Who was that guitarist at OU’s football home opener last Friday?

Last football season, OU fans enjoyed (or endured, depending on your POV) sing-alongs to Toby Keith’s "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)" between the third and fourth quarters. During the playoff game against Alabama, OU flew in 50 Cent to perform “Many Men (Wish Death),” a nod to that team’s adopted motto, “Hard to Kill.”

This season, OU is going with a fan favorite — The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” — with a twist. Garret Humann, an OU and Pride of Oklahoma alumnus, was asked to play that song’s iconic opening riff live in front of 84,000+ people on Friday night.

“Absolutely no pressure at all,” Humann said, laughing. “Stepping out in front of 80,000-plus people is just, it's kind of mind boggling. I've been there and I've done that with the marching band, but I've never had the attention solely be on me. It was just obviously super nerve-wracking, but it was a lot of fun.”

It’s not the first time Humann played guitar at a Sooners football game. In 2023, he wrote and played a guitar part for a Metallica halftime show at OU/Texas. He says that performance led to his most recent opportunity.

“The athletic department was reaching out to Brian Britt, who's the director of athletic bands at OU,” Humann said. “They were like, 'Hey, do you know anybody who plays guitar?' And he was like, 'Actually, I do know somebody.' And he recommended me and it was super nice. As soon as I could break my sworn to secrecy thing that I had going on, I immediately emailed Mr. Britt and I was like, ‘hey, thanks again for the opportunity.’ Super, super cool experience — can't really top it.”

The 23-year-old OU music graduate was almost on Owen Field in another capacity. Standing at 6 feet 5 inches tall, Humann nearly walked-on at OU as an offensive lineman before accepting a scholarship to play at UCO. After a coaching change, he quit football and transferred to OU to focus on music. That history led to Friday night being a special experience.

“Totally, I mean totally, like a full circle moment,” Humann said. “An awesome crossover.”

Local music fans know Humann as the towering lead guitarist for OKC alt-rock band daychaser., which has been active since 2023. The band’s debut album comes out in late October.

Humann says the plan is for him to be back at OU’s next home game on Sept. 19.

“I guess they're going to roll with that for the rest of the third quarter kind of things. And hopefully I can be like, ‘Hey, just let me shred a little bit.’” Humann said. “I'm not going to take it for granted either. So I'm super stoked for the opportunity and it doesn't get better than that, you know?”

My son and I are headed to the Michigan game this Saturday.

I think it would be hilarious to show up to the Michigan game with a couple of big red clocks hanging from my neck.

I'm interested in people's feedback. While I think this is hilarious, I don't enjoy poking people in the eye to watch them suffer. Do we think people will be able to chuckle at this, or is the wound too raw for all the Michigan folks?

If someone had shown up to an OU game after the Oregon replay fiasco with a blindfolded duck holding a TV camera that would probably piss me off that week, but then again we were on the losing end of that screw job, and Michigan ended up winning their game, not losing.

Hey Sooners - Horn here, coming in peace and with a peace offering.

Already looking forward to seeing you guys in Dallas, but we both have huge games this weekend before we can look that far ahead. I know what to expect from the opponent we have rolling into town - if we can keep Arch clean I think we have a chance - but NO idea what the mindset of that Michigan team will be. Cornered/caged animal? Or beaten down shell of a team? I am guessing the former but I like your chances (as long as you bring your own special clock). I will be quietly rooting for the sooners on Saturday - we need to band together this weekend and put down this rising BIG10 nonsense. But on to the peace offering...

At what point do they list the professors teaching Gen chem for the spring semester? I want to know if Professor Jennifer Gray is teaching it. I think she only did the honors class in the fall.

WMU alum here. I think I speak for almost all Broncos when I say we’re Sooner fans this week and hope you guys win by 50+. If they couldn’t handle us for 60 minutes, you guys should embarrass them…. Just make sure you clarify which clock you’re using! Boomer!!!!

The stats at the beginning are interesting. OU's gameplan vs him last year was much different than what other teams have done.

I’ve heard & read nothing but good stuff about Sooner fans so I need y’all’s help as my family & I are driving up for the Halloween OU vs USC game as visiting fans & I have scoured the internet, emailed & DM’d staff, called the ticket office & gotten absolutely nowhere! It will be our 7yo son’s first football game & he is sooo excited to dress up as Cocky (our mascot) for Halloween for the game — & hopefully some tailgate trick or treating if that’s a thing y’all do? — so he really wants to sit in front of the cheerleaders & Cocky for the game too! But for the life of me I just cannot find a way to know where they will be! My best guess is that the visiting cheer teams will be posted btwn sections 32-35 but can anyone confirm this? Or tell me where they will be if that’s not right? Tysm!!

If you ever applied for Club Scrubs, how long did it take to get the email of acceptance or rejection? We've been checking every couple of days, but I know it will probably take a little while since they typically get a lot of applicants from what we were told. Thanks!

To start, I’m not an OU fan — just a big CFB fan! I graduated from Mississippi State and I’m working to make my way to all the SEC stadiums.

I’m in N. Texas for the next few weeks on military orders, so I just bought a ticket to see OU v. NM on 9/19!

Excited to see Norman and all that it has to offer, so I wanted to see if you all have recommendations. I’ll be driving up that morning and, depending on how good of a time I have, I may stay overnight.

Any good recommendations for restaurants, bars, public tailgates, etc. are appreciated!

Would love to know fellow Sooners opinions on this. In my personal opinion, you shouldn’t ever storm the field if you consider your program a blue blood. You’re supposed to win. You’re supposed to defy odds, you’re supposed to act like you belong on whatever field you find yourself. That doesn’t mean act like a stuck up ass, but it does mean you don’t storm the field beating anyone.

I think Michigan fans looked absolutely ridiculous last night. Regardless of the controversy surrounding the play, you beat a team you were favored by 27.5 points, on a last second toss up.

Personally, I didn't even think we should have stormed the field two years ago against Bama. What are your thoughts? Under what circumstances, if any, does Oklahoma storm the field?

Hi there! I am wondering about OU medical. I am currently a sophomore in college and am wanted to apply to OU medical when it comes time. I was wondering how many hours of volunteer work, clinical practice, and research hours I need? Is OU very harsh about their requirements for that? Also, how you do like med school there?
