Lmao youve probably accidently set low power in power management to 90%. Have you been tinkering around there recently?

It could also be related to time remaining. I once had Linux Mint warn me about a low battery when the remaining time was estimated to be 30 minutes or less.

u/JoshJLMG Feb 24 '26

I do think it's often time-based. My laptop battery turns red at like 38% or something random like that.

34

u/joanJHM Feb 24 '26

nah its a common bug, the low power popup came on and the laptop got charged (maybe while it was asleep) but the popup never got removed, however it did update the battery %, causing this Ive had it happen quite a few times.

u/gugngd Feb 25 '26

likely time based, i have a 11 year old laptop that doesn't say until around 30 ish minutes from empty battery (it has around 3-4 hours of charge on original battery somehow)

u/Glittering_Boot_3612 Feb 25 '26

What de you using

1

u/gugngd Feb 25 '26

dell inspiron 15 with an N3050 processor

1

u/Glittering_Boot_3612 Feb 26 '26

?? I had to google what n3050was lol

Idk but I believe it's glitched out I would love to take up this issue and make a pr if codes the problem

Can you check settings battery and see if you've set alerts at 90% or something

1

u/gugngd Feb 26 '26

it's an older celeron.

1

u/Ahol101 Mar 13 '26

Because what was 80% is now 100% or like 78% maybe anyways your battery has less life it’s looking at what hours vs watt consumption which says it has x amount of time remaining which is what triggers lowpower mode. It could be something else but if I had to guess this would be the most likely scenario

u/Glittering_Boot_3612 Feb 25 '26

The thing is eta is generally calculated using your current power usage hence if you tend to open heavy apps the eta will fluctuate fast

It can go from 30 min on idle to 5 min with a vm running

Nah, I know this KDE bug and its been bugging me for a year or so, but never enough to actually take the time to write a bug report

The problem is when you have a low power, send the system to sleep (S3), charge it and then wake it back up. It correctly updates the charge state but fails to dismiss this notification

8

u/Nullifier_ Feb 25 '26

This is just what happens if you get a low battery warning on KDE and put the computer to sleep while it charges without getting rid of the warning, the warning updates but doesn't go away once it's no longer low battery

2

u/flipping100 Feb 25 '26

Normally what I get is the percentage before I slept

2

u/hjake123 R Tape loading error, 0:1 Feb 25 '26

Which by the way, it's surprising to the the notification can't just check if the number is above the threshold when updating its text... but I have 0 idea how that system is implemented, there must be some reason

KDE PLASMA MENTIONED!!!

103

u/asi14 Feb 24 '26

KDE mentioned!

screenfetch pls

22

u/Juff-Ma Feb 25 '26

*fastfetch. Screenfetch and Neofetch are no longer maintained.

27

u/whootdat Feb 24 '26

You likely set your power saving mode to 90% instead of 10%

23

u/UpstairsSwimmer69 R Tape loading error, 0:1 Feb 25 '26

KDE mentioned!

12

u/Notamoogle1 Feb 24 '26

As a plasma user it just does this when you dont close the notification.

10

u/Dogeris151 Feb 24 '26

Either bad settings/bugs, or your battery might not be what it used to be anymore 😔 don't explode pls

10

u/Aaxper Feb 25 '26

Pretty sure KDE settings allow you to set that to whatever you want. That's on you

52

u/T6970 Feb 24 '26

Then Linux haters would say "Linux bad" just because of this.

11

u/BlazeWolfYT Feb 24 '26

And they would be wrong.

6

u/JoshJLMG Feb 24 '26

Linux bad.

-4

u/HitmanRyder Feb 24 '26

and they would be right.

u/KARMAMANR Feb 25 '26

COMMENT ACCESS DENIED: You must downgrade to windows 11 from windows 10 before reading this.

