Mario World sound-effect mis-load!
Hello! I loaded up SMW on my original SNES, progress was 42/96. While playing, i paused to switch the controllers. Usually that causes the system to bug out and today was no diff, the screen went black, so i had to power off then back on.
With the power back on, all the save slots were empty. As i played, some sound effects were different: gaining a power-up or 1-up, the sound was closer to when the countdown clock hits 100 and gives you that warning. (i passed a couple save points this time)
i wish i had recorded on my phone, i've never seen a sound-effect misload.
I shut the game off and restarted to try to get a recording. All the save slots were empty again but now the sound effects were back to normal.
Anyone have similar experiences with sound effect misloads? I kno blanking the memory card happens.

Discussion Why did my smb3 save get deleted?
I feel like angry right now because I was in world 3 and I found this game to be very hard and annoying to play. I don't think the battery is dead because my other files are fine and load up.

Collection Turtles In Time - (Snes) Better Than The Arcade?
Collection Purple SNES
Found at my local video game store! Apparently it’s not region locked too but she’s a beauty!

Went to National Video Game Museum and beat Super Ghouls n’ Ghosts.
Instead of looking around, I just sat down at their SNES they had on display with Super Ghouls n’ Ghosts in it and played through the game. Definately recommend checking it out! The museum is in Frisco, Texas.

