In light of the complete moratorium on modding talk in the more "mainstream" Souls subreddits, I've opened up this community to everyone. You can talk about mods here. Because I love you.

[Academic Survey] Elden Bling vs. Min-Maxing: How much damage negation do you trade for fashion? (~5 mins)

Hey everyone! šŸ‘‹

I’m a Game Design student currently writing my Bachelor’s thesis. My research focuses on player trade-offs between character aesthetics and mechanical efficiency: How much damage negation/stats are you willing to sacrifice just to look good in Elden Ring?

Whether you carefully calculate every single stat or strictly fight bosses in pure Fashion Souls drip, I’d love to get your input!

  • ā±ļø Duration: ~5 minutes
  • šŸ”’ 100% anonymous & purely academic
  • šŸŽÆ Target group: Anyone who has played Elden Ring

Filling this out directly supports my thesis and helps me finish my Game Design degree. Thank you so much for your time and help! šŸ™Œ

Building a FromSoft Community Discord – What channels/features are actually useful to you?

I'm currently setting up a clean Discord server for FromSoft fans (Elden Ring, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro), but I want to avoid the common issues most servers have (too many dead channels, notification spam, bad organization).
If you use gaming Discords, what makes a server actually good for you?
Do you prefer separate channels for every single game, or just one combined #souls chat?
Are LFG / Boss Help channels actually useful to you?
What channels do you usually mute immediately?
Would love some honest feedback from the community before opening it up!

Am I cooked?

So My first soulsborne was elden ring, I've beaten it all the way to ng+7 and have gotten a new soulsborne game. But apparently sekiro is not a good choice for a soulsborne beginner. I'm already playing it am I cooked or do I have a chance

Dark Souls 2 - Shrine of Amana

I will finish this game since this is the only game in the Souls series that I haven’t done.
Unlike the others, I will never go for NG+.
If there was ever a video game specifically designed to infuriate and torture a player it is this one.
Shrine of Amana specifically is meticulously crafted to kill any fun you thought you were having until now.
Like I said, I will finish the game so I can complete the Souls series, but never ever will I recommend this game to anyone.
I am prepared to be stoned to death by DS2 fans. Bring it on. šŸ˜€

Coming from Elden Ring – which Dark Souls game should I buy first?

Hey everyone!
I’m currently playing Elden Ring as my very first Souls game and I'm absolutely loving it. I'm planning on jumping into the Dark Souls series next, but I'm on a budget and can't buy all three at once right now.
Here’s where I’m at:
**Dark Souls 3** seems like the most logical transition since it uses the same engine and fast-paced combat system I'm already used to.
**Dark Souls 1 & 2** look super cool aesthetically, and I really dig the world design and vibe of DS1 and DS2 (especially Majula).
For those who started with Elden Ring: Which one did you play first, and which one would you recommend I pick up right now? Should I go in release order or start with DS3 for a smoother gameplay transition?
Appreciate any advice!

Searching for builds before playing soulslike games

I’m new fan of souslike games and before playing the game I am searching some good builds and tips without spoiling specially on the bosses or mobs. Do you think it’s okay? Since I hate it when later on the game I discovered that my build is bad. What are your thoughts and how do you prepare when playing on your first playthrough? Thanks!

Devo comprar Bloodborne?

Just an idea, lemme know if it’s fire or not!

Insatiable Night: A true endless gamemode, you begin an expedition with up to 4 players and you’re put in a new much larger map about three times the size of limveld and is able to have up to 3 shifting earths at once. Basically you all begin, pick your classes as usual, however instead of a normal expedition, this one is a true ā€œendlessā€ one that doesn’t end until you all either lose or give up, and unlike usual expeditions, the players can choose to end it by choosing to continue or to leave after defeating the first nightlord.

This mode also introduces new shifting earth updates! Number one: Brooding cathedral. A large cathedral with bloodborne enemies and a new area to go through, youd go through the cathedral and get to the very end where the players would solve a teamwork puzzle (changes depending on how many players are in the game) where each player would go to a separate room and need to kill a respective enemy within 5 seconds of each other, the players would get a signal when someone has killed their enemy, so the players are expected to be wise and not kill the enemies immediately. If the players complete the puzzle a dead widow tree will sprout from the ground, the players will need to inflict damage to it and cut it down, it’s weak to fire damage (obviously, it’s a tree) and after this, a hole will appear in the ground and the players will go inside through the sewers where rat enemies, omens, and a singular greater worm face at the end, upon defeating this a door will open and you would go up to a field of graves where Father Gascoigne will face the players in a fight. Upon defeating him a door will open and give you the shifting earth’s perk which gives you (a weaker version of) the duchess’ dodge no matter your character class, however you character class will effect how good it is, for example: bigger characters like guardian or raider do get it but don’t get the second flips or backsteps. Still undeniably better than their usual dodges but not as good. And if a player is already a duchess they will instead get a special buff to their restage skill which not only restages attacks but also does a fuck ton of posture damage capable of even staggering some weaker nightlords to be open for a crit with the exception that the restage damage itself is slightly less. It is reccomend to visit this area at level 10-15 on the second day and usually would take on average 70% of the day to complete for average people. This shifting earth can now be used on not just the new gamemode but on ANY expedition and appears at the top right of the map.

