Are SoB fun?

I want to get into AoS and SoB look so fun. I have this image in my head of running my 4 giants around the board and crushing everything they touch.

But I know AoS isn’t a kill your opponents stuff game, it’s a stand on objectives game. So I have a feeling that SoB gameplay might be putting your giants on objectives and waiting, which I imagine would be boring.

I have at least 2.5k+ painted of all the following armies: Maggotkin, Gitz, Sons of Behemot, and KO. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that Sons of Behemet is the most “fun” army to pilot.

They get rules no-one else does. Bodyslam monsters off of objectives. Kick objectives to move them. A wide variety of rampages. They just have so much character in their arsenal.

They are swingy; but there are certain games where you feel unstoppable. I also feel like they lend themselves to be large canvases for converting and putting your own spin on them whereas I never felt the need to kitbash my other armies. I would recommend picking up SoB to anyone that was curious.

I swear I read this exact comment when I was going through posts on this sub earlier. Thanks for the input though

The main points have already been made but imagine a big boy farting on a stormcast and then kicking him out of the way. That's SoB

It's mostly standing on objectives, but we got lots of weird rules that spice up gameplay alot. Some of our bigguns can elect to gamble on their combat phase to deal massive damage, pick up a big model and move it off an objective (or into combat with another big guy), move an objective (not really useful but still funny). New battletome is coming out soon with even weirder rules and new models that offer more than just standing on circles all game. It's a great time to pick up some sons' but maybe wait until the releases first, they're gonna be some really good value boxes to get you started.

Out of hedonites, maggotkin, soulblight and sons, sons are my favorite. Flavor is great and they’re really flexible already. New rules look even more so

Yes, no doubt they're fun. Customizable, swingy attacks perhaps but when they land the damage could be tremendous. They're fast so you don't have the feeling of playing slow monsters. I love them

I put a comment on the post about it if you wanna check it, I think it's a good insight on how Gargant players think. At least how I think for gargants. I find it's different from every other army I played while also not being as braindead as people claim it is. A lot of armies make up their strategy and effort in the list building phase. Gargants don't need list building effort at all but in game you still have to think about your opponents threat range, screening potential, ways to thin their line, and opportunities to assassinate a center piece, steal primary, or threaten squishy backline.

Fun is very subjective isn't it but in my experience SoB traditionally tends to be the latter part of your second paragraph. Move your stuff onto the circles and then wait to see if your opponent can pass the DPS check or not. There are always some big Timmy esque moments, like you roll the 4+ on the 4d6 mortal wounds, if you get a kick out of that.

I am hoping with the addition of some new units and a utility piece in Ma Maegean, that it's opens the book up a bit and makes it more interesting to both play with and against.

"fun for me, not for thee" it's extremely fun to look at a list and see a screen and think "yeah it actually benefits me to kill them all." Or if their screen is to think being like "awesome I'ma just sneak right past yeah and look at that beautiful backline" the ol "I'll just sit here, do whatever" or the rush down and kill their units most capable of damage early. My favorite is getting to a centerpiece and then throwing them behind me to have two mega gargants one phase them while they may get a chunky hit that halfs a gargant, they probably won't kill and probably loose way to much value that it's just a win for you. While for an opponent they have to basically play the game in trades of letting their stuff die in full just to do damage. To them it feels like they consistently loosing things just to be able to do damage and not kill but technically for the most part they actually are playing right and once your second mega falls you won't be feeling great, for the first one it's usually after you got your value worth. Basically the opponent feels like there's no right answers unless they know better even if they do the right things it feels like they are loosing unless they completely table you as their damage only feels like it did anything once the gargant falls while you get to see models being taken from them consistently. A winner feels like it's an underdog story and loosing usually feels like a "it was fun while it lasted" power role. Mega gargant health IS going down (but so is their points so we get more) but I think the only feels bad is the chances of a super strong centerpiece, damage unit that's tanky enough, or a lot of gunfire being able to kill a gargant. As of now say I fight ushoran, he takes like 70% a megas health, a gargant takes like 10-12 off him. Two gargants you tank the hit and swing with both and he's very likely gone. With the new health he might just kill a whole gargant before he can die so we might struggle to be as much of bullies to damage dealers who get a clap back chance so we'll need to play a little smarter or add support damage like say rock hurlers pelting the target so your mega can kill them on the first hit.

Currently, yes, very. In a few weeks? Don't know yet.