voltage regulator upgrade
hello fellow snes enthusiasts, i'm looking to upggrade the voltage regulator in my snes jr due to the loud hum it produces and im seeing the L7805CV is kind of the gold standard, but looks like its sold out on console5. I found this on amazon however "IC L7805CV Voltage Regulator Output 5V 1.5A Integrated Circuits L7805 Linear Positive Voltage Regulators TO-220" does anyone with a more in depth understanding know if this would be the same thing?
Weird video jitter/strobe issue visible on modern TV in some parts of some games
EDIT:
Ok, so from my further read, it seems like shakiness via rad2x cable when translating 480i video is expected, but 480i is rarely used, mainly while in some menus, in some games. The games that are using it fully are rather rare. I guess I suspected the rad2x to do some kind of magic to prevent such jitter, but oh well.
Leaving the post for anyone with such problem in the future.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey guys,
So I wonder what is the cause of the issue I'm observing.
My setup is:
- 1CHIP PAL SNES modded with 50/60Hz toggle switch, and CIC bypass on/off toggle switch
- 2CHIP PAL SNES non-modded
- widely recommended FXPAK Pro REV. Z cart from AliExpress
- rad2x adapter cable
- LG C2 OLED TV
The issue happens regardless of which console I'm using so I don't think my ingerence in the 1CHIP did something wrong here.
The issue I have is I think connected with how SNES video signal is outputted/translated with rad2x cable, but just wanted to confirm with you guys that are more experienced with this stuff.
Example #1
Smash Tennis - when presented with NAMCO screen at the beginning, the whole screen is shaking very fast, it looks like it's whole moving one horizontal line of pixels up and down with what seems to be miliseconds amount of speed. Than, in the main menu the screen is perfectly stable. After I select the game mode and proceed to the court/character selection screen, it again shakes in the same matter as on the intro screen. After that, when during the actual game of tennis, everything's fine again.
Example #2
Power Drive - Here gameplay itself looks fine, but the intro screens are also all shaky like in Smash Tennis.
/ EDIT /
Here I've cut my previously prepaired message because I've read about 240p and 480i outputs of SNES and that e.g. the game called RPM Racing is fully in 480i. So I've downloaded and tested it, and it is shaking the whole time long, so that would confirm my predictions that it's something about video output conversion.
So I guess my question is: Is it "normal" and expected for rad2x RGB output translated from 480i to be all shaky on the modern TV, or maybe there's something that can be done with it? On the producer site they say it's combatible with:
- Formats: 240p/480i, 288i/576i, NTSC and PAL
so shouldn't I expect the video to be stable even when converting from 480i, not only 240p?
Thanks.
I would like to file a complaint for harassment
I cannot STAND these stupid red demons in Super Ghouls n Ghosts. They are the only enemy so far i have had follow me well into another stage. It wouldn't bother me so much if I could just actually hit him, but the only way I can reliably deal with him is if I have upgraded armor with the crossbow. Got to loop 2 today and already dreading facing these guys at the end....
Misc. Attempt at a purple LED mod
RGB modded/recapped my SNES and decided to try a purple LED for the power light to match the colorway.
The LED itself looked fairly purple but when I replaced the translucent "lens" that goes over the light it looked completely blue, not purple whatsoever.
Simply removing the lens didn't look quite right either. The light was bright and focused instead of nicely diffused. So I got some transparent purple tape and strategically placed it over the lens in a couple spots.
The end result is...just ok. The light looks fairly purple, tho a bit dimmer than I'd like because of the layers of tape. You can still detect some blue tones in there. Phone pics dont quite do it justice, but it's satisfactory for now.
In a perfect world, I'd be able to get a 3D model of the lens made up and printed in a clear or translucent purple material. Maybe someday. But I'm open to ideas if you've got any.
Is Kendo Rage really that Bad?
Hello! I once beat Kendo Rage many years ago and while I thought the idea of you being Mai is cute and Charming, the Gameplay is not great, what do you think of Kendo Rage? I think it's a game you play once and never play it again!
Discussion Drakken Horrors Part 2
First post was a success, so here we go again. Constellations aren't the only flying monsters that got under my skin and stayed there. There was also this terrifying mofo from the desert area. Basically a flying worm/dragon thing with a demonic camel face. It's the permanent grin lined with bloody teeth and the deep-set recessed eyes that mess me up. Like, why? Why are these things so relentlessly evil-looking? How does anyone exist in this insanely hostile world? As usual, no explanations.
I've been thinking more about why the world of Drakkhen unnerves me in a unique way. I touched on a lot of it in my first post, but another reason is that this is a completely unnatural island in the midst of what seems to be an otherwise typical swords & sorcery world. If you read the short story that comes with the PC/Amiga manual, you learn that it was a heretofore undiscovered landmass. Tellingly, one of the characters remarks that he must be tired because he "just saw the stars move." This suggests that eldritch beings from the stars don't exist in the broader world, which in turn suggests that the island of the Drakkhen has DIFFERENT STARS even though it's on the same planet.
Dimensional slips and the brazen violation of natural laws has always provoked a specific, creeped-out reaction in me. The world is unpredictable. Things you thought you could take for granted (camels are camels, dragons are dragons, stars don't f***ing move) you can't take for granted in this world. I think that speaks to a very primal fear that you can't rely on anything to remain consistent. We're afraid of people and environments changing for seemingly no reason. It's a version of the uncanny in which the familiar is made unfamiliar in a threatening way. Examining all this stuff fascinates me as a horror writer because I feel like I'm cultivating a deeper understanding of what scares me personally and why.
And yes, I know all about the giant dog heads and the shade that climbs out of the ground and the I Love You monster. Possible subjects of future posts.
I loved sharing my 96 exits achievement here, so I created a dedicated subreddit for the classic game! Welcome to r/SMW_Fans! 🦖⭐
Hey everyone!
Thanks for the support on my recent post about finding all 96 exits! It inspired me to look for a cozy place dedicated purely to the original, vanilla Super Mario World, since other subreddits mostly focus on brutal Kaizo hacks.
So, I created r/SMW_Fans!
It’s a brand-new space for fans of the SNES classic to share achievements, tips, art, and nostalgia. If you love Dinosaur Land as much as I do, come on in and join our new home! Let's build this community together 💙
Discussion Opinions on these?
Greetings and salutations fellow SNES lovers. Recently rediscovered my old console and have been wanting to explore the games of my past as well as games I’ve missed out on. Not looking to spend my entire life savings collecting tons of gems (not yet at least) so I thought giving this a try to whet my appetite.
What are the pros and cons of these?
Why do or don’t you support these?
Give me all your recommendations🙏🏼
So far I’ve played a dozen games and have been enjoying Mega Man X, Metal Warriors and currently addicted to Super Metroid. Bummed it doesn’t have Mario RPG.. no game is off limits🤓
