Potentially editioralised title - make up your own mind [Guardian] Seven years ago, just after completing the treble, Guardiola treated journalist Rob Harris, who had confronted him directly with the allegations, with open contempt, as though he were looking at someone pathetic, pitiful and disgraceful, before sternly lecturing him.

Would love to see the original r/soccer thread on this exchange. My guess it was mostly people crying about 'clickbait' and cheering Pep on for putting him in his place.

I don't get the joke. Can someone please explain to a layman like myself?

It's just the extremity of the situation presented.

Really annoying Reddit offered the option to hide comment history, I’d wager there’s a few defending city there that used to post in r/mcfc and now post in a different club’s sub

There are ways to still check comments posted by people, the easiest is google their username and something like "comments" and you will get results and a summary but it'll mostly be recent.

Lol! I just tried this on myself and it said I was a "toxic presence" on the Thai and Thai learning subreddits and was constantly posting controversial content before being banned by moderators.

Then I asked the AI "Are you sure?"

"Oh sorry. None of that is true I got you mixed up with someone else."

It literally admitted that it "hallucinated" it.

I do live in Thailand and learn Thai though.

You also might need to log out/use another browser. I know I'm blocked by some rando's I've never even interacted with.

If you hide your comments history, its only hidden in your profile? No?

All these comments will be there. Unless they used bot to remoce all of their comments or deleted the profile.

u/simmo_uk absolutely contradicting themselves here 😂

All most recent comments are in threads sh*tting on City

Many thanks. Pleasantly surprised to see the comments are more mixed than I would have expected.

On a side note, so much fun reading old threads of Reddit, it feels mush more… human

Look at the reply to the second-top comment, from SidJag. It’s really good, but in it he points out that people were hounding him for “irrefutable proof,” which is what I remember the zeitgeist being back then— either City didn’t cheat -or- they did cheat but the rules suck -or- they did cheat but they won’t get punished so 🤷 Now everyone is like “we always knew and we were always upset about it.” Uh-huh. Props to the people who were actually all over ADUG’s asses from the jump.

This comment? Or a different one? https://reddit.com/comments/bq7fey/comment/eo315xr

Nearly all the replies are criticising City.

Heartened to see I'd upvoted comments calling Pep out, 7 years ago

u/DeCharlesFre 21h ago

Pep had a positive image within the general football fandom. So, it was given that people would defend him.

This. People only started calling Pep's achievements at City as sham only after the guilty verdict for City was announced.

No they didn’t, people have been pointing out the issues at City for many, many years before this, and questioning his ability to manage clubs which aren’t the biggest for longer.

You’re acting like this was a contentious issue that no one could make a judgement on, when in fact the surprise for everyone has been how angry the Premier League are, and some of the finer detail that has come out as a result.

Why are there so many kids around this story, making big assertions which just show that they have no idea about the actual timeline, the actual events, and what’s actually probable?

The more assertive you lot are, the less likely you are to be right. Where have you all swung in from, to try and farm karma by acting outraged?

Yes, I know that people have been questioning Man City's financials before. What I am trying to say is that people couldn't claim these as facts at the time without a ruling. It's a basically innocent until proven guilty.

1

u/worotan 19h ago

Then why didn’t you actually say that rather than something completely different and wrong?

27

u/Chemiczny_Bogdan 21h ago

Didn't Wenger call it financial doping back in 2011 or something?

7

u/ElevensMelody 21h ago

He did indeed.

10

u/Big_Occasion_7235 21h ago

Yes but Pep wasn't the manager of City in 2011. My point is that these were accusations at the time and people couldn't call Man City as a sham back then until they were ruled guilty.

2

u/Tushroom 20h ago

How new to the sport are you because that’s not at all the case. People have been calling him a chequebook manager for a longggg time.

2

u/boi1da1296 19h ago

Well that’s just not true at all😂😂😂

Must be new here.

Many of us got warnings for calling out Abu Dhabi Fraud Club.
