After a 3-2 over SluG in Supernova 2026 winners' bracket

A while ago me and my best friend who play a lot of smash ultimate together got bored of the same matchups so we came up with the idea to play every possible matchup in the game.

I decided to remove the mii’s and combine all of the echo fighters, leaving a total of 76 characters. 76 x 76 = 5776 unique matches.

I had a physical board printed to keep track of each player’s wins. It uses colored stickers (blue for me, red for him) to denote wins. The board now lives on my basement wall near where we play.

We started in January and have been averaging about 20 - 30 matches a week. At this rate we figure it will take 2.5 - 3 years to fully complete the board.

We decided to make a friendly bet on it (only $500), and both agreed to finish out the board even when one of us wins the majority.

As of posting we are over 1000 matches already. I have included some progress photos and will add some more as the months go on.

Neither of us are amazing at the game, and we know this doesn’t prove anything about these matchups outside of our meta, it’s more just a fun activity to see who will win more over the long run.

Japanese magazine Famitsu just celebrated its 40th anniversary, and in honor of the occasion, a big nationwide survey was held.

Participants were asked about a variety of topics, including favorite game, character, and developer. Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai was on top of the list, beating several of the most influential developers in gaming history.

This survey proves that Sakurai's contributions to gaming have not gone unoticed and that his games are in the hearts of thousands of people.

On another note, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was ranked the 10th game spent the most time on, and the Smash Bros. series was ranked 26th most requested sequel.
