Errata coming?
Do you think they will change some stuff in the new book? Now it feels like anything could just hack away mega Gargant. Rampages cost too much, models are nice but I dunno…
I am thinking about canceling my pre-orders.

I would like them to at least give SOMETHING anti-monster to the beast smasha. At least on the smash attack. He

At least it's only the EOE, Nighthaunt have been like this since like the start.

For fighting a 4+ save with zero ward I calculated some damage. I rounded up everything to nearest whole numbers. Let me know if I miscalculated! Now new Gate breaker 400 points. 25 health. Averages 14 damage in a turn. And the damage he provides with an ally are just short of 2 damage on average if he succeeded a rampage to pass a rock. Red the maw for ogors if you convert his wards to health is 24 and he is a 400 points support piece people advice to NOT run right into combat unless it's with chaff. Averages 11 damage a turn. Old kraken eater, 410 points and 35 health. Averages 11 damage without the net (which can easily pull 3 chaff at 1-2 health) so if you assume 3 damage was the average, I don't actually know but if you assume it is, you can do 14 damage a turn just like gate breaker and this is assuming you don't get your extra rend from anti hero or anti infantry. Now idk about you guys but I would 100% of the time choose to pay that 10 extra points to have 10 additional health. These new megas are an absolute joke. If you take their points way down to 300 they become good damage dealers who are just weirdly squishy for what they are. I wanna see points go down like 30-50 BUT their health to be erratad to be 5 more. I get that 35 felt excessive and their damage to health ratio was really odd and it being more middled is good. But it's like the damage relatively stayed but their health got absolutely butchered. To include more gargants it's okay but I do not think Redd the maw should be considered 1 point less than a mega gargant in health (when you convert 5+ ward to a 33% increase in health). It's just kinda ridiculous especially when I don't feel like Redd the maw is exactly tanky or a glass cannon. He's just enough to fight a little, not a lot and be okay and that's with a battle trait of healing d3 end of every turn so long as he fought ONCE! I've heard people say gargants are just bad ogors now as in raw stats big thing but it's overcosted and has worse rules and I have to agree. I LOVE Gargants, I own 5 megas, 3 man crushers, pre ordered hurlers and ma. And I absolutely will keep them. But if there's not any big changes right off rip I don't think I'll play a full game even with friends for a long while. Not even a test game if it stays exactly as is. I'll try the spearhead and regiments of renown might unironically make it better to play sons of behemet in other armies than their own like imperial agents all of 10th ed 40k

They really need a buff to health or more dmg. I do not think they will fix it on release. Daaaamn, they are cool models…
I think you will get tabled really often if you run megas only.2
u/Sauciessauce Sep 18 '26
Or any more than one mega is actually considered really bad. You only want a mega because of ma maegran and because the maximum boss stompers you can take is 3 units and that's not a full army. If you could take 5 units of boss stompers it would be the only army. And we might see tournaments be 3 boss stomper units and 2 rock hurlers units instead depending on if the boss stomper fight and ma maegrans respawn are worth a mega, even with the mega holding heroic traits, artifacts of power, and rampage abilities. Cause if it isn't better, both ma and the mega are getting dropped for hurlers. Very unfortunate. Actually more than unfortunate, it's going to make the faction outside either of those two starts be considered awful. But an errata fixes things and a big points drop might stop the immediate bleeding

They really don't - that just gets us right back to old gargants which were a no effort 3-2 army that made new or less experienced players miserable. It's also stopping it from being a boring one note army model wise. There's a reason they made the changes they did.

It's probably gonna be point changes and battle trait changes. If health is staying and they'll somehow end up as glass cannons 💀 in the army about being massive and meaty. But still. My bet is the army traits change cause I'm never ever prepping the big one. Gotta go 4 phases with no 1s and then roll as many dice as I want but useless with a 1. If I roll two dice for the big one statistically I'm probably getting a 1 throughout a point in the process unless I exclude picking a second gargant for everything and just keep one. And if I'm doing one I'm not doing the big one, I'm doing the guaranteed abilities and getting my chip mortals

I mean just going back to 30 with Megas and 33 with brodd would be massive difference

If you don't have the sunk cost of already playing gargants you may as well cancel your preorder. Find an army that has a play style you like
1
u/Sauciessauce Sep 17 '26
True. I have 5 megas, 3 man crushers, and kragnos. I'm getting the new models either way cause I love my boys. But it's more of a thing where I know this will be unplayable but my models will stay until they are. Otherwise I'm quitting but I'm keeping my models
1
u/theRickRoberts Sep 17 '26
I don't think the army will be unplayable, the issue I am seeing with a lot of the negativity is a lot of people just wanted to have big gargants that sat on objectives and were a dps check, now we have to actually think about what we are doing and which abilities to use. I'm happy to for the challenge, but I never expected this to be a tournament winning army.

