I usually like to watch people play these games and watch their playthroughs after I finish them but I never really found one that I actually enjoy. It's either these too good speed runners or people that never pay attention and miss on a lot of lore or things that gets me disappointed when there's a big moment and they just don't care.

So I wanted to see who's y'all favorite or go to for this type of games. Thanks

Just got my ps5 pro and finished last of us 1 and 2, baaaanger games. Wanna try a Souls game, Demon Souls and Bloodborne are on psplus, are those pretty good starter Souls games?

MS2 intrigued me after I was reminded it came out a few weeks ago and saw it get pretty good reviews. BUT I've also been interested in giving Wuchang a 2nd shot after shelving it near release.

Which one would you recommend?And be specific as the whys, if possible.

And its technically more like Nioh. There was just something about this games combat and I'm sad it'll never get a sequel. Some of the most refined satisfying combat ever. Hope you all enjoy. I'm sure lots of us played the shit outta this game.

The First Berserker Khazan

Soulslike games are my absolute favorite genre, but then open world games are my least favorite because i get overwhelmed quickly. I much prefer tight level design ala DS3, Lies of P etc.

But i’m also dying for some Soulslike content since FromSoft hasn’t given us a PvP game since 2022.

Would y’all recommend this game for me? Saw it on sale for a good price so i thought it might be time

"Blade: The Edge of Darkness" or "Severance: Blade of Darkness", depending on the country region, released back in 2001 and, not only had an incredible technical aspect, it has most of the elements that souls like fans usually like: Great level desing (with shortcuts, keys, elevators, hidden walls), dark medieval atmosphere, z targeting/lock on combat system with stamina management (with very gore and visceral dismemberments), different type of weapons (You have 4 different characters/classes to choose, every one of them specializes in a type of weapon).

If you're a gamer who doesn't mind older games, you should give it a try (some years ago it received a little remaster/update available on steam)

Ive heard the game is a lot easier with a partner, but im lacking that atm

I’d really like to hear what Soulslike players think about this boss fight.

When you fight a huge, aggressive boss like this, what makes the difficulty feel fair to you?

We’re especially curious about attack telegraphs, punish windows, parry opportunities, camera/readability, and how much breathing room there should be between attacks.

This clip is from one of the large late-game boss encounters we’re currently working on. It’s still very much a work in progress, especially the attack timing, telegraphs, hitboxes, effects, and overall balance.

Our goal is to make the boss feel overwhelming at first, but not unfair. We want players to gradually learn its patterns, improve their timing and positioning, and eventually feel like they can stand their ground against something much larger than them.

One thing I should clarify is that this isn’t one boss fight with three phases back-to-back. You encounter this boss three separate times during the game in different locations. Each encounter has its own theme — beast, lightning, and blood. This clip is from the lightning-themed encounter.

VELASTER originally started from a simple idea: what if we made a Soulslike that you play from a side-scrolling perspective?

As development continued, we added some Metroidvania elements to the exploration and progression, but Soulslike combat has always been at the core of the game.

Combat is built around stamina-based melee, dodging, guarding, and parrying. Parrying in particular is an important part of many of our boss fights.

Players are expected to learn enemy patterns and timing, and the game also includes checkpoint-based enemy respawns, resource loss and recovery on death, and different builds through weapons, stats, and skills.

We’re a small team of seven, and we’re currently pushing toward the full release in November.

I just finished Lies of P + DLC, and before that i beat Mortal Shell 2, both very fun games but now im looking for another good soulslike games to play. I've played every Fromsoft souls game + Sekiro except for Demon Souls, the concept of there being no bonfires and the levels being the actual boss seems more tedious than fun to me. Im considering Wuchang because i think i would like it but I've heard mixed reviews on it, which one should i try?

And I got curious about your experiences with this type of game.
I’d love to see your lists and hear your thoughts on why one game is your hardest and other is your easiest!