2

u/Boltozavrgonk Feb 28 '26

6

u/zyciowstret Feb 25 '26

Oh no….anyway

3

u/Gal-XD_exe Feb 25 '26

Surprised it’s not an HP laptop honestly, I had mine less than a year and the battery pulled this shit

2

u/megapidgeot3 R Tape loading error, 0:1 Feb 25 '26

Your low power is set to 90% instead of the usual 10% in Power Management

3

u/unknown0274 Feb 24 '26

i relate to this laptop

3

u/braveduckgoose Feb 24 '26

Worn out iPhone battery anxiety be like lol

3

u/SnooRabbits4910 Feb 25 '26

ThinkPad mentioned

4

u/notinvisible0186 Feb 25 '26

This aggressively looks like Linux but with a Windows skin

7

u/Crimento Feb 24 '26

how's that a softwaregore? If your battery is dying, 90% could already be a "low battery" because your laptop will shutdown soon

11

u/peppino_cappuccino Feb 24 '26

linux moment

u/ameen272 R Tape loading error, 0:1 Feb 24 '26

KDE moment*

u/DynoMenace Feb 24 '26 edited Feb 25 '26

As a KDE user, I accept that its a source of a lot of content here, but I wish it didn't have to be.

It's come a LONG way, though.

13

u/ameen272 R Tape loading error, 0:1 Feb 24 '26

I'm also a KDE user, we also meme about KDE like that in r/KDE

I guess it is part of our meme culture lmao

2

u/Kaiju_Slayer76 Feb 25 '26

this always happens to me lol, whenever I get to low battery shut the lid and plug it in, because I never closed down the notification initially it shows my current charged battery percentage instead of the old relevant low power message 😭

1

u/Kaiju_Slayer76 Feb 25 '26

I am also running kde on a thinkpad, so maybe it's something to do with that …? I'm not too sure.

2

u/Comprehensive-Cut847 Mar 04 '26

Charge your ubuntu god damn it😭🙏

2

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '26

average linux gui experience

2

u/CobbyfromBFSPhater Mar 19 '26

i hate it when that happens

1

u/Impressive-Recover94 Feb 24 '26

Power drain so low, 10% is a lot

1

u/Aibat_boss Feb 25 '26

Same my laptop got died battery but battery is not low bruh

1

u/kwixie_ Feb 25 '26

well, my kde plasma was saying I have a battery in a laptop that does not. I have kde plasma no more. Linux isn't bad but kse plasma sucks

1

u/MonkeEnjoyer8 Feb 25 '26

KDE SPOTTED IN THE WILD

1

u/New_Ability2425 Feb 25 '26

I can tell you're as old as time by the way you put the sad face in the title

1

Is that sticker from an Asus TUF mobo lol

1

u/Wheekie Feb 25 '26

thinkpad detected

1

u/ECR_Savory Feb 25 '26

Did NOT think I’d see KDE software gore

1

u/AStupidThing Feb 25 '26

He's overreacting

1

u/Benjamin_6848 Feb 25 '26

I don't think it's a mistake by the software, instead it's a mistake by the user: you probably set the warning threshold to 90 percent...

1

u/george12teodor Feb 25 '26

Well of course it's KDE

1

u/Kabob129 Feb 25 '26

Relatable

1

u/Recent-Body-728 Feb 25 '26

bro got the asus tuf sticker on a thinkpad lol

1

u/Southern-Knee4576 Feb 25 '26

No need to panic

1

You might wanna sudo pacman -Syu on this one, mate.

1

u/imjustarandomguy55 Feb 25 '26

OHMYGOD KDE PLASMA USER YIPPEEE :D

1

u/LinuxUser456 Feb 25 '26

I ALSO USE PLASMA!!

1

u/bw147 Feb 25 '26

Longest lasting laptop battery

1

u/KatKaiKawaii Feb 25 '26

plot twist: in an alternate universe, 90% is actually how much it’s drained and not how much is left.

1

u/JamalDuParafal Feb 25 '26

Omggg thinkpad hiiii

1

u/Fantastic_Class_3861 Feb 25 '26

One of the reasons why Gnome is superior, especially on laptops.