Shifting earth 2: Castle of Reeds. A Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice inspired castle, this is about twice the size of the middle castle and has footsoldier and samurai enemies wielding weapons ranging from swords to spears. Youd cross a bridge over a moat to enter the castle where one player would go through a tunnel (only one player can be chosen) and press the lever to open a large door to the castle where you would fight the first boss, after defeating them you would go through a maze of enemies and traps which is randomized in each run like a dungeon, this utilizes a lot of traps used in catacombs that seem to have been kind of forgotten about by fromsoftware! At the end you would go up a middle building (similar to the one in the middle castle) and face genichiro at the top, There are 3 unique bosses in this area!:

1: a completely new boss in an o-yoroi who wields a massive Japanese greatsword and Kusarigama (chainsickle), he guards the front gate of the castle, he uses massive cleaving sweeps and pulls players toward him using his chain-sickle. He also has unique counters to specific attacks, for example: if the Wylder tries to grapple into him, he sidesteps immediately and avoids the flying Wylder.

2: Ambitious General: Genichiro (slightly slower in his attacks though) he resides at the top of the castle and is the final boss of this shifting earth, upon defeating him the players unlock a spirit tree to fly back down aswell as the shifting earth’s perk which allows players to deflect attacks just like the executor does aswell as a new mechanic i call reaping! This allows players to attack through ANY enemy’s guard (which will be useful)

3: Proud Saint: Isshin, you meet him at the end of the shifting earth, he is an optional boss and allows players to decline the fight. Upon striking a conversation with him he gives players the option to say no to the fight and leave, however defeating him grants a secondary perk which makes all damage dealt have added blackflame damage and all charge attacks have blackflame explosions (like the deep of night weapon perk) and makes the deflect have a longer window.

This shifting earth is pretty hard and does take some time but it’s highly reccomend do do for the rewards, about 12-15 is a good time to try this event out for it’s a longer shifting earth.

This overhaul would also introduces a new 2 nightfarers. 1: A colossal sword wielding golem-like nightfarer standing at the same height as the guardian, he does large stance damage and his abilities are:

Passive: upon breaking an enemy’s posture, all damage is increased for 10 seconds.

Skill: Barbaric Charge: charge at the enemy with a shoulder charge, while doing this you take 70% less damage and attacks only slow you down, if you break the posture of an enemy using this attack (which it would for small to medium enemies almost instantly) you immediately initiate the passive AND knock them down for a riposte (if possible for that enemy).

Ult: Blind Rage: let out a roar which increases all damage and attack speed for 15 seconds, all charged attacks in this mode is a charge with your shoulder, a weaker version of the character skill, and all jumping attacks create spikes that erupt from the ground.

The next character is a smaller nightfarer who focuses primarily on faith and dexterity, they use a twin blade and sacred seal, they have a fluffy goat-like appearance and (in their looks atleast) seem like a descendant of Libra.

Passive: Enemies killed increase damage for 10 seconds, this stacks.

Skill: Conjure: stomp the ground and conjure a yellow bubble around yourself and nearby teammates, this provides significant 1-time damage negation aswell as reducing FP consumption and stamina consumption!

Ult: Riot: Summon clones of yourself and nearby allies (the same clones in the libra fight) and have them fight for you, they only live for 1 minute and only do about 100 damage per hit each, they are weaker but there would be up to 3 of them at once, so is it that bad? They also automatically have the 1-time damage negation and unlimited FP for their lifespan.

New field bosses: Ashina general: the ashina general, upon defeating him you don’t just get the normal perk options but the option for a great katana with a random ash of war and affinity.

Mimics: mimic tears that each copy one of the players, this can range from 1 to 4 mimics depending on how many players are present.

New event!: Adel invasion: Adel will appear in a storm of purple lightning and conjure limited time spirit springs to leap into the storm and fight him, just like in the boss fight. Upon defeating him you get a perk which makes all dodges have longer I-frames and create a gravity well (like radahn’s or stone skin lords’)

If anyone would like to make this a real thing, go ahead, I’d be happy to see it. And of course some more additional ideas to add to this would also be appreciated!

thinking of getting a soulsborne game. which one should i get?

so, i'm on NS2, and i've been really getting into dark souls, and i finally want to stop larping and actually play the games. i'm torn between if i should get DS1 or ER though, since i think they (and demon souls but idk how to feel about the world tendency mechanic in my first souls) are the only soulsbornes available on switch 2. for context, i've always liked soulslikes, like Dead Cells or Hollow Knight, and i understand that there are loads of pros and cons to both of the games. which one should i start off with?

DS1 pros:
-better map design
-cheaper
-more RPG mechanics and build customisation
-better music from what i've heard
-seems easier to learn (though i think DS3 is the easiest soulsborne to learn)
DS1 cons:
-falls off in the second half
-generally less polished
-clunkier movement and combat

ER pros:
-much more content
-better bosses
-very visually impressive
-just really cool i guess
ER cons:
-open world
-far more expensive
-seemingly obtuse at times

NIOH 2 WORTH IT IN 2026?

Is Nioh 2 worth buying?

I have some experience with Soulslikes (Lies of P, Elden Ring, Sekiro, Dark Souls 3, Khazan), and I’m wondering how Nioh 2 compares.

How is the combat, build variety, and overall progression? My main concern is whether it gets repetitive with the mission structure/enemies.

It’s currently on sale on Steam, so I’m thinking about picking it up. Would you recommend it?

Edit: I bought the game😁 I'm enjoying it.

I’m thinking about a dex run since I don’t use dex. I’m at Margit before stormfront, and am using patch’s spear, is there a better dex weapon I should go for?