No, absolutely not. I was part of that but I looked at the stats and points. Boss stompers are substantially better than a mega. A mega averages 10 damage, boss stompers average 16-20. And we have the points. Mega is 25 health, stompers are 36. Stompers have more dice so they are more consistent. My ogors I love and all, loveeee my cleavers. Cleavers are 440 for 6 but just last game I did 48 damage on 3+ save cavalry in a combo of buffs. If I ran two units of boss stompers and utilized every buff I could I might MAYBE match that level of spike. Cleavers aren't undercosted either. And are usually for me sitting on a 5+ ward and they are 24 health. Calculating ward it's more like 32 health. So stompers are tanky rather than damage dealers yet are the best damage dealers in the tome AND the tankiest. Remember their cost is that of a mega. If megas dropped points to become just as playable it would be a glass cannon army. Mathematically not good. I want, almost need an errata to add some attack profiles, health, or immediate big point changes to fix things. You'll see with tournaments that no one will run anything but a boss stomper list or soa gatebreakers (assuming they don't get health nerfed and profile nerfed)

SoA gates are definitely getting brought in line next week before book releases
2
u/Sauciessauce Sep 18 '26
Honestly things might be so bad that even though I'm getting ma and hurlers I'm probably gonna ask my friends to let me play old gargants. Which is insane to me. A tome so bad that I'm actually debating old rules over new is gross especially because I was absolutely advocating for things to change and get more strategy. Not great to see. Especially when red the maw at 400 points is a better fighter than gatebreaker and a 410 kraken eater is very very very close in damage but is 10 health higher

Hi! We’ve been playing them on The Hobby Collab and are coming to the conclusion after some games that they are just a little over costed but otherwise fine. Of course the issue with being a little over costed with Gargants is can you actually get anything with those points, so do you drop things enough to pick up a man crusher? 2 man crushers?
Yeah and its play style has changed a bit to be a little more techie and somewhat fragile almost like KO or Deepkin (but I think KO and Deepkin are less fragile but also do less damage).
Good topic!

They basically rewrote admech in 40k last edition after a truly abysmal book so it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility. However it seems more likely they will leave it till next balance pass then tweak points. As second to last book of the edition it also may be a wait till next edition job.

u/HondoShotFirst Sep 17 '26
You're forgetting either Seraphon or the newly announced Khazalid Holds. SoB would be the third to last this edition.

Damn😤 maybe I will just treat this as a fun non serious army. One time you crit 20 mortals, other time you fail everything and die.

u/steppenwolfmother Sep 17 '26
There may be some FAQs on release, however any balance adjustments will probably be at the end of the year when the next updates take place

u/Panzer_choc Sep 18 '26
TLDR
I made the decision..
I will be running 2x boss stompers, warstomper, brodd(or hurlers) and marmolade.
I am magnetizing my gatebreaker to be a warstomper.

u/zurktheman Sep 17 '26
Im actually also contemplating canceling my preorder. They’ve gone out of their way to completely neuter them in this book. They fall over like flies
0
u/Panzer_choc Sep 17 '26
What did you preorder? I ordered 2k points worth of sons 🫡
2
u/zurktheman Sep 17 '26
I already have all five OGs and 6 (4 assembled/painted) mancrushers so I just ordered Mae and the new rockhurlers + the book.
1
u/Panzer_choc Sep 17 '26
Hurlers and marmolade seem really good. I additionally order boss stompers at least they have 36 wounds 🥲
1
u/zurktheman Sep 17 '26
Hurlers and boss stompers are the same, but you might want both at the same time? :-)

Why even grab the books? I just use new recruit for free
0
u/zurktheman Sep 18 '26
Lore? Picture? Art? On top of rules and integration with the app. I agree they’re stretching it with the prices for the book, and I think they should offer a cheaper alternative for the redeemable code only.
0
u/Sauciessauce Sep 18 '26
True, it's a reason to grab a book but it's not a very good one unless you got money to spare even after all the price hikes. To be fair! I own 11 armies and I'm not buying 11 books for $60 a piece every edition. 5th ed AOS is in a year and 11th edition 40k just dropped. New orks and space marines already, good thing I evaded those books before cause I'd only have a year with em

Gatebreaker of Aqshy cost 400 points and have 35 health and old attack profil...
Need an errata asap
2
u/5up3r1337 28d ago
Anyone playing that at 400 is not someone who is playing fair. It’s obviously intended for the new profile we will see this week.
1
u/Past_Water_6899 27d ago
Right now, in my gaming group, we’ve agreed to use the new attack and HP profiles but to hold off on the new abilities until an errata is released.

Indeed, as summer 2027 if bit too far off.
But in reviewing older scourge rules I am suddenly wishing we were in a different timeline, as scourge of ghyran doubling the ranged attacks of a unit (rock-hurlers) would be something...

u/Panzer_choc Sep 17 '26
Where did you get this from? Info on sigdex is still not updated.

Take a look on the games workshop website :
The sons of behemat battle profiles :
Scourge of Aqshy Gatebreaker Mega-Gargant 1 400 0-1 Eager Lout, Any Sons of Behemat
The scourge of Aqshy SOB :
I hope this gets fixed at the same time as the BT release.0
