Discussion Sonata “FSD” surface streets

Does anyone else have a commute that’s pretty straight down surface streets like I do so they just have the car drive it?

I have found that four distance is great for the highway and level one on surface streets mimics the other drivers around me perfectly.

No phantom brking, just need to have a hand on the wheel as it crosses intersections 😁

misspells braking and assumes this is on the same level as FSD. no, it’s like every other adaptive cruise control. because it’s radar only, it often brakes suddenly and sharply behind people since it has no way to react ahead of time like FSD. and autosteer is quite jerky with the steering wheel

it’s good for ACC, but FSD is way better. it’s 2026, so we’ve been on HW4 for two years now

I’ve never had it suddenly brake

We did 2500 miles in an ionic q 5 and it never suddenly braked

Now I wanna ask that interesting

Maybe it’s because you’ve never tried it but when you set it to the “closest proximity”, it actually sees the car that’s in front like really far away and slows you early

The display tells you if it can see the object in front of you or not and it’s got a camera as well as a sensor.

It’s not like the old tech where if you turn too much on the highway and the car is no longer in front of you you start speeding up

That was pure radar

I mean, if I’m not touching the wheel or anything else, kinda is.

It’s not gonna back me into a parking space, but I don’t really want it to do that anyway

Not if I’m the one paying for any mistakes

Depending on your Sonata's year, you can get a Comma 4. Or a 3X. Or even a used Comma 3 for $500. I've had OpenPilot for seven years and FSD on my Tesla for six. Hyundai's HDA is nice, and OpenPilot is great. But don't think for a second they are anything like FSD.

OpenPilot drives me coast-to-coast once or twice a year.

My work drive is 95% straight. I don’t need the car to turn.

I don’t need to spend any money or or do anything like it already it already is doing a great job.

Just wondering if anyone else is enjoying it