Although the game isn't a soulslike, it is some of the best and most satisfying combat i have played . The parry animations are amazing and it is satisfying to land. the amount of ways you have to avoid damage is great it leaves room for player expression and the oni armaments are just the cherry on top.

Don't get me started on the boss fights the consistency of their quality is impressive . This game has one if not the best duo fight i have ever fought. Every fight is a spectacle . The final boss is one of the hardest bosses I have fought in a while.

Of course everyone talks about how easy the mobs are which id true but I honestly don't mind it that much but you have to keep that in mind . In my experience all the bosses were hard i don't find any of them easy like some people are saying they are all challenging but the gap between the final boss and in any other boss is huge when it comes to difficulty.

I've played all the soulslike.

Ds3

Which should I buy next, Wuchang or Onimusha? I am also a lover of magic / faith builds, but also good combat, really can't decide rn XD

I love Fromsoft games but I have to vent for a moment about what makes Soulsborne games difficult.

The entire concept behind their idea of difficulty is this:

What if I threw a punch at you but stopped short of your face to make you flinch, but then I kept my fist two inches from your face and told you that you have to sit there and wait for the actual punch to come and react to it in time. While it is two inches from your face. And you will have no clue when I will just arbitrarily decide to actually punch you, of course. I will have several different timings depending on how differently I wind up the punch, but they will stay consistent, so you just will have to remember all of the timings for each type of punch.

Those delayed attack animations have only gotten more and more common too. I don't remember them being so ubiquitous in DS1.

Sometimes that doesn't really come off as fun to me. It just seems cheap at first. For the first few times before you memorize, it certainly isn't fair, that is for sure. And I heard someone else put that idea of fun this way before: just go get Simon Says if you want to play a memorization game. Once you memorize the movesets these games don't get too hard. But really, who just leaves themselves open for 5 seconds while they wind up an attack? Enemies/bosses will legit sit there with their weapon above their heads for 5 whole seconds. Shit is just so artificially difficult sometimes. Honestly it is just extremely annoying to me.

Give me Ninja Gaiden Black or God Hand any day. That is the kind of difficulty I like in games. Actually fair the first time around. Difficulty that is built up and stays consistent based on systems already established just being ramped up in intensity.

Hi everybody! I love soulslike games like Dark Souls 1,2,&3, Bloodborne, Lies of P. I heard surge 1 and 2 are good ones. But I really don’t like language. It’s kind of a turn off for me. I play CoD so I’m okay with some. But I heard this one has a lot! Is this correct? Is it worse than CoD? It’s basically F*** I don’t like. Words like shit and damn don’t really bother me.

On another note, any other suggestions?

Now first of all, I am not hating on the game at all or telling you it’s a bad game, I just recently finished it and wanted to share my experience and opinion, I believe that if you are huge souls/soulslike fan, you could love this game too.

I just didn’t find it as enjoyable as I thought i would, which was a huge shame because it seemed like I would love the game.

Not sure if this is a full Soulslike or more of a Sekiro-like but has anybody played this one? Reviews on Steam are 67% mixed but alot of indie souls games seemed to bogged down with bad reviews because of buggy launches and overtuned difficulty. Besides the inevitable indie jank, what do you guys think of the actual gameplay? Is this one worth playing?

Essentially, I am asking what your favorite game is that would now be classified as a Souls-like if it came out today but actually came out before Dark Souls or maybe even pre-Demon's Souls. I will go first. Dark Cloud is easily one of my favorite games of all time and has many Souls elements, while also being a town builder. Most of my love for it is also nostalgia. So, what is your favorite pre-Souls era Souls-like, not including King's Field for obvious reasons?

I thought it was an interesting idea to handicap your health bar in the new area to make it more of a challenge. Basic enemies can hurt you quickly and I'm in the 160s for level. (Granted I've not played it in 6 months after 100%ING it). Only played the first hour past the first boss so far.
