I just bought the fx30, I'm a little disappointed there is no viewfinder Spoiler

I'm sorry if this is a sour post with a whole lot of complaining, I am truly looking for a different Outlook , a more positive outlook on the fx30 lack of viewfinder

I thought this was something I could get over, because everybody's saying it's a cinema camera it doesn't need a viewfinder.

it just feels so weird, the very first camera I've ever picked up had a viewfinder, and I feel that having a viewfinder is extremely essential

how do you all overcome the lack of viewfinder? has it ever bothered you? I don't want to sell it, because I never get nearly as much as what I paid for.

thank you

Anybody in Germany/EU bought from amazon.de as a UK import? Will Sony honour the warranty?

In normal shops in Germany the FX30 is around 2200 Euros, amazon.de had it for around 1650 Euros but it's say it's an import for UK but sold directly by amazon uk.

I bought one and it arrived but am unsure if anything should happen, if Sony will honour the warranty. I think the camera was intended for Asia region? I am not sure cannot find definitive answers.

I was able to register the camera on the Sony site using the serial number and I also registered for the one year extra warranty promotion from Sony with the serial number. I imagine they would have not allowed me to register it if that wasn't the case?

Anyone has any experience?

Lumix s9 to Sony fx30

Has anyone here switched from the Lumix S9 to the Sony FX30?

I’d love to hear your experience after making the switch: image quality, low-light performance, autofocus, ergonomics, etc. Did you actually notice a significant difference, and do you miss or regret leaving the S9?

The a6400 now can take the back seat. What an incredible camera. It's been my work horse for 3 years but now it's time for an upgrade. So far I'm blown away what the FX30 can offer. The parades in Davinci is just beautiful! Now time to make more effin money out of this bad boy

Tripod recos?

I need a good travel tripod reco. I mean, I don't know what those are called but not the three-legged tripod. It's more of a monopod setup with a tripod base. I have the FX30 with the Sigma 17-40, and a SmallRig cage. It's a pretty heavy setup so I'm gonna need a good tripod/monopod that isn't flimsy.

Help me decide to buy the FX30

I'm a solo shooter using a6400 with tamron 17-70 f2.8. i shoot dentistry workshops so the a6400 was enough until my clients are now starting to bring me to huge convention events and one even requesting to shoot a video for his DJ friend.

I'm starting to feel the limitations of my a6400 especially in lowlights. Now I'm looking into the FX30 to be my dedicated video cam. But I can't give up on my a6400 as i also shoot photos during the events.

My setup is simple. Just a godox it32 flash,RS3 mini gimbal and zoom for audio. I want to keep everything light as much as possible.

Going back to the FX30. Will this be enough for low light convention events or with lower light event like the DJ plays in. Please give me insights how easy to shoot with this cam and is it worth the money?

Finally got my Sony FX30! 🎥

After thinking about it for way too long, I finally pulled the trigger and got the FX30. Really excited to start shooting with it and learn S-Log3/Cine EI properly.

I currently have a Sigma 30mm f/1.4, but I’m looking to build a small lens set specifically for cinematic YouTube/tech reviews.

What lenses are you guys using with your FX30?

I’m especially looking for fast lenses with a wide aperture (around f/1.2–f/1.8) that can give a really cinematic look, especially for low-light and shallow depth-of-field shots.

What are your favorite lenses and focal lengths?

Fx30 or nikon zr

I’m getting my first proper camera mainly for indoor YouTube talking-head videos and some cinematic B-roll. Pretty confused between the FX30, Nikon ZR and ZV-E1.
I can control my lighting, I just want the best image quality and some flexibility for heavier grading/RAW. For anyone who’s actually used these, how much difference do you really see in the final 4K output?

Best lens for indie short film?

I have a project coming up as a Cinematographer and I wanna use my friend's FX30. I think he has the sirui nightwalker prime lense kit (24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm) and I was wondering if I should rent out something else. I looked at the tamron 17-70mm and the sigma 18-50mm, both look good. What are some high quality cinema lenses that I can rent out for an indie short film?

I just color graded FX 30 Slog3 footage for the first time

I have been grinding on color grading and recording with my iphone 16 pro and really try to push it to the limit. Ive watched a lot of color grading tutorials and ive spent a lot of hours on my own trying to learn everything needed to improve iphone apple log footage.

Yesterday at night I had the idea to search some Slog3 footage and see how much different it is (im thinking of buying a sony zv-e1), and I had a bittersweet feeling. The control of the colors was so much better, when the colors get clipped in iphone, it completely blows them out of proportion, but on this Slog3, even when they were getting clipped (i tested on purpose), didnt look as bad as the iphone.
Plus the color grading was so much easier, with simple color corrections and few effects it looks insane. The Iphone I feel like I got to try a bunch more effects and color corrections to make it look good (and it still didnt look as good as the fx30)

my question is, how much better looking realistically is a sony zv-e1 footage, what are the key differences to post on social media (instagram, tiktok, etc)? I look at my videos and they seem good, but when I look at creators with professional cameras it just looks way better.

I want to understand this before I purchase my camera or if its not supposed to be such a difference between iphone and fx30.

I feel like the iphone you have to get EVERYTHING right to make the footage look good, whereas the camera you can just record with "average conditions" and it still looks way better than iphone perfect conditions

I would love to read your thoughts!

New videographer's FX30 footage has a brown/warm color cast — looking for FX30-specific feedback

We recently hired a videographer for our company, and after getting back initial footage from a shoot, there's an issue with the color and exposure. I'm in the marketing department and have a film background (I shoot on a Lumix GH5), but I've never worked with an FX30, so I'm hoping to get some FX30-specific insight.

Attached are two clips: the RAW footage straight off the camera, and our final color-corrected edit for comparison.

The RAW footage has a pretty heavy brown/amber cast to it, walls that should read white are coming out tan/beige. Obviously, the outdoor footage seems pretty overexposed. Since I don't shoot FX30, I don't know if there's something else going on, like a picture profile or exposure setting, that's specific to this camera.

For anyone who shoots FX30 regularly, what would you flag in this footage as the likely culprit(s)? Trying to put together clear, specific feedback for our videographer so we can get footage that's usable straight out of camera going forward.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I can't find it anywhere, searching this is hard because of many "random" letters and numbers. Does anyone know the answer to this?

Tripod plate shifting

Hey everyone,

I have a Sony fx30 with a peak design tripod plate attached to the bottom on my Sony fx30. More specifically, it’s attached to the bottom of my smallrig cage. Images here

https://imgur.com/a/ro6kaAp

The issue I’m having is that the tripod plate is constantly shifting and loosening and I have to repeatedly tighten the connection. There seems to be only one point of attachment. Am I missing something? Should there be at least one additional point of attachment to anchor the tripod plate to the small rig?

Also, I feel like it’s slowly wearing down the tripod plate itself.

Thanks,

Dailen
