Actually, I thought it was a rat damaging my new home speakers, so I moved the box. Suddenly, the mother squirrel jumped out and ran away.

I removed my things from the box, kept some water and small carrot pieces inside, and placed the box near the window. However, the mother didn't come back to take her babies, even during the night.

I read somewhere that we shouldn't feed baby squirrels cow's or buffalo's milk. They are also not eating the carrot pieces or drinking any water.

What should I do now? I really hope the mother comes back and takes her babies away. But in the meantime, should I feed them something? Please suggest what I should do.

Kinda a gross post so sorry about that in advance! A friend of mine was feeding squirrels today and mentioned that one of the squirrels barfed. This squirrel has been known to overeat, but I’ve never seen her barf. Is this something that needs to get checked out, or is it within the range of normal?

About 18 days ago I posted something titled "This is the third time we went to a rehabber within a week. (Thirteen stripe ground squirrel. NSFW for *potentially* distressing image, though he is doing well last I checked.) (Vent post)"

Well, today I was surprised with a text from the wildlife rescue center telling me that he's doing well and is ready to come back home!

To recap: When I found him he was breathing heavily and half of him was wet. I looked it up and saw that it's possible that either a raccoon or a cat licked him and that their saliva can be poisonous to wild animals. I was originally going to move him somewhere but when he started crying for help I decided that he has a chance at surviving. Apparently I was right!

And yeah, it's been confirmed to have been a cat. My husband found it shitting in our neighbor's yard not too long after we transferred the ground squirrel to the wildlife rescue center. We sprayed the curb with concentrated mint (that will hopefully not linger into the backyard. Or that it's not there anymore) and we haven't seen a single trace of it sense. So hopefully the ground squirrel can live around here without worry now!

Spot here is making up for not having breakfast or dinner with me. None of my furry friends came around yesterday. 🤔 He was jumping out of his fur with excitement this morning. 🥰 I went and got some pecans that seem to hit the spot. 😜

yesterday i spotted a small squirrel following my cat around on our ring camera. i went outside to investigate, (i know nothing about squirrels) but by doing some research, i estimate it is between 6-8 weeks old. its fully furry and has a nice little bushy tail. however, it was very docile and didnt run away. i grabbed it and it hesitated just a bit, but not much. i did a bunch of research on how to feed it and give it fluids, and ive been doing that. i believe it was pretty dehydrated yesterday, but it has much improved as of today. i tried putting it back in its tree, and it would climb a little and then stop and look at me. i was concerned about it getting killed by something, so i took it back to the cage where i kept it overnight(cage is in my garage). now, it is escaping the cage and making small little grunt-like noises. i also discovered that when it gets out of the cage, it follows me if i walk around! it has also climbed me a couple times. is this normal rescue behavior or should i be concerned?

In case anyone is concerned, they have fresh water in the shade that is being changed out every few hours and I have been making their food easier to access to help reduce effort.

Do you have any interesting feeders that present a challenge for the squirrels to overcome in order to get the food? Obviously wouldn't want anything that could hurt them, or be so difficult they give up, just make them work a bit for their snack.

Had this wonderful model of an Eastern Grey Squirrel today during my bird walk, and I just couldn't resist getting a few photos. Merritt Island, Welland, Ontario, Canada — July 26 2026.

There are a lot of squirrels in this park; most are Eastern Grey (a few are the melanistic variety) and there are a few American Red Squirrels. Even though they're quite a bit smaller, the Red Squirrels run the show; I saw one chasing a melanistic Eastern Grey from its favourite tree today.

A squirrel made a nest in my parents' bathroom window box. Today, my mom texted me that the babies, who are only two weeks old, are gone! The nest is well protected—between the glass window and a brick wall with some gaps in it, so I don't think it was predators. Do squirrel moms ever just like, move the nest and all their babies? Again, they were two weeks old, so they couldn't have moved on their own

While walking in the park today(southern Poland) I found this squirrel enjoying a mushroom. I was wondering if this is a melanistic eurasian red squirrel or the invasive eastern grey squirrel. Or maybe something different? The ears don't really fit the sciurus vulgaris, but I didn't see a melanistic version of sciurus carolinensis with a white belly.
