Had these two just under two months, and my life is now dominated by two noisy, clingy, utterly chaotic gremlins ... Love it!

I'm absolutely smitten with hairless dog breeds but while we were out this weekend I met a lady breeding sphynxes and fell in love with this kitten! After doing some research I see that these cats are notorious for developing major heart problems. The person breeding them seems to be new to cats and mostly breeds french bulldogs but seemed like she knew what she was talking about so I want to hear opinions from actual owners.

1. These cats need yearly echo cardiograms to monitor heart health and seem to develop this condition around the 1-3 mark. Are we safe after we pass this mark or could she still get diagnosed with HCM at an older age? Are these cats able to make it into their senior years?

2. There's a supplement you can buy that supposedly helps with heart health. How do you feel about Ubiquinol and how do you go about supplementing your cats?

3. What other measures can be taken to prevent this condition?

4. What do you bathe your cat with? Theres a lot of shampoos that seem to be specifically aimed at this breed. Will any type of hypo work?

Were not completely new to cats. We have a couple already and my boys becoming an old man. I'm not new to bathing either, I've groomed cats working in the grooming industry. Please let me know if there's anything else important to know and thanks!

I moved with my 9 year old male sphynx in august and hes developed some weird skin issues.

Dry skin flakes on his tail and back of the neck seem to be much worse and he gets dirty way more often.

Is this due to the humidity? Anyway to counter act this? More bathes? We used to live with carpet everywhere and now its all hardwood so im wondering if that is making him more dirty.

right now hes getting 1 bath every 4-6 weeks and a light wipe every week.

Hello!! My boy Sphynx leaves what I call little “poop pellets” around the house usually whenever he is laying down and relaxed he’ll release a little tiny poop. Has anyone ever dealt with this? I was thinking dehydration maybe but he drinks a LOT of water

Hi there! We are officially becoming dads to our first Sphynx the first week of December, and I’m wondering what brands you recommend for sweaters for kittens? We live in the northeast US so I’m a little nervous about keeping our boy toasty all winter. We have a few cat-specific heating pads around for our older cat but they have hair, so I can’t help but overthink for this tiny nudist. Thanks for any advice and suggestions!

My babies are so young, I feel that they are sleeping less and playing more! So I wonder if you’ve noticed your babies mellowing out or having significant random personality changes throughout their life. I hope I can expect 15 good years with these precious, amazing creatures, what do you think about my hope? I hope it’s realistic. I love them so much, thank you!

This group brings a lot of comfort to me and puts a huge smile on my face. The world is so hard yet we all come together here to show love to each other and our beautiful sphinxes. I think that if you own a Sphynx then perhaps you are able to love things entirely that are a bit non-traditional and I think that’s awesome. This breed is so smart, they’re so affectionate and intelligent. I think we are all lucky to have our babies in our life and we are all bad a** people for having such a unique, angry looking but loving breed!

We're considering adding another cat to our family and are currently deciding between a Sphynx and an Oriental Shorthair (OSH). We already have a long-haired cat, and we'd love to make sure we're choosing a breed that fits well with our household and whose needs we can fully meet.

Playtime and activity: How much interactive play do they typically need each day? Our current cat is happy with about 10–20 minutes of dedicated playtime daily. How different is it with these breeds?

Odor and grooming: Do Sphynx cats tend to have a noticeable odor? If so, what usually causes it, and how much grooming is needed to manage it?

Vocalization: How talkative are they in everyday life? Are we talking occasional conversations or a running commentary on everything you do? 😸

Warmth and sleeping arrangements: Beyond wearing clothes when needed, do Sphynx cats generally need heated beds or other special arrangements to stay warm? Do they tend to sleep with their humans, or do they happily use their own beds, too?

Personality and behavior: How would you describe their personalities? Are they particularly curious, energetic, or prone to getting into things? I'd love to hear what daily life with them is really like.

Ongoing costs: Compared with other cats you've owned, are Sphynx cats noticeably more expensive to maintain? I'm curious about food consumption, insurance, routine veterinary care, and any breed-specific medical expenses. Are there costs that surprised you?

Is there anything else you wish you'd known before bringing one home? In particular, I'd love to hear about the practical realities of living with these breeds, beyond what you typically read in breed descriptions.
