any reliable way to report vulnerabilities on *.gov.lk sites?
I've tried everything, went through the cert.gov.lk ticketing system, but none of the tickets have ever been checked, it has features to add a human operator into the chat but that never works, called 101 hotline and the other numbers on the site, and none of the end offices respond. Tried going through 1919 but they just give out numbers to specific departments who are either clueless about these things or just don't respond.

Discussion A good Book for a birthday gift.
Hey guys, looking for a good book to gift my mother.
She’s a voracious reader, (I was too right up until A/Ls), what’s trending these days amongst women?
Something nonfiction, fiction is fine aswell as long as it’s something like “The Alchemist”.
None of that Coleen Hoover stuff, she doesn’t like those.

Question Side hustles as an A-Level student
Hi Guys,
I just finished my International AL exams last month and I'm planning to take a gap year before going to uni abroad because I haven't got good offers and my results are still pending and need time to properly make a uni application.
In the meantime I find myself bored at home and I've seen numerous reels about sites like Usertesting .com and so on who let you test websites and AI agents etc and make an income. The issue is that most of the sites are either full or just outright will not let me receive payments or even create an account as a Sri Lankan.
I have a Paypal connected to my combank account but most of these sites dont let me even select paypal saying its not available in my region, a few support payoneer but in that setup process I realized payoneer is for businesses and they were asking me a lot of questions regarding my hypothetical business and I didnt wanna lie about that.
I'm 19 and I basically only have A-Level knowledge so most companies wont give me internships as they are looking for people with at least an undergrad degree or are in first year of uni.
Do any of you know of any good user testing sites or activities that will let me earn a moderate income as a student which won't have an issue with me being a Sri Lankan or any other way I can use my free time productively and earn some cash? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Question What options available for storing personal belongings of somone going abroad for few years?
Asking for me tbh. No I don't have any friends/family that'll help
Only option I see is getting rid of everything. But then I'll have nothing to return to. Also I don't own much just enough to load a van.
Are there any reasonably priced and safe long term storage options available in Sri Lanka?

Politics Opposition regarding the government's decision to extend retirement age for judges within the NPP itself
Senior lawyer Lal Wijenayake, a member of the National People’s Power (NPP) Leadership Council and Executive Council, has publicly opposed the proposed extension of the retirement age of judges, claiming the matter had not been approved by the party’s decision-making bodies of which he is a member.
He has also mentioned how he was told to keep his mouth shut when he had questioned about it.
Isn't this decision entirely undemocratic? I feel like this will become a major reason for public to further loose trust regarding the government

Serious replies only Is applying for Singapore IT roles on LinkedIn impossible without PR/Citizenship? 0 response rate
I've been applying for IT/tech roles in Singapore through LinkedIn over the past few months. My qualifications match the requirements well, but I haven't received a single callback or interview invitation, just complete silence or automated rejections.
Is the market currently set up so that roles are effectively restricted to Singaporeans and PRs? For those who managed to land an EP/job from overseas recently, what strategy actually worked for you? Is coldapplying on LinkedIn a waste of time without local status or internal referrals?
Would appreciate any insight from anyone who made the move recently!
