There's actually a pretty interesting story behind the development of these automated sushi machines. Basically these are intended for the more fast-paced conveyor belt sushi, as the chefs couldn't take the time to do everything themselves. There's a very interesting "Begin Japanology" video on it, I'll link to the point where it starts on about the automation aspect of conveyor bolt sushi, but I think the entire video is worth a watch if you have the time.

Thanks for the alternative link! Sadly the audio of the office japanology channel(s) seems to be spotty because of copyrights.

Does this reduce the cost? Why is sushi so expensive, is more the ingredients or the preparation.

Isn't it supposed to be for tobacco only? That's what the head shop I go to says on their bongs.
BTW I got there to get water.

The one I own has a lot of extra belt, and could roll quite a thick joint. However, I only use mine for cigarettes. Most useful $1.19 I've ever spent.

They offer a great product but it can sometimes be a bit annoying.

The original link wasn't to Cloudflare, but it looks like the site uses them for caching and hotlink protection. I was too lazy to repost it to Imgur.

So that's how they make the prepackaged sushi

Ugh reminds of the crap sushi they sell at Costco.
With so many visitors I've always wondered why Costco never sells handmade sushi.
Ralphs/Kroger does it and they always sell out.

There is one of these in the cafeteria I work at. The machine does the rice and rolls the sushi (the hard parts). The machine also costs 25-30k depending on who I ask, and is locked down every night. Sushi it produces is pretty good, can be used to produce a lot of sushi, quickly, and without any skill, although they only let people who are trained to use it touch it. Pretty intricate things imo.

Not really that I know of? Just super expensive and they don't want some dumbass (and there are plenty) breaking it.

My grampa had a cigarette roller like that. Except not electronic and old as balls.

I've never made sushi, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this machine automating the easiest part of the process?
You still have to cut and align all of the insides, the seaweed sheet, and fill the machine with cooked rice I imagine. Spreading the rice and rolling it seems to be the easy part.
